I was intending on going tonight after my near stellar performance last week but the Minor hockey AGM is tonight so I will have to pass.

A note for Dave and Robbie,

Please refrain from argueing at the tournament, it is bad for local foos. I really care about foos, even though I'm not always there.

I have arranged to have a therapist show up on thursday night at 9PM to investigate the root cause(s) of your issue(s). We could probably use some legal advice as well. Anyway I would post this on the schedule but it seems that we are unable at this time.

See you there, Peter

Author: supergifted1 Reply #2 Posted: May 4 2008 7:56PM

"I really care about foos" hahaha thats the funniest thing I've heard all year! If you care even a tiny bit about it. Instead of words, since talk is cheap , why not try replacing the 10 year old balls or handles or try showing up once in a while. I havent seen you in 2 months i think

Author: Onur Reply #3 Posted: May 4 2008 8:59PM

That's pretty shitty of you to say Robbie. He has replaced the balls many times. Do you have any idea how many balls have been stolen? Where did the replacements come from? I don't see you supplying the balls, I guess they just magically appear.

Every time he puts a full set of new balls in, they're stolen within a week or two. I would expect you who have been playing longer than me to know that. Lets not forget the fact that he pays for the domain and server hosting costs out of his own pocket.

Onur

Just curious, how much does that cost?

Author: The Next One. Reply #5 Posted: May 5 2008 1:02AM

Pete, come on, do you actually think a therapist could get through to Robbie?

Author: The Next One. Reply #6 Posted: May 5 2008 1:22AM

ok, and Tuan and whoever has the sheets, lets post them and get up to date.

Author: Robert G Reply #7 Posted: May 5 2008 1:57AM

That was a cheap shot......
it was not that long ago that those where new tables!!!
if the so called pro players didnt act like children and shit kick the tables and walls they might not be so bad..
and there has been many replacments of the balls
theyre just shity quality and turn to ice
balls in a week or two
I would say ban unsportman like conduct for a month but
then who would earl and pete play????
and for bar tables that get booze spilled on them every week I think they are in great shape
thx for fighting a good battle Pete.

Author: supergifted1 Reply #8 Posted: May 5 2008 4:45AM

out of the thousands of dollars thats pete has made off of me pumping loonies into his tables, I think I've earned the right to give my opinion, I've paid for all of his tables , many times over, since I've been paying at his tables for about 20 years or so. Do u see how absurd it is for me to hear comments from people like dave and onur who have been combined togeter been paying into petes tables for less than 4 years to make ignorantly rude remarks, and I mean that in the nicest way. p.s when was the last time anyone saw moya at the tourneys, I think i recall seeing her about 6 months ago for 1 tourny.

Author: supergifted1 Reply #9 Posted: May 5 2008 4:53AM

I think even pete would agree with me and aske dave and onur to refrain from making retarded comments. And Gingell u baffoon, by calling earl sportsmanlike u just proved how ridiculous u really are. I guess u forgot why Raymond doesnt show up here anymore. its because in a tourny , earl grabbed him and started physically choking him and threated his life and he's just a five foot 5 inch computer nerd. without a violent bone in his body. I agree that pete is a gentlman and very sportsmanlike but earl? come on. he maybe now but he wastnt very sportsmanlike when he made ray quit foos.I wasnt at that tourny but this is what i heard happende from people that were there

Author: Red Pepper Reply #10 Posted: May 5 2008 2:04PM

Not that the Earl incident can't be considered serious, but, I always regretted not being there to witness that gem of history in bc foos. And im my defense, you can't be a poorsport without putting yourself through a few walls now and again. Aside from all that, in the past we had a set of tournament balls we used to keep in the table that we only brought out for the tourney, and then put the crap balls in at the end of the night, maybe we can start doing that again, and therefore have some decent balls that no one can steal.

Author: The Next One. Reply #11 Posted: May 5 2008 8:28PM

Say What?! Earl did what! That must have been a Loong time ago, becuase for as long as I've known Earl, he's always been a gentleman in front of my face.

Would it be a bad time to ask when the next new tables will be appearing?

Author: Nelson Reply #12 Posted: May 5 2008 8:52PM

I think everyone has been unsportsmanlike at one time or another. There are almost really no exceptions because sometimes we just lose our cool. However, that doesn't mean that one should conduct themselves in that manner all the time. It will make you look bad, will probably not get much accomplished aside from venting and starting a huge argument and will also turn people away from foosball (and in people, I mean the new people getting into foosball).

I can't speak for others but I know when I first started, the constant fighting made me uncomfortable but I kept playing and somewhere along the way I grew accustomed to it unless a brawl almost ensued (this has almost happened on several occasions).

