Topic: Sunday Soho - Seattle results

I will not make the Sunday tournament as Moya just finished playing and on the way home now.
Eric and Moya got second losing to Rick Martin and Dave McSweeny, two old school world championship fianalists (dave came in second twice in '80 and '81 on TS and Dynamo while Rick won Singles on TS in 77 and 2nd on TS in doubles in '80)
Next week then guys

I thought it was Mc Wienie?

Going to that tournament was like a flash back to the eighties. I've never been in a tournament room with so many push kickers and backpinners since i first started playing foos. If i remember correctly there was only one other person shooting a rollover - weird.
Lots of people hitting some nice banks from the 3 and 2 bars.
Tables were pretty cool. balls very easy to grab, yet a bit sticky if attempting pass or shot with ball behind rod at all. I had to do a stick series (like billy pappas) on my 5. roll over worked just fine for me, but holes are a bit smaller due to slightly wider feet on the men.
I've never heard of McSweeny before, but i can see now why everyone was kind of exited that he was coming out. He played like a pro master level goalie in the finals, and ripped all kinds of shots, and blocked real well. He was the reason they won the winner of winners match, and then rick played awesome in the finals as well.
Very cool trophies with a soccer ball that actually spins.

Congrats on the 2nd place finish......not bad at all considering a bunch of the opponents have been [playing on the tables for a while!
...and thanks for the table review....couple questions if you have a minute....
How about the pull-shot ?
I imagine most players did a pin-bank series from the 2 rod? Did anyone use the set brush bank series from Dynamo days? Did Fos, Jason, Jack or Chez play?
******************
don't know how to spell it....but its pronounced Mc-Queeny
Anyway....yes he is a great goalie....he quit foos and apparently became a pretty competitive golfer. He makes the odd re-appearance and I'm sure he would love the new table. Up front he can shoot a smokin pin shot and also a pretty good pull.
Shawn and I played him and Jack Lenty in a key match in Portland once and he ripped two banks in a row (on Tornado?!) that won one game and left Shawn and I a bit shell-shocked. I can't actually remember anything else about the match (or matches) except that somehow Shawn and I ended up winning the tournament.

Here's my post from the foosball board.
Pretty good turnout. Lotsa old time players came out on Friday night for the draw and/or to hang out, so that was kinda cool. Lotsa stories flying around that night for sure.
Tables were pretty good. Super solid. No problems with levelness or anything really.
Ball was a lil sticky and a few were a lil wobbly, but not really an issue overall.
Definitely had to adjust for shooting a pull shot. Sprays or short squares were the shots to shoot. Trying to pull it long and square it off was pretty tough because of the stickyness. Lotsa people were workin the banks, but I think lots also forgot how to shoot them well. :p Definitely more of a kick friendly type table. Not too many pin shooters, but some of those shots were tried too of course. Roll over was fine to shoot, but I think it was a harder shot to score because the foot of the man was a lil bigger and made defense against them a bit stronger. Lots of rebounds coming off the goalies because the ball was bouncier, so timing for loose ball grabs was different.
From what I heard there were going to be some adjustments to the foot of the man. Rounding off the bottom face I think, but don't quote me on that.
Overall a really good table, in my opinion.
Eric Dunn and I came in second to Rick Martin and Dave McWeeny. Two old school players. We lost to them on winners side as well. Dave Hopfinger and Julie (ugh..can't remember her last name) came in third.
Moya
Eric played awesome btw. Thanks for playin with me.

I thought the tables were pretty cool. I've never had my 5 bar work that well before, but also I've never seen my pull kick that weak. My 2 bar also went from sub-par to absolutly non existent.
It was my first time down there and I had a great time. Every single person there was friendly and talkative. The location was great and the music was pretty good (heard stairway to heaven at least 4 times during that weekend). Also I loved the fact that there were more pull kick shooters than rollovers...
Congrats to Moya and Eric... but even more congrats to Allan Cortez for his 1st place finish with Jack Lenty in the dual-dyp. The only first place finish from Vancouver!
Btw Allan, Rich said there weren't any trophies for that event just the cash.

ahaaa.......I see wherefrom the confusion arises.....
according to Kevin on ez board ......."Right, he changed his name to McNeiley."
It's all Tim's fault.....he ridiculed Mc WEEnie's name so much that he up and changed it!
(What is it with foosers and name changes. ....I know only 4 people that have changed their names .....and they are all foosers.)

|
i should change my name too!!! any suggestions? how bout robbie roaster?
|
|
How about "mybrandnewlastname" Robbie? It can match your 3 bar scratch that-nothing can match your 3 bar Robbie!

In response to Gerry's post the pull shot was far more efficient on these tables, but its an inside shooters table the goalies go past the net by a lot beacause of one goalie, and square longs are probably raceable with smaller nets and bigger men.
The players with practice on the tables played much more the style of the tables, Im pretty sure Foz didnt play one serious match the entire weekend, worked a back pin bank more than any other shot.
The tables are almost unjarrable, the rods are much lighter and much more flexible, as far as the balls go, very grippy but got scarred easily, by sunday a number of balls had weird rolls. Saw only a couple two bar banks, challenging to shoot from the two bar with the size of the men.
Im not sure what jason your talking about, Jack was there probably with the highest finishes except for open, aand no chez i dont think.
The table had a lot of lines on it and you needed to pay attention to if you set the ball in the wrong spot it would stub every time, It is not a rollover shooter table so you rollover shooters better hope this doesnt takeover for tornado, the holes are very small for rollover shooters unless your gonna learn to cut it back.
Also very few junk goals, controlling balls off the back wall wasnt that much of an adjustment, but it had a weird angle and would always roll toward the goal when it hit the top of the bank. a few goals went in that way

Thanks Craig.....I meant Jason Sherril(sp?) (I think he has moved BAck to Portland area after living in Spokane for a while.) Who did Jack play open with?
"The tables are almost unjarrable..." Wanna bet?
|
|
If the tables are "unjarrable" then I guess Rip didn't play.
|
|
they are extremely stable. during one match on of our opponents was defending like nuts while moya had the ball on the 2 rod. on torando it would of been a reset for sure, but the ball didnt move.
but jars were possible. i got called on one. B-)
|
|
I said almost, rip played but the jarring was down from the usual:P, and Jason Sherrell played with brian williams in open.
and that jar call saved your butts Eric :P
|
|
>and that jar call saved your butts Eric :P
LMAO!!! I'm so glad someone else said it.
