What happened to my message thread "If anyone is interested in viewing stats etc." ??? It was there a week ago. It had the link to where we could view our stats and enter tournaments. It just vanished!! unless I missed it. I even did a search for it and nothing. Why would someone remove that thread?

Ooooooooooooops... I found it..just in time.
while we are on the subject, maybe we should make a plea to Skye to get Pete's site up and running again.
|
|
I haven't looked through it much more then the last time i posted it. But this may be a viable option if we cannot get our points system back up: http://www.netfoos.com/signup.shtml
Basically the site would track every tournament, but I don't think it tracks points (although there is a local points section), but it does wins/losses/money earned etc. Kinda allright.

It's not that I don't mind spending the 3 minutes to set up the site... The problem is that pete's not willing to provide hosting for his own site. A cost of $10 to $20 per full year. And Pete has continually ignored all postings regarding this point so good luck with that....
You could always register a domain and get hosting (costs under $20 to $30 a year to maintain for everything). If you do that, maybe you can get pete to give you a couple hundred bucks a year for helping him promote the use of his tables... :o/ i am funny.. no? (the "no" is pronounce how a wetback just off the boat would say it - don't worry I'm half mexican today so I can say that)
Once you beat the twenty bucks out of pete you will then need to get access to the site (ftp info etc..) and a copy of the last updated website pages. I would think you would have to get those from "the self proclaimed fiction coder" himself, Mr. onur. Or... I think in one of the threads it was mentioned that the Fabulous Kid Lighting has a copy as well, so knowing that, that shouldn't be a problem.
I do know, that I know little about business and I shouldn't be talking.... however one would think that the promoter of the tables would internally collect part of the funds from Soho who is profiting from the drinks and part of the take of the table profits. I would think most business persons that had a interest in the tables would secretly take care of business behind close doors and take the credit for the sponsoring of the big $10-$20 per full year. I know the club is in Canada but come on, that's "American Business 101"....

..or of course you can use the site that, that hot red pepper with a back kick to the wall just mentioned :o) that might be the easiest solution...

Mitch came over to my house a couple days ago and he thinks that it is a huge blow to our local players if there are no tourny's held on a weekly basis anymore. Won't help with the growth of our locals especially when they go elsewhere to compete.

Guys the tournament sheet from Freddy's classic and the following sunday, what should I do with them? Keep em or trash em? I can't even enter em.
|
|
I love skye. Plus - it was no back kick - it was just my back after kicking off the table (minus the flip) that did the damage. If anyone ever comes to me and says that if I buy a domain they will then transfer the site to me, then I will do it. But, my knowledge is not really up to par in this department or I would have helped where I could (as Skye has, who has done more then his fair share).

why don't you guys switch over to ning. Ning is a community site that is all free. You can either have a sub page (or group) of the Table Soccer Assocation ning site or setup your own.
check out: http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/
its all free. it comes with messageboards, the ability to post video's, post events - and rsvp for events so you know who's coming, personal messages, etc. everything, and its easy to setup if you're willing to play around a bit. No coding required.
I setup the base TSAC site in a couple of hours.
Plus if you have other stuff running on other sites (like a ranking system - ie netfoos) that site can be embedded inside the ning site.
The edmonton foosers are changing over - they're starting to use: http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/group/edmontonfoosball
which is a group underneath the tsac site.
I've already created a group for Vancouver foosers: http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/group/vancouverfoosball and if the basic funtionality that is there is not enough, then i can create another main ning site just for vancouver foosball, like:
http://vancouverfoos.ning.com/
Even though i'm the creator of that site, ning allows me to assign others as administrators, and someoen else can maintain it (ie create messageboards, and add features - like the ability to add events, videos etc -and control the overall look and feel of the site - incase you don't like green) B-)
If you didnt understand anything i've said - no worries. bottom line, i don't know why anyone would bother to deal with setting up their own domain, and stand up all of this stuff themselves anymore, when their are tools (like ning) out there that allow you to do it all for free.
It's like building your own word processer to write a resume (and paying for it) vs just using microsoft word for free

Actually the site has been paid up in full for months but the person doing the work decided the hassle wasn't worth it.