When it really comes down to it, people need to be warned and punished. No one really has that power unless you're Pete/Moya (operators) or Glen (owner of Soho). I am not saying that if people are punished then all shenanigans will stop because that's absurd. It's like saying capital punishment will stop murders. One can only view such a system as a deterrent and not a means to stop it completely.

I'm not petitioning for anyone to be banned but if I go berserk and decide to tip the table in a fit of anger then I would accept the consequence. Sometimes we don't intend to do bad things; however, just as a driver didn't intend to run over the kid who was crossing the street while they weren't paying attention doesn't justify that it wasn't wrong. Having an excuse or means generally doesn't justify the end.

About the balls...yes they really do suck. Not as bad as the cherries were at Starlite but sometimes bad enough. I did like having balls with fuzz at tournament time. I don't think it would hurt to have them in the table or some safe place. However, that would mean Pete or Moya would have to trust someone with the keys.

I haven't been around much because I'm just really busy. Hope you're all doing well.

How the heke are ya Nelson?

So your saying that all of this stuff happened even before I started jaming with you guys? NO WAY!

Come down sometimes there Mr. Szeto

Author: supergifted1 Reply #14 Posted: May 5 2008 11:38PM

it good 2 hear from u nelson, u shud try to make an appearance. hey, the way i see it, we are just like a dysfunctional family, who here has never argued or yelled at a sibling before? we are passionate about the game.some people jus get carried away, maybe we need security guards or cops in booths like they do in manhattan to curb the violence, along with a referree.

Author: Chipfoos Reply #15 Posted: May 6 2008 2:27AM

Ha, this thread is hilarious! Topics like fighting, destruction of property, and proposed bannings over competitve foosball is really funny when you look at it from an outsider's perspective. Hey Robbie, you could be the "Johnny Horton" of the Vancouver foosball scene .

Author: supergifted1 Reply #16 Posted: May 6 2008 3:26AM

me? hmmmm lets do the math dave and john at the old soho almost duking it out, dave and craig argueing, and dave threatens him and craig says he'll phone the cops, dave n me arguing over something dave started, last week ,I saw tuan shove dave for pushing him, do u see a pattern here, the lowest common denominator? do the math.just because i dont put up with crap, im the bad guy? I dont mind being compared to horton, but u dont mention dave ? am i missing something here? wtf?

Author: supergifted1 Reply #17 Posted: May 6 2008 3:37AM

oh and i forgot about dave and tim argueing and dave threatened tim's life and tim threated daves life, i was standind two feet away and heard it with my own ears so why isnt it dave the next johnny horton of the vancover foosball scene why me, not that i care, i'm just confused/baffled

Author: The Next One. Reply #18 Posted: May 6 2008 4:49AM

This is starting to get out of hand.
Robbie, I won't post any more bad things about you.
(return the favor)
Ignore what others are saying about you. I don't care about the $80 u owe me, the debt is cleared on my side.

Before I thought it would be great if other's got on your case but now I see that it's getting personal, I don't want other peoples commments dividing you and I even more.

It's great that there is a competive sport rivalry, and in all honesty this may be good for our sport, but in terms of me on a personal level, I don't want this

Grow up!

Author: Red Pepper Reply #20 Posted: May 6 2008 4:39PM

Hey Wait! Me and Dave came to blows one time which almost resulted in some fisticuffs, and I believe Dave and Harvey did come to blows (with Harvy throwing one). What does this add to up to? It's all Harry Yap's fault - damn that guy for being so happy when he takes out a good team. lol. j/k of course, I think Dave has been farely mellow the last 6 months or so, and overall, everyone is cool to talk to off the table - but man, call a jar on someone, get ready for a bar fight!lol.

Author: The Next One. Reply #21 Posted: May 6 2008 5:28PM

Hey, what's right is right and what's is wrong. I'll still tell you to your face if you cross the line

Author: The Next One. Reply #22 Posted: May 6 2008 5:52PM

And when I cross the line or act inappropriately I can own up and say i made a mistake, unlike some of us. I think all my issues were do to everyone getting to know me. I was this hotshot kid who thought he was great (but did have talent), new to the foosball scene and the guys thought they could push me around or take advantage of me. I was just earning my stripes, reacting to what was coming at me. Let's face it, most of the guys are a pretty thick skined bunch of guys. That's why I tried so hard to get to master, becuase then you have just earned it. Now in my mind, I can be a lot mellower because everyone knows my personality now and I became master. I can now teach others about the game, give them tips and so on with my new "degree".

Author: The Next One. Reply #23 Posted: May 6 2008 6:10PM

I've grown up the last few years with all you guys, and I still have a lot of growing up to do. I don't want to be fooser who's been playing for 20 years, pumping thousands of dollars into Pete's machines and acting like a straight up cry baby.

