Topic: "The Pro" Professional foosball table - brown top?

Author: Red Pepper Original Message Posted: Dec 15 2008 3:55PM

We just got this new table at work, I am curious if anyone knows what it is.

Description:

1. Old as shit
2. Brown wood all over, brown surface
3. Up to 5 score markers
4. Men that look like soccer men, with a wierd 1 inch screw base coming out of it.
5. Banked corners, 1 man goalie
6. Foot of the man is a block
7. The middle has a logo that says The Pro - Professional Foosball table
8. You can do most shots, I shot a good backpin (quick and easy inside tucks, easy push side etc. etc. - much easier than on a dynamo which I find to do bad ass back pins quite easy on), front pin, roller, tick-tac is kind of weak, but okay pulls and pull kicks, you can bank from anywhere easily(I was doing backpin banks from the 3 bar after 1 game of using this thing).

Any ideas?

my guess is a pro soccer table from around 1983 - 1984

Sounds like an old Pro-Top we use to play on... Johnny would know...

if the balls r white and sticky, thats prolly an old pro-top, thats the table thar mitch's backpins ruled

Author: Red Pepper Reply #6 Posted: Dec 16 2008 11:34PM

the balls are generally whatever I bring in so I can't really comment on that part, but, I could see it being a very good back pin table. To pin a ball, the man is almost completely vertical, which makes back pins very quick to squeeze out and middles pretty easy to do.

Well the last version of men for the Pro Top were yellow and opposing players a brownish color - if my memory hasn't totally failed me.

A friend of Tim's bought our last quality Pro-Top with another going to a camp in the Merrit area. We donated another to a club in Richmond and the last one I think was just trashed. It could be one of these but likely it would be from Alberta.

I looked at the back of the men, and it had the writing, "Pro-Soccer Patent Pending" so I am guessing.....Lechmacher? hahaha. Anyways - I really like the table, and if this was how the tables were back in the day, then I don't see why anyone who played back than can't play just as good as on todays tables. You can do all the same bag of tricks, but the grip is unbelievable. It is almost impossible to drop a pass, stick walls never run through, on any pinned series you can go from 1 dot to the 5 - just nasty this thing. It's just a bad ass beast - albeit a little wobbly.

It plays pretty close to one of the euro tables (maybe Jupiter? Fredericos table anyay, if I remember correctly) - and you can see why Fred does certain stuff on Tornado based on this table (like the pinned 2-5 pass to the middle man and the steep wall).

Anyways, its all good - blazing fast backpins though, but it's still the easiest to score with a snake (for me).

I would love to play an old school player on this table, and see the maximum to what it can do. Kid Lightning maybe....?

Tell me when and where and i'll show you what a back pin as all about sonny .

Author: Red Pepper Reply #10 Posted: Dec 17 2008 4:22PM

hahaha - yea, I can probably bring you in as a guest one of these days/nights, but we forewarned, I am just as good on this table as I am on Tornado.

kid lighting would have yer pants pulled down so fast. i saw the speed.

what a rad thread

The kid definately has a good pull kick, but I feel good about blocking it on the Tornado. It may actually be a better shot on the Pro Soccer table since the men are not as wide on the foot, making it easier to split if you are too used to the tornado spacing.

And as for Johnny's back pin - I will dead race that slug on any table made in existance.

kid lightnings backpin is insane not that pullkick.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #15 Posted: Dec 18 2008 2:29PM

Oh Right. I don't think he's shot it against on Tornado, so I can't comment. I could see the BP being the shot to do on this table tho - and the snake.

I've just played on that table at EA, yeah it's an old pro top alright. Feels so good to squeeze the back pin shot and rip it from one end to the other. Takes getting use to again, like Jeffy said, your men is almost vertical when doing a backpin and the ball is sticky enough to be so far forward before it squeezes out. My money shot has always been the backpin on that table. I don't know when the pull kick came into play probably when I couldn't shoot the backpin on the Tornado... Anyways it's one of my favorite tables, the other would be TS Million dollar soccer table.

Regarding the Pro-top table that's landed in your lap, I'm sure there's at least 20 of us who'd love to have a retro-tourney on that table! How 'bout banks only?

Knowing that isn't possible, I thought about who might be the best to demonstrate the strengths of the table to you (other than you Johnny, hehe). I honestly listed KidLightning AHEAD of Mitch because I feel his backpin was devastating back then. I've always found Mitch to be more about timing and subleties, and KL was pure power.

THEN I remembered that KL actually works there too! What a fluke! Hopefully you'll get a chance to play each other sometime and report back.

KL: Next time you're coming down to SoHo please give us all a heads-up on this board, I'll try to make it out.

Earl

was that the ol Johnny Borberly you are all talking about? man I remember that guy from way back in the age of foosball, and I decree, his backpin ssssssuuuuucked. I mean, I have seen some crappy backpins before, but his was the chlymedia of backpins. It literally ruined the playing field it was so bad. Kid Lightning really had a fast one, now that was a back pin - I still tell my kids bedtimes stories about that. But, if I really hit the bottle, and really want to hurt my kids, I start telling them Johnny stories. They scream so loud - no more Johnnnyyyy - I can't take blocking that shot anymore. No more slow backpins. Pleaseeeeee no more slow back pins. Where is this SoHo? Anyone have directions? I would love to tell my kids some new stories, maybe even fill their stocking with a hand written story of how I stumbled into SoooHooo, drunk as a skunk and blind from the real home made apple cider coolers I made, and block that thing until he cries home to Vicze asking for tips how to play defense. Does he still try to dead race pulls shots too? That's another story for another thread, but I got some gooooooood stories about blowing out the back of the net while goood ol'johnny was trying to slow race my pull. I had no middle and no short because the long was there every time. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM goes another one, good game, thanks for coming out. 82 singles champ. back from the grave.

Lol Dirk AKA Jeffia, you better have reflexes like Bush's if you plan on even dreaming about stopping one shot all night long on that table .

Brundlefly - your bricked pin would be so backable. Jeffy would shut you out.

I hope there will never be a new backpin table like that in the future. I want my shot to rule for all ages.

I wish that was me, but reading the post, it looks like a player from the distant past? Rix maybe? I do like the cut of his jib though - he is a true poet laureate.
