Topic: Team Canada at the Bonzini World Championships

Author: foosghost Original Message Posted: Feb 12 2008 11:39PM

There's a chance that there is enough players interested in going to the Bonzini WCS World Championship Series (May 1 to 4 in France) that Canada might be able to field a team to enter in the ITSF National Teams Competition.

I've started this discussion to allow anyone that is intersted in going and playing for Canada to post, or contact us.

We could simply do what we did for the Tornado WCS: that is if more players show up at the Bonzini WCS that are room for the team, then a mini qualifier is held at the event to complete the roster.

Each player would have to purchase their own Team Canada uniform (jacket, shirt/jersey, and pant) - and have to bring it with them to enter the qualifier.

We would elect a player as the captain before hand, and they would run the qualifier.

What do the Bonzini players think?

I've forwarded this post to those that have initially expressed interest, and i hope they give their opinion here, and post on their own message boards a link to this one.

For the qualifer, we have a ITSF bonzini tournement in April at Québec city. We can take the Open single and Women single for qualifer. The best ranking give place to team.

guessin it's not a paid trip? So..who all is thinkin of going and so on??

No..sorey..don't like the idea of it being a qualified position in Quebec really. Kinda discriminates..no offense.

This is not a paid trip no. Its the same thing as the team event that we were just in at the Tornado Worlds in veags.

I think using the quebec city tournament as a qualifier is a great idea. I'm assuming when he said "The best ranking give place to team. " He was saying the highest placing finishers at the quebec city tounament would earn a spot on the team. Not who's ranked highest in their ranking system.

If you want to get on the team, then get your butt out there and compete for the spot. Given that 99% of bonzini players in Canada are all out east, it sucks for a select few out west, but overall i think its the best we can do.

This is just my opinion.

1. It is not a paid trip.
2. Before holding a qualifier, there should be at least 6 men and 2 girls interested in paying their trip to France.

3. If it happens, since most of the players are here for Bonzini, the qualifier should be held in Quebec. Dont think there is more than 3 bonzini out west anyway :) so how will you organize a qualifier!

On an other hand, the team should not be made only 3 weeks before the World Cup if we want the team to be prepared and have chemistry. That`s why i think Larry's idea doesnt fit in here.

Let's wait 2-3 weeks who seems interested and if not more than 6 men and 2 women, we`re going to move on with those player.

If not, than i am going to hold a qualifier here in quebec with the tables. I am willing to organize it if it needs to be done... but i won't do it farther than Quebec.. not even Montreal! It costs money and don't have much to spend those days.

I am pretty sure everybody knows foosball aint a rich hobby and we dont have a big financial structure so far. We do what we can with what we got..

I only hope we're gonna have the 6 men and 2 women so Canada will be represented for the first time at the Bonzini World Cup.

Thanks

FRENCH VERSION OF ORIGINAL POST / VERSION FRANCAISE DU SUJET INITIAL D'ERIC DUNN

Xavier asked me to post that there are 5 men and 2 women thinking of going so far (from Quebec). Is anyone else thinking of going? They need 1 more to make a full team. It is my understanding that you can play 1 player short and forfeit their games (I understand there were teams that did this at the Tornado Worlds). Can someone who went verify?
