Topic: Qualifier for Team Canada at Tornado Worlds
|
|
Why can't people buy the shirts after, depending if they qualify or not? That was the whole reason I didn't try to qualify last year, that and nobody told me when the qualifier was....
|
|
Cause we don't know who's going to qualify, and what shirt sizes they will need, and TSAC does not have the funds to buy a large assortment of shirts to fit every outcome. Plus last year, the ITSF wanted everyone to have a track suit type jacket, but hardly any of the other teams did that, so this year we are not either.
Please read that message board for all things concerning ITSF based events - i'll try to post back here, but we've posted many times that the TSAC has moved off of these boards, so if you're interested in participating in any TSAC / ITSF events, then you'd best start watching the TSAC mesage boards on:

I read the tsac boards all the time, but the thread was still an executive thread which I could not post on. I don't mind buying my own shirt or suit or paying my own way to italy. I just have a huge problem with essentially paying to enter a qualifier.
|
|
The executive threads on the TSAC site the http://tablesoccerca.ning.com one not the http://www.tablesoccer.ca/ one
anyone can post to - all you have to do is register for a ning account - it's free.
Paying a 'shirt' to enter a qualifier was the only way we'd be able to run the qualifer at the event, and ensure that everyone had their size of team wear. Blame Darrel Popowich. it was his idea.
|
|
Ahh - gotcha. I am registered on the Ning site, but maybe I was looking at a different thread.
Just some food for thought, if Kane and Mario show up with no shirts (as they have claimed on the Foosball board) and want to play in the qualifier, would they be allowed to play? My point being if this shirt rules is going to be the same for everyone...
|
|
Right now, (if you're following the thread on the ning site), we're trying to find a way to make everyone happy.
We're going to either use last years shirt (if we can find enough of them), or I'm going to buy enough of the chosen shirts for this year, and simply charge an entry fee (like $15 per person) for people to enter the qualifier - to help offset the cost of the shirts. Cause right now the shirts are a bit hard to come by.
Bottom line, yes, everyone, and i mean everyone will be treated equally under what ever system we find enough shirts for.
So yes, if we decide that everyone is going to need to buy their own 15 dollar shirt, and mario and kane showup without one, then they won't be allowed in the qualifier.
Is it possible for you (or someone else from Vancouver) to check the local Bay stores and see if they have any of the shirts we need to buy.
This is them:
and here's the thread that is going on concerning the shirts: http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/forum/topic/show?id=1985405%3ATopic%3A1829
Seeing as they are only 15 bucks a peice now, i'm willing to buy a bunch of them (like 10) and hopefully we'll end up with enough sizes to fit everyone that makes the team.

Nice shirt, i'm going to buy one if i can find one cause i think they look cool .
|
|
I know that I have next to no chance to make the team (maybe the senior event in a couple of years) but I would still like to get a jersey to support the team and to enter the tryout for fun.
Since I am not in Canada anymore is anyone able to pick up a shirt for me? I like the one with the big maple leaf on the front in size XXL. Of course I will pay you in Vegas and even buy you a beer as well.
Please let me know if anyone is able to pick one up for me.
Thanks,
Fred Gower

hey fred. Didn't you play for another country some time this year or last?
Once you play for a country you cannot play far another one for three years I think.
Bit if we can find an extra shirt for you it's yours
|
|
Eric - if you can pick me up one of these shirts I will reimburse you at worlds. I could not find any locally.
|
|
What size you looking for?
|
|
medium or large, something that will fit a slender 6 footer.

Eric,
I played for China in a team event in 2007 but don't think it was an ITSF sanctioned event. Would that have an impact on the 3 year rule? The Open Singles and Open Doubles were but I don't think the team event was.
I am not expecting to make the Canadian team but would like the challenge of trying out for it and supporting whoever is on it by wearing a shirt. I will look into if it was sanctioned event if that matters. Who knows I could get lucky at Vegas and qualify but not expecting to.
In 2 years I will be 50 and if Gerry and others don't plan on trying out for ITSF Worlds that year I may have a chance.
Thanks,
Fred Gower

Eric,
2007 results from VIFA Asia Open only had two events under ITSF purvey: Open Singles and Open Doubles
http://www.table-soccer.org/tournaments/results/2007/20070528_my_kuala-lumpur.pdf
The International Event was just a goodwill thing. Do you think it would come under the rules as having played for a different country? My sense is no. I say this because when I enquired about playing for China at ITSF Worlds that year I was not allowed because I was not a Chinese citizen. Would you like me to ask the ITSF to clarify whether the 3 year rule would apply to me?
Once this is resolved, I am hoping to play in the Canadian qualifier. Were you able to find an XXL jersey that I could buy from you?
Thanks in advance.

sorry fred. I can't find any xxl. Plus the idea of entering just for fun is not really a good idea in a round robin format cause you might effect the outcomes of other teams that care. Hope that makes sense. Do you have a partner for event too?
|
|
Eric,
No problem if you cannot find a shirt. If someone is going to the store to get one for themselves and were willing to pick one up for me in size XXL that would be great.
When I said enter for fun that did not mean I did not care. It meant that I thought my chances were not good but I still wanted the chance to play in it anyway in order to develop my own game. Pulling off an upset is exactly what I would love to do and I hope it does affect the outcome. That is the point of a qualifier - survival of the fittest. This is not an appointment and a warmup - is it? So no it doesn't really make sense at all. A qualifier should be open to all and it should not only be entered if you are a favourite. Just my opinion anyway.
I realize that the favourites may not like this but tough qualifying makes for a stronger team. In China it is much tougher to qualify for the Chinese National Ping Pong team than it is to win the gold medals in competition. That is why they are so good.
I do not have a partner for the event but think it is possible that others will be in the same boat.
All this might be moot anyway if I don't have the required shirt. Not too many Bay stores here in Florida.
If no shirt is a deal breaker that is cool but I would have liked to participate if it could have worked out.
Either way - Go Canada Go!
I do hope to play for Canada in a couple of years as a senior. I don't think I am a lock here but I do think I have a shot.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Regards,
Fred

due to issues of availability of the shirt we are not likely going to require that players bring their own.
Sorry for the misunderstanding fred yes. Everyone is encouraged to enter the qualifier if the wish to try to be part of the team.
|
|
Maybe I am confused about something, is the qualifier a bring your own partner doubles event? Or does everyone play with everyone?
|
|
Yes the qualifier is a bring your own partner doubles event.
