Topic: EXEC VOTE: Tornado World Championships Team

Author: foosghost Original Message Posted: Jul 31 2007 1:49AM

There seems to be some problem with the Exec only message boards, so i'll have to post here for now.

The ITSF Committee has put forth the following proposol for how TSAC should go about assembling the Canadian team for the ITSF Team event at the Tornado World Championships, Sept 26-30th.

[start proposal]
We are going to place 3 individuals straight onto the team: Moya Tielens, Mario Ariganello and Eric Dunn.

A captain will be named. The captain is Eric Dunn.

The remaining spots will be filled via qualifiers that will take place at the Tornado Worlds before the competition begins.

The captain will be in charge of running the qualifier. The captain must obtain the names of all Canadians at the championships who want to represent Canada.

The women's qualifier: There are at most 2 other Canadian women going. If both are interested in playing, there will be a 2/3 qualifying match between them, the winner taking the spot on the team and the loser becoming the spare for the team.

The men's qualifier: Because we feel that it is necessary to have both goalies and forwards, the men's qualifier will be a doubles event. We suggest that if there are 5 teams or less wishing to qualify, that a round-robin be run with each match being 1 game to 7 points (because of time constraints). If there are 6 or more teams it can be a double-elimination event. The top 2 teams will earn spots on the team. The 3rd place team will be the spare.

This will fill the tale of 6 men and 2 women for the team.

Re: Uniforms. The Captain or the ITSF committee can select uniforms for the team from a suitable vendor (one whose products can be found both online and/or in all major cities) and those wishing to qualify will need to buy their uniforms before going to the championship.

We feel that even if they dont qualify, they can strut around looking Canadian.
[end proposal]

Exec - please vote now as to whether we should accept this proposal for how we are to assemble Canada's team.

Email your NO votes to me, all other votes will be considered YES votes.

You have until Thursday, Aug 2, 2007 at 11:59 PM to submit your votes.

ok, the votes are in and we have
2 NO votes taha (ottawa) and brian (calgary)
2 YES votes - mike (saskatoon) and sean (toronto)
and 3 people that have not responded - paul (regina), p.o. (quebec - bonzini), and regis (quebec - tornado)

I am at a cross roads as to how to proceed, because i feel the current active exec has felt they have made an error (both those that wrote the proposal voted no).

Although the ITSF committee did post their idea about naming certain players to the team a full week ahead of when the proposal was submitted for voting - it was not until the vote started did the players voice their concern.

We cant just change the rules midstream - we have to follow our constitution or this might lead to setting a bad precedent.

So i think it best we continue as originally planned, and make adjustments now to our constitution so that we can avoid these problems in the future - (posted in another thread)

So according to the rules on how we've laid out this vote to start with - the 3 non-votes are considered YES votes.

So the proposal has passed.

Given that we can now choose to submit a new proposal if we wish.

So Taha, and Brian, if you see fit to do so, can we have another proposal please? Then we'll vote to see if we want the new proposal to replace this one.

Time is of the essence, so if you could have it ready to submit by the end of the weekend that would be great.

as an aside (although it doesnt change anything for this vote), paul G did put in a YES vote (albeit late).

ok Vote #2 - another proposal has been submitted by the ITSF committee:

[start proposal]
A captain will be named. The captain is Eric Dunn.

All spots will be filled via qualifiers that will take place at the Tornado Worlds before the competition begins. There is a $10 fee to enter the qualifiers.

The captain will be in charge of running the qualifier. The captain must obtain the names of all Canadians at the championships who want to represent Canada.

The women's qualifier: There will be a 2/3 round robin singles qualifier. The top 2 women will qualify with the 3rd being used as a reserve.

The top 3 teams will earn spots on the team. One person from the 4th place team can be used as a reserve.

This will fill the total of 6 men and 2 women for the team.

Re: Uniforms. The Captain or the ITSF committee can select uniforms for the team from a suitable vendor (one whose products can be found both online and/or in all major cities) and those wishing to qualify will need to buy their uniforms before going to the championship.

[end proposal]

Ok Exec, VOTE to see if we should use this proposal to replace the old one.

A YES vote says you prefer this option over the old one.

A NO vote says you think the old one should remain.

Everyone must send me your votes by Thursday, Aug 9th, before 11:59 PM.

If you do not vote, your vote will be considered as an abstain.

I can't enforce quorum here, because it is not in our constitution yet.

If there is a tie, i will not be able to break the tie, because i am in a COI. So we'll have to do it all over again.

votes are in, and we have 4 YES votes,
Taha, Brian, Sean, and Mike all voted YES

no one else voted.

So the new proposal stands
