Topic: Points - Adding Tournaments

Author: Red Pepper Original Message Posted: Dec 20 2008 2:57PM

Are we gonna start doing this again, because the point system is totally out of whack and people are playing in ranks they shouldn't be in.

We need to either think of a new method to enter results (everyone being allowed to with only moderators being allowed to delete) or something else, maybe even develop a whole a new system thats easier to keep up to date.

Well where is the sheet?

Where is last weeks sheet?

WHere is last last sunday's sheet?

I can enter em and see.

About players who are under ranked, let them win a few tournaments and the rankings will be adjusted i think.

I believe i can re rank people on the system. WHO IS SANDBAGGING?

Author: The Next One. Reply #2 Posted: Dec 21 2008 5:58AM

I would say forget re-ranking the players. The point system is honest enough that a player will eventually be ranked in his or her appropriate ranking. Jeff yourself for example pro to master.

Its boring to see Tuan Jeff Tim Moi win all the tournaments anyway. Well, except when I win them , but I haven't won a tournament for a while now (cause Im sharing the wealth lol). I think there will be more interest for others coming out if there are new people winning tournaments. Tuan's going on holidays soon so we will probably see Robbie out during that time. I suspect we will be seeing some new winners, first time winners in the near future. It will all balance out later, rankings will be correct as well.

That's just my opinion though, don't know if my head is on straight right now, been out in minus 30 degree weather for the last while. I hear it's pretty bad in Van these days, Everyone here jokes that once Vancouverites see snow, they lose it and don't know what to do. Cant drive, cant go to school, cant go to work etc....I need a comeback for that, any ideas?

yeah you suck .

My pin shot rules Soho anyways so enter at you're own risk.

And as usual add a lot of salt .

Author: Red Pepper Reply #4 Posted: Dec 21 2008 1:53PM

It's not really the system on its own as much as it is we only enter about a third of the tournaments played. If there was an easier way to enter, or to motivate someone to enter, it might help level things.

Author: Table Lag Reply #5 Posted: Dec 21 2008 2:01PM

I don't know what kind of crazy whacko nut-job would enter the tournaments every week.

Author: The Next One. Reply #6 Posted: Dec 21 2008 7:40PM

lol probably someone who comes out more than once a year.

Ok, Does someone have the doubles chart? or the other singles chart>>>Tuan doesn't care for that one because he says he's too far ahead of everyone else that it doesnt matter. Maybe he's got a point.

Author: The Next One. Reply #9 Posted: Dec 22 2008 12:50AM

Tournament entered. Tim your points seem to be capped off at 2400. Maybe that's what happened to Jeff as well. Im going in now to the system to bump you up 70 points.

Note, check out your stats at www.vancouverfoosball.net

Author: The Next One. Reply #10 Posted: Dec 22 2008 12:56AM

Its been edited. Tim you are now at 2470. Let's see what happens when we enter the next tournament what happens to your points.

There was also the tournament the Friday before where Tuan won as well, I can't remember who has the chart for that one.

Author: Nelson Reply #12 Posted: Dec 22 2008 1:48PM

no one has it since someone spilled water all over it

Author: Red Pepper Reply #13 Posted: Dec 22 2008 2:38PM

HAHAHAHHA - Sweet

Anyone recap from memory?

Author: Nelson Reply #14 Posted: Dec 22 2008 4:06PM

winner's:

nelson df mike
tuan df <some new guy>
jeff df john
nelson df paul
tuan df jeff

loser's side:
john df mike
nelson df john
jeff df nelson

That's about all I can really remember.

Author: Nelson Reply #15 Posted: Dec 22 2008 4:30PM

Oh i got sent to loser's side by Jeff. Tuan ended up winning in the end.

By the way, the points are messed up. Not that I really care who is where but if I could get reset to beginner that'd be great.

The point is that after you are expert or pro the rank for me starts becoming meaningless. It means a lot for people who first start playing to climb the ladder and get up there but most people generally know where they belong depending on their level of play.

I think the only reason why we have them is really to give the newcomers a chance because of the handicap and a goal for the newbies to be called "expert" or "pro". But in all honestly they're still amateurs or semi-pro at best compared to players on the tour.

Remember when I used to be amateur and played goal for people? People cried blasphemy for the longest time. I actually enjoyed that more then being labeled an "expert" or "pro".

I only practice to introduce new skills and make my game better...albeit it's still rusty but I'm working on it. The local tourneys are too frequent, too small and with no incentive. Some of the reasons we started going to Seattle frequently in the past.

Oh and please fix the tables. The last couple weeks playing on them have been not so great. All rods need to be CLEANED thoroughly and bearings need to be replaced. Some bumpers are completely destroyed and new balls are necessary. It's pretty lame when you do a perfect wall pass and it squeezes by your 3 cuz the ball is too small and you're pulling on the 3 as hard as you can to compress the bumper. Must've happened at least 10 times last week.

I would say we should promote once a month "Big Ones" for 15 a head or something, but I don't know if we have enough tables to support something like this (having 10 teams on 2 tables is chaos). I find that in Seattle those double draws are pretty successful, and if we could mirror that in someway I think we may have something to draw out the irregulars.

I don't feel comfortable entering a tourny with a blank and not all the spots filled.

So i won't till i get more info.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #18 Posted: Dec 22 2008 6:54PM

Something had to happen to Paul on the losers, as well as the new guy.

Author: The Next One. Reply #19 Posted: Dec 22 2008 11:40PM

Ok, tell me what happend to Paul.

I'll just enter the new guy as the "new guy" and edit his name later. But what happend to Paul?

Author: Red Pepper Reply #20 Posted: Dec 23 2008 12:23AM

I think Tuan played Paul. Nelson - did you beat Paul on the loser's side?

Author: Nelson Reply #21 Posted: Dec 23 2008 2:30AM

hmmm I think I did. I remember playing him and then John.

Author: The Next One. Reply #22 Posted: Dec 23 2008 2:52AM

Its up, i used my imagination to fill in the blanks, let me know what you guys think.

Author: Nelson Reply #23 Posted: Dec 23 2008 3:06AM

I only beat Paul once. I never played Tuan. I lost to Jeff twice.

Aside from that whoa did I ever get a lot of points for beating people lower than me. Wow! I don't think the points moved you up that quickly in the past for beating people with less points than you.

Author: The Next One. Reply #24 Posted: Dec 23 2008 3:28AM

OMG

I'm deleting it...please give an updated version of the tourny and ill enter it then.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #25 Posted: Dec 23 2008 12:32PM

winner's:

nelson df mike
tuan df <some new guy>
jeff df john
tuan df paul
jeff df nelson
tuan df jeff (winner of winners)

loser's side:
john df mike
xxxx df the new guy
nelson df paul
nelson df john
jeff df nelson (losers bracket finals)
tuan df jeff (finals 1st match)

The only blank is who defeated the new guy on the losers side - which has to be either John, Mike, or Paul. Once Johnny and Mike post - we will have the answer:)

Author: The Rook Reply #26 Posted: Dec 23 2008 2:41PM

I have no idea. Which tournament was this? Was this the one where I had to leave early to solve some plumbing problems?

Author: Superfly Reply #27 Posted: Dec 23 2008 7:03PM

Yeah, i beat the "new guy" .

Author: The Next One. Reply #28 Posted: Dec 23 2008 9:01PM

Ok, will enter it later or tomorrow.
