I've been toying with the idea of going since I haven't been to a World's since 2004. It almost holds a nostalgia for me that would evaporate almost immediately upon seeing the tournament room and meeting some of the "friendly" foosers from days gone by. I'd have to check with school to see if it is practical to attend given the classes I would be missing.

SO what is teh ITSF team event?

I'll go if I finish getting myself fired by then. Why didn't they move the Worlds back to the beginning of the month?? They say they want to attract a youth movement and then they run "all" the major tournaments (wow...."ALL" of them) during the school year.

Author: Kent Reply #10 Posted: Jul 7 2007 2:29PM

Thinking about going. Just trying to decide between Vegas and my highschool reunion. Practicing like I am going though. Will decide before the end of July.

High school reunions are pretty crappy. I went to one of mine. Other than telling the born again peacenik that I was designing tracking systems for U.S. cruise missiles (and watching the utter disgust form on his face), there wasn't much fun to be had.

Author: foosghost Reply #12 Posted: Jul 7 2007 8:47PM

the itsf team event is the same format as the world cup, except only on one table.

so its 6 of our men 2 of our women agaisnt the world - you play a mixture of doubles and singles events, tally up the total game wins, and see if you have a winner.

Author: foosghost Reply #13 Posted: Jul 7 2007 9:06PM

just got this email from the ITSF concerning dress code at the ITSF team event:

Hello to all

If you attended the Tecball World Championship Series event in Borgloon, Belgium a few weeks ago, you will have noticed that the dress code, as explained in details in the international Rules Book, was not respected by players.

We would like to remind all players that they must wear proper sporting attire when competing in ITSF events.

Acceptable sporting attire consists of warm-up jackets and pants, athletic shirts, sport tee shirts, polo shirts, athletic shorts, and athletic shoes.
Prohibited attire includes: clothing displaying profanity, tank tops, denim or jeans of any kind, as well as cargo pants, cargo shorts, form-fitting Spandex or Lycra pants and shorts. Flip-flops, sandals and non-athletic shoes are also prohibited.

An ITSF delegate will attend the upcoming Roberto Sport and Garlando World Championship Series events.
Among other tasks, Mr Klaus Gottesleben will be in charge of making sure that the dress code is not being infringed by players.

Also please remember that for the National Teams Competition:

- Each team member must wear a “national” shirt
- A jogging suit (top and bottom) is also required of all players
- The name of the country must be clearly displayed on the players’ shirts and jogging suit; players can also add their names and country’s flag on their shirts and jogging suits, if they wish

A jogging suit? They think this is athletics?
Close your eyes (not now you idiots, you won't be able to read the rest of my post).
With your eyes closed, imagine Terry Moore ... in a jogging suit.
OK, you can open your eyes - life will be much harder if you don't.

On a less serious note, the list of attire would imply that the team must be decided in advance so the appropriate sizes, shapes and colours of jogging suits (sorry, had to stop to chuckle) can be acquired.

Surely Costco must have some cheap and sleazy Canada track suits - then we can have some local graffiti artist spray paint names onto the outfits - as long as Eric doesn't mind being called: #^1*

There is a place close to my work that they sell soccer shirts i think i might be able to get Canadian logos on them as well. There fairly cheep too because it is the end of soccer season. If you would like me to take a look and find out that wouldnt be a problem.
Does the jogging suit have to match each others or just the shirts.

How many teams can represent there country at worlds?

Olavo is coming to worlds.

moya its the same as with the world cup. i think you can do the same type of thing you did before.

there is only one team that can represent their country at worlds.

that team consists of 6 men and 2 women

that team must have matching tracksuits
that team must have matching shirts
the men do not have to match the women
the tracksuits and shirts must say Canada on them

Author: S. Edwards Reply #19 Posted: Jul 9 2007 9:11PM

How does TSAC decide who gets to play on the team? Personally I would love to play on a team with Eric, Mario and Moya and that represents Canada. I would be willing to buy my own track suit. I think velour might be nice..

Author: foosghost Reply #20 Posted: Jul 9 2007 9:49PM

Simon, where have you been??

you either have to be one of the best foosball players in Canada or be good friends with someone on the executive B-)

JUST JOKING!!!

