I tried entering the points and sure enough half way through the website crapped out and started spitting those database errors again. I'll send the hosting company support team an email and hopefully be able to put up the full stats for the night tomorrow.

Something weird is going on. I don't know if it's an issue with our hosting where the database is just being a pain, or if the tournament tool doesn't like the fact that we did a 5 player round robin. I'm always able to start entering results, but after the 2nd or 3rd match, it refuses to let me add anymore matches. A few minutes later I start getting website errors and the site just stops working completely. I know it's not something I'm doing wrong since I added a couple tournaments the other week without any problems.
I emailed support last night and they replied. In the single sentence reply he gave me, I came to the conclusion that they're a bunch of chimps. Here's what they said.
"Hi Sir, Your website is working fine now pls check it http://vancouverfoosball.com/"
Very professional with the "pls". I've replied to him saying the issue is obviously not fixed since the site is down again now. Grumble...
Anyways, if someone else wants to give entering the results a go, here are the results.
Tim vs Earl -- Tim wins Mike S vs Jeff A -- Jeff A wins Onur vs Mike S -- Onur wins Jeff A vs Earl -- Jeff wins Onur vs Jeff A -- Onur wins Tim vs Mike S -- Tim wins Onur vs Tim -- Tim wins Mike S vs Earl -- Mike wins Onur vs Earl -- Onur wins Tim vs Jeff A -- Jeff wins
Onur vs Tim -- Onur wins Jeff vs Tim -- Jeff wins Onur vs Jeff -- Jeff wins
$30 for Jeff $15 for Onur

The site is down/still down. The forums are up, but that's about it. I know I had a menagerie of problems when I tried entering results in the past.

I have forgotten my user name and password for entering the tournaments, so I can't do it. You could put them all in individually, since you got 3 done already. Or, just attempt it again since the site seems to be up and running again.

Just tried again and it finally worked. Note that there are 2 blank tournament entries, 1 tournament entry with a single match (me vs steinbach) and then the latest one has all remaining entries. I didn't add the match with me vs steinbach again since that would have calculated the point difference twice.
Everything should be good now though. Jeff feel free to double check and confirm.

Looks good. And, hey, I finally recieved "a point" for beating Onur, instead of the classic 0.
|
|
hehe I noticed that as well. Looks like I won't be losing anything significant to >= Pro until I hit Am.

Hey Sorry I missed Sunday night. I was on the way to foos Sunday knowing that I had to leave early when the snow/traffic turned ugly so I ended up turning around. Looks like Moya is outa town next weekend so I'll have to work on it to be able to go.

Oh also it seems to jme that a data error shouldn't shut down the site. Can't/shouldn't they be seperate entities?
|
|
There should be error checking to prevent the entire site from going down like that, but whoever wrote the original code did not implement any.
I've been staring at the code and it makes my eyes bleed, which is why I decided to toss it all since the choice of language is painful, and not easy to work with. Before I go any further though I want to talk to Eric since he went ahead and created that ning.com site for us, and I'm not sure what the plan is anymore. Perhaps the 3 of us should talk and sort it out since I'm guessing he's out of the loop as far as what we were planning on doing, and we had no idea he was working on the ning.com idea.

Dont worry about the ning thing. its free and easy, and can be removed easily - the bc one i only spent 10 minutes on. I'm just playing around at this point.
but i do like what i've seen so far. It just doesnt help us with rankings.
Ultimately what i'd like to see happen is each regional ning site, have their own ranking. which rolls up into a national site. but ning does not do that - or anything even remotely close to that for us. so that will have to be developed and maintained external to the ning sites. but there's lots of opportunity to plug in any ranking stuff we come up with into the ning sites. which could all fit together very nicely.
I'll play some more, and ask people to try it out. once i add some more regional sites.

onur, your points at the end of the last singles tourny reads 700 ish and when u go into points you only have 500ish. they don't corelate.
|
|
Strange. I'm going to test adding a new empty tournament to see if that forces the system to re-calculate everyone.

Didn't work. I don't know, I'm out of ideas. Has anyone seen this happen before and know how to fix it?

Your points aren't being calculated for the last tournament. I would think it would correct itself when the new tournament, with points, is added. But if you tried that already and it didn't work, then I don't know. Maybe it's reading the entries backwards.
