Topic: TSAC BC Representative / Delegate
|
|
Does anyone have any interest in being BC's representative / the president's delegate.
Updates to the TSAC Constitution have just been voted in, and accepted.
One change is that the President (that's me) now gets to name a delegate to represent the region the president was elected under (BC - Tornado).
The President does not vote, so one of the tasks of the delegate would be to vote on TSAC matters - representing BC players interests.
This person should read their email at least every other day, and monitor the TSAC message boards around the same amount.
Those interested or any questions please send me an email (dunneri@shaw.ca), or posts here, and I'll attempt to pick a delegate by the end of the week.

Dunneri,
If nobody else wants the odious job then I'll consider it but I would want to know up front the following:
a) how much time per week would you estimate all this e-mail reading takes? b) what exactly is the role of the delegate? To simply listen to the information put forward by the executive and then, hopefully dispassionately and with a mindset to what is best for the B.C. foos community, vote on those issues in lieu of the president? In other words, are they more akin to a member of a corporate board of directors who is external to the company and only serves to provide external guidance in the form of their vote or are they going to be more of an active part of the governing body, involved in the debate and working towards the group's goals.
If the role would require active participation in the debate and additional duties beyond being simply a vote of reason that eliminates the risk of a conflict of interest for the president, then it likely would be more effort than I think I can put into it now (what with my school workload). If, on the other hand, it is a position whose role is merely to educate themselves on the issues at hand and vote dutifully on behalf of the B.C. foos community (guided only by what they reasonably believe to be the best interests of the B.C. foos community), then I think I could fit the responsibilities into my busy schedule.
To summarize, if duties are: - provide _external_ counsel, - vote in lieu of president, Then I'm willing to do the job if nobody else wants it.
If duties are significantly more than that, count me out - I wouldn't have the time to devote to it.

a) email is mostly used just for notifications that votes or discussions are occuring on the message boards, and that you're supposed to go read them. So the real time is spent reading the message boards - since you're likely doing that already, i wouldnt see that needing too much extra time.
b) the delegate has the same role as every other position on the board. How far you take this is up to you. But what you've said you would be willing to do would be the minimum. The role does not require you to be more active, but we sure would appreciate the help and your insight.

It's just that I already have a ton on my plate. I don't mind observing and expressing the occasional opinion and casting a vote or two for good ideas. I just can't imagine having the time to be overly involved or to generate creative ideas or even be as critical/constructive toward other ideas as I would like to be.
To re-iterate, if nobody else wants this, I can probably do it for a while.