The current thinking is this. Those that know they are going to Worlds enter in a regional qualifer - 1 west, 1 central, 1 east

either
top 2 from each qualifier are on the team
or
top X players from each qualifier get to compete for spots on the team while at worlds.

Taha has also mentioned the possibility of having a captain again, and then having the captain pick the team (from those that are already going to worlds)

We've been discussing ideas around this, but i beleive the selection process is ultimatley up to the tournament commitee - i dont have access to our constitution at this time (i'm in australia on business) - maybe someone else can clarify.

>moya its the same as with the world cup. i think you can do the same type of thing you did before.

You sayin we have to buy all new shit for this thing?? UghAAAAA...soooo not going through that again.

- A jogging suit (top and bottom) is also required of all players

I will soooo not ever get my ass into any jogging suit...sorey!!!

"Prohibited attire includes: clothing displaying profanity, tank tops, denim or jeans of any kind, as well as cargo pants, cargo shorts, form-fitting Spandex or Lycra pants and shorts. Flip-flops, sandals and non-athletic shoes are also prohibited."

All our shirts except for one were tanks..unless they are refering to like spaghetti straps type ones..and all the pants were "form-fitting spandex or lycra." I swear I'm SOO wearing a skirt..doesn't say I can't.

Man oh man oh man...they don't make this easy do they??

Thanks Eric, Qualifiers sound good. Captains picking sounds bad. Let me know either way. For some strange reason I seem to be motivated for this.

Author: Aged Whine & Cheese Reply #23 Posted: Jul 10 2007 1:46AM

Given the past events that divided this country's foos community, I'm surprised anyone even suggested having a captain. That would be another nightmare.

However, given the limited time we have before the worlds, qualifiers seem like a pretty weak idea too and are not likely to field the best team although would field a geographically balanced team.

I think the key issue, before this discussion goes any further is that TWO women are required. So far only Moya seems to be considering attending. If there are not two women, is picking a team a moot issue?

If that issue can be addressed, then we should worry about how to pick a team from those who are going to Vegas.

Tim

In some other thread, someone mentioned that both audrey and julie from quebec are going to worlds. so we have enough women.

we even have enough women to kick out certain women who wont adhere to the dress code - B-P

These players have said that they are going.

Moya Tielens
Eric Dunn
Mario Ariganello
Simon Edwards
Tony Tong
Jeffrey Allen
Olavo Taveres
Kane Gabriel

These are maybe's

Matt
Kent Farries
Tim Dudra
Brian Loeppky
Taha
Gerry Meister
Audrey
Julie
Darrel P

Is that all the players going to world im surprised 4 thousand for semi doubles isnt there a lot of good semi's out West.

Thats to bad that we cant have 2 teams representing Canada cause that would be 2 very good teams

If there is going to be a vote for who is captain my vote goes to Moya Tielens. She knows the players out east and out west better than anyone and she has a will to win and a will to do her best to make the best team possible. I will stand by her choices. Although this isnt the best solution but might be the only solution.

I dont think Moya is going to want to do it. I sure as hell dont want to.

In a perfect world people dont judge. This sure isnt a perfect world.

So when would the qualifier be held? Any thoughts or ideas on dates and locations?

You mention 3 positions open for qualifying? Just curious, who would be the main 4 guys. I am assuming 1 position for the women would be open and 2 for the men.

So many questions.....

Anyhow should be fun and that 4K is nice prize for Semi.

Kent

Author: foosghost Reply #28 Posted: Jul 12 2007 9:59PM

I didnt say there were 3 positions open
i said, "top X players from each qualifier get to compete for spots on the team while at worlds."

there will likely be three qualifiers, but i was not going to guess at how many from each qualifier would get on the team.

no one is on the team yet.

Author: foosghost Reply #29 Posted: Jul 12 2007 10:04PM

as for when this all is going to happen, well i guess we first have to decide that this is the way this should happen, and we've told the itsf that we would know by the 27th of july how our national champions will be crowned.. but that has nothing to do with this so..

as for the when we have to name our national team for worlds we're really bound to how long it would take to get the necessary team wear. we'd just need enough leway to determine sizes. we dont have to have names on them or anything.. just has to say canada on shirts and jackets

so far i know of two locations that have said they can do it (victoria and ottawa). it would be nice is somewhere central said they could hold such a thing.