I'm will talk to Kid lightning next week about the transfer as I'm working nights atm

Finally we hear from Pete... good to see... or do I mean hear..
Pete, I think you have the 'site', and "hosting" and the "domain" confused....
The domain which has been costing you $6.95 per full year is paid up, as you paid for 2 years originally - and it's only been a year and a few months.
The hosting which cost $10 - $20 per full year has Not been paid for... (unless you paid onur of course) the hosting expired when the point system stopped working, and your webmaster 'onur' is now hosting it on his linux server - I'm just referring to the main page of course. In order for the stats to work it has to be on a windows server or the pages have to be re-written to work on linux. (That would probably take onur about 3 hours I would guess - twinkle, sparkle, wink!)
Anyway, after all this trouble over $10 to $20. The fantastic, sensational Mr. Kid Lighting has come in on his white lighting horse and saved the day. He's bought a domain and is providing hosting on his server. Three cheers for the Kid!!!

skye..
k..you may have caught me on an "off day" but... and I'm going to try to be as unrude as I can possibly be...
Business has not much to do with it anymore. It was hardly lucrative as it was..and was too much work to make it worth it. Once family and life got involved...well...ask why anyone else isn't doing it???
Um...my point??? Life is what it is..and if it weren't for Peter...there would be no Tornado's in Vancouver at all. The money?? You really think there's that much? Hahahahah....fuuuuuuunnnEEeeee!!!
Umm..ok..back to trying to be unrude. Foosball is harly a "business" nor much of our "life" anymore.
Mayb I'm doing more harm than good with this, but like I said...
guess ya caught me on an off day.
Moya
P.S. Hi everyone. *waves* Miss ya guys a lil bit. :)

Moya, - you've taken my comments out of context.. this isn't about money - most of us spend $20 just trying to get through breakfast and lunch... And just so you know, I've never thought that there was money in promoting foosball, or by owning foosball tables, or more of us would be in the foosball business.
Whether Pete is making money or not, that's never been the problem, has it?... if you read past posts you will see that even I offered to sponsor the $20 a year hosting for the site. Of course without reply... and that's where the problem lies... if you are going to own a club website, say you promote foosball for the club, and then the site goes down... step up, and say it outloud:
'sorry guys, we just can't afford to fund the hosting as we aren't making any money. For this reason the next two tournaments we are going to deduct $10 from the winner's amount to pay for the hosting".
Now, I'm sure if you would have said so, not one person would have complained let alone even commented. You know this because the people playing foosball are your friends, and we all know you aren't making piles of money.
Instead of saying anything - there was only silence... see the problem?
And now with the thought that Pete's domain and website would be taken out of his hands and he would lose control, making vancouverfoosball.com obsolete - pete's voice appears. Strange the way that works...
Anyway, I think you've misread my childish sarcasm to be what it's not. And I do apologize if my points are sharp...
---------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, and before I forget, please tell Pete to log into his 'godaddy' account and set the 'pointer' or 're-director' for his domain... I'm not sure what it's called within the control panel but it's something like that. Anyway, get Pete to point his domain to: vancouverfoosball.net. This way people that have the old website bookmarked can still enjoy the site without having to change their settings.

No actually I have had hosting paid for for quite some time. Just I didn't have the patience/ability to deal with the transfer and sometimes life intercedes. I am sure you understand that this happens to all of us at times.
|
|
sure of course - all is good, we all understand life, and the way it turns and twists our lives. No big deal what-so-ever - stuff happens.
Now if we can just get Mr. onur back playing foosball, everything will be back in order. After all, we all need to hear a good story from time to time and without onur what are we to do...