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #24 Posted: May 7 2008 8:23PM

WOW. This is better than WWE. Two Korean guys going at it. I'll buy tickets. One question though which one is North Korea which is South Korea?

I also remember in past years Jeremy driving many people over the edge. Whatever happened to him?

I remember Jeff getting mad at me for letting in too much slop and vowing to never play with me again. I have had two pricks (I mean other players) challenge me to fights here in Shanghai for drilling them over and over with a snake shot.

I have had similar problems with my site as I use the same host. Apparently they are switching servers and management consoles. What a hassle...

---------

Here is the posting I made several days ago to try to find out on the Saskfoos site. why the Vancouver site was down. My humour must be pretty bad - not even one response

www.vancouverfoosball.com is down. Anyone know why?

David Letterman emailed me and he thought it could be:
1. They aren't paying their bills so they can afford some B.C. real estate?
2. San Andreas fault catastrophe and all of B.C. under water (time to buy Ocean front property in Alberta)?
3. Too busy drinking coffee and smoking dope out there to check their server?
4. Tim talking too much has used up all the oxygen and they are all asphixiated?
5. Moya's current hair colour temporarily blinded everyone out there?
6. Rob Shin finally went postal?
7. Eric Dunn got approval to make B.C. it's own nation for foosball purposes?
8. They all went on strike out there until the Canucks make the playoffs again?
9. They are pissed off because the Riders won this year and all drank the "kool-aid"?
10. Two words - Al Qaeda

meathead posts "this is getting out of hand I won't post anymore bad things about you, return the favor" so then I thought to myself ,cool with me. Then just 5 posts later , meathead infers that I am a crybaby. wtf? Gimme some of what yer on meathead. I will post no more derogatory remarks after this even if meathead types a scathing essay. I will take the higher road, and I apologize to my fans for stooping to the level of a braindead , clueless , bottomfeeder. THE END

Author: BriL Reply #32 Posted: May 9 2008 5:16PM

I would have to agree with most of the players that the tables, balls need to be replaced on a reasonable basis. Being a foosball player myself and now getting into some promotion I do not like playing on old tables with slippery balls. Tables have come down in price now so it is not that expensive to buy new ones. A 2-3 year cycle for tables would probably be reasonable not 5+. Sell the old ones off for a reasonable price and invest in some new ones. Balls should be replaced aound 4-5 times a year. They can be refurbed a bit but wear down soon.

Author: van_can_foos Reply #33 Posted: May 10 2008 12:46AM

FWIW, I should confirm that I the aformentioned incident involving me did happen more or less how Robbie described it. It was 14 years ago and I've openly talked about it when asked.

The only detail I really wanted to add is that I was banned from playing for 3 months. That really hurt, because back then I was playing every weekly event, and I missed it terribly. But it was deserved.

Author: moyatielens Reply #34 Posted: May 11 2008 4:29PM

This might not do any help at all, but to back up Pete about the balls...you guys (with few exceptions..ie..Jeff for example) have no idea bout the playing/lasting condition of the balls now adays. Pete has asked me on more than a few occasions in the past to bring back used balls from the tournaments. (To buy them new are redarded ridiculous and not even worth it after seeing how long they last.) The balls at the end of the tourney (ask Jeff) are hardly worth playing on, let alone having to pay money for them. People play on balls for about 2-3 days and then start having them replaced for last day or so of the tournament. It is beyond ridiculous and really really not worth the money.

Yes, you can kinda refurbish them, but that is a chore on it's own and then only last about a couple weeks.

I agree, it may be possible to keep a set of decent balls in the table to use for tournaments, but that even became an issue in the past.

Unfortunately, the quality issue is a real mess and there is very lil, we being the table owner/operators can do about it. Way too costly when considering cost of balls, shipping to how long they last, and/or how often they get stolen.

Anyhow, as I've said, I'm only trying to get you to understand the quality in which we are being given is hardly worth the purchase. Ask Mary Moore why she is turning to Warrior for her future tournaments.

Author: supergifted1 Reply #35 Posted: May 12 2008 12:46PM

its funny how they can send a man to the moon but cant make a foosball that last longer than 3 days of tournament play? I should phone my buddy peter hwang that graduated from M.I.T. and he could solve this faster than his Rubik's cube.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #36 Posted: May 12 2008 2:06PM

From what I have heard, they have gone through so many different ball types its not even funny. It's just impossible for a new ball to last forever, its like a new set of tires, eventually wear will always kick in. Literally, you can notice wear on a new ball after a day of playing, and after 2 or 3 days they are what I would call tournament ice, and definately need to be replaced. I have heard some of the more competitive players go though like 25 balls during their pre-tournament practice, cause the difference is so noticeable between a day or two.