Author: S. Edwards Reply #30 Posted: Jul 13 2007 10:06AM

I'm sure this could be held in any city with more than 1 foosball table. Maybe the city with the most players going to the worlds should have the qualifier. Calgary seems to be the most logical place to me for a western qualifier followed by Vancouver.

Edmonton could host this, however with only one player wanting to go, this doesn't make much sense.

Author: greg Reply #31 Posted: Jul 14 2007 2:20AM

Sure it makes sence to host it in Edmonton because any foosball tournaments are good to promote foos in the city, and Edmonton needs something to get people intrested agian. I don't even know what this is all about but if there was a tourny here I might come out and play and so might some other players and that would be good (and if I won I might go to worlds). But I wouldn't play if it was too expencive, like 100 bucks to pay for somebodies trip to Italy, I'm not really into that but if somebody else wants to get that kind of thing going then power to them, I'll come and watch and encourage them.

Author: Viper Reply #32 Posted: Jul 14 2007 4:43AM

Does this team have to be picked before you get there?
Is there a second woman going?

Beacause if it doesnt have to be picked before you get there just hold a tournament at the event singles either single or double elimination, top 6 are in, right now there are only 7 confirmed and 7 maybes, it wont even be a full tournament your only playing till theres 6 people left, i dont even know where everyone is from, but what it sounds like you want to do is hold one east for 3 people and one west for 3 people, which hardly seems fair to the west seeing as how 10-11 people from the west are going im not sure where Taha is from, and 3-4 from the east

I cant speak for Eric Jeff Tim or Gerry, but if i were them i wouldnt be buying a 300$ plane ticket or 20 hours of driving just for a qualifier.

Your all going to be in vegas it wont take that many matches to dwindle down to 6

I have passport, money... now all I need is a little skill and luck and I'm all set!

p.s. Can anyone try out for Team Canada for the ITSF?... because I would be all over that!

Author: Cyborg Reply #34 Posted: Jul 16 2007 10:27AM

Here's an idea:

- executive picks the model of tracksuit and shirts and from a nation-wide store - or how to order from a specific store
- we hold the qualifier at the World's
- the entrance fee into the qualifier is the above clothing

Benefits:
- this will be cheaper than trying to hold qualifiers, for both TSAC and individuals
- anyone who doesn't make it can wear the purchased clothing at World's to adhere to the dress code
- the players playing at the top of their game make it, regardless of where in Canada they reside (no preset East and West quota's)
- anyone who has a conflict for the to be late scheduled qualifiers, won't have a decision to make
- we can easily incorporate spares into the team in case of injury
- we don't have to worry about last minute cancellations of any qualifier selected team members

Cons
- I'll let others come up with cons

Author: tony Reply #35 Posted: Jul 16 2007 1:32PM

Well put Darrel,

I'll add a few comments.

- Hold the qualifiers at Worlds. Have everyone entering pay a fee to play. When's the last time any of you played a foosball tourney and didn't pay an entry fee? A qualifier's just the same.

Round robin, everyone plays everyone. If you had to travel to a regional what better way to assess your game than at Worlds where most of the best players in the country will likely be this year anyways? Thanks CORONA! Forget about nitpicking about airfares and such because if ya are, forget about Italy.. it ain't cheap.

- East vs West. For now, this doesn't really matter does it? Shouldn't we send the best players who've been playing to represent the country? I for one don't care if there are 30 players from the East going to try to qualify for worlds, i'd have my own challenges to overcome.
As long as we're sending the best players playing and putting in the time and effort i think that's all we can ask for. Besides, most of us know who we can and can't beat.. and for those who haven't played each other... well...travel a bit more.

- funding for trips to Italy. It's hard to concentrate on practicing to play your best and represent your country on a world stage when you have financial concerns. if you're a successful winning player, what's wrong with asking your local club to throw in some sponsorship money for your trip?
Raise some funds, don't expect anything. I know that if one of my friends who i play with week in week out were to qualify on top that i would have no qualms helping with his trip expenses via some fund raising. this way we don't get into any conflicts with TSAC and representation geographically, etc.

Author: foosghost Reply #36 Posted: Jul 17 2007 6:39AM

Darrel, that is the most awesomest idea i have ever heard of. man you are so smart its scary. I love it. It solves so many problems - track suits, entry - qualifiers.

The one problem i can see with this is some people dont follow instructions very well, and might go out and buy (or be talked into by some sales person) the wrong shirt, or wrong track suit. They show up, thinking what they have is good enough, and we would have to turn them away.

I'll do some sniffing around and see if there are some online sites that we can order from, so its very hard to mess that up.

How much are these Uniforms going to cost us?

Taha, as the chair of the TSAC ITSF Committee (comprised of Taha Taha, Brien Loeppky, and Pierre-Oliver Garon) i think its time for the committee to offically come up with some options.

According to our constitutions, its up to the ITSF committee, to provide a list of options to the president (me), where if there are more than 2, then the president narrows it down to 2. Then I submit the 2 options to the executive for vote.

So we need options to determine how our National Team for the Tornado World Championships ITSF Team Event. (much has been discussed in this thread, so i would assume there's lots of ideas for options there).

Plus we need options to determine the competitive process for naming our National Champions - a selection process is not possible this year, as the date to enter national champions via selection process has passed according to the ITSF.

We have to tell the ITSF the date this 'naming national champions' competitive process will come to a close / result by July 27th.

We do not have to tell the ITSF anything about how we named our national team at the tornado world championships.

I've emailed this post to the committee as well - so they'll hopefully get on it right away.

Author: S. Edwards Reply #44 Posted: Jul 23 2007 8:46AM

Cons
- I'll let others come up with cons

You could be potentialy limmiting the number of people that may want to compete for a spot. First they need to by a track suit and then an airline ticket to Las Vegas and Hotel. For some, the deciding factor whether they would go to the worlds would be if they made the team. This could be viewed as unfair by some.

Author: foosghost Reply #45 Posted: Jul 23 2007 8:10PM

Mario Asked:
Q: are we going to have a qualifier in Vegas?
A: most likely, but that's up to the ITSF committee, and then the exec to vote in that option.

Q: Are we puchasing our attire before going to worlds?
A: Its currently looking that way - I might have a lead here in Victoria that has alot of left over Canada gear from the Under-20 World Cup - nice gear - buy 1 get 2nd 1/5 off, sport-check

Q: How much are these Uniforms going to cost us?
A: so far shirt we have 2 options:
polo: http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do/style?menuId=263905&styleId=34829
will be about $30 each
or
nice addidas soccer type jersey:
http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do/style?menuId=263905&styleId=34834
will be about $35 each
or
t-shirt: http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do/style?menuId=263905&styleId=34850
for $25 each

track suit top:
http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do/style?menuId=263905&styleId=34822
$55

The backs of all of the above have Canada across the back - go to your local sport-check and you can see for your self - but don't buy anything yet - we're sure about this at this point.

- not sure of bottom yet - might have to go with just something black.

Q: Is winning this event is it for Pride/or money?
A: winning team event is for pride as far as i know - i haven't heard of any money prizes. flyer lists a team plaque

Author: foosghost Reply #46 Posted: Jul 23 2007 8:11PM

crap EDIT above. we are NOT sure about this at this point.

Author: No 2,5 or 3 bar Reply #47 Posted: Jul 23 2007 10:40PM

I suggest the world's team should first get a refundable deposit from all those who are willing to pay their own way. Make it $500 so that the committment is sincere. This would thin out the list.

Once the list is narrowed, a provincial playdown should occur ranking the first and second place player in each competing provinces.

Out of the final few standing a simple vote could determine our team.

Author: BriL Reply #48 Posted: Jul 23 2007 11:42PM

Initial thoughts about ITSF team for Vegas
1. The qualifier would take place in Vegas
2. The top ranked Canadian tornado players would be exempt as we are playing solely on tornado tables( Eric, Mario, Moya).
