Craig and Jeff Tung will be there. They should be in the Wednesday events as well.

You can see live brackets here:

Thanks Jeff,

They should do well together. The good thing about this team is that either or can switch positions at any time and be effective. They should bring home a beginners title.

Author: moyatielens Reply #2 Posted: Jan 21 2009 6:40PM

OMG..you kidding me?? Think they've left already, but they're beginners? If they don't bring home at least a beginners title, I would let them back in Soho. I'm sure Mary has her way of doing things, but I hope she doesn't ask me cause there's no way I could say they were beginners, man.

Yea - its their first major, so they should be able to play in all 6 events. Both Jeff and Craig have been playing really well lateley, so I hope they do well.

And Moya, you haven't been at a local tourney in a while, so how could you have accurate information for Mary(if you catch my drift)....

And of course, as always, good luck to you Moya as well:) Do us proud, our games all derive partly from yours:)

Moya,

Where were you at Tornado worlds? I wish you would have mentioned something about all the European pro masters playing in the Rookie events. Sheeesh!

Hope you are well and good luck in your events.

Go Craig and Dave. Bring back some hardware.

Fred

Hey, posting on behalf of Craig since he doesnt have a computer and he types slowly.

We made it in time for the DYP. I drew a beginner (what are the odds?) and I was out in 3. Craig drew a promaster and came in 3rd. Took a game off Ryan Moore...

Apparently Earl wanted an update on how the glove was working... Craig seems like he will be playing with it forever, the glove fits like a glove for him. I've been using it on and off and finding it okay.

The tables are okay, there are some issues with the ball getting stuck on the walls and even pro level players are screwing up with too many walls or losing possession. All sorts of weird rules are popping up to fix this like allowing jars or allowing movement of the ball back to the serving position at the cost of 1 wall touch. The solid rods seem to give the bar a bit more momentum, but everything is doable with adjustments.

LoL, thanks for the glove review - and all the other details too.

Good luck and have fun down there!

Craig is in the Rookies final now

Author: van_can_foos Reply #11 Posted: Jan 23 2009 12:35AM

More details...

Both Beg. Singles Finals (Jeff) and Rookie Singles Finals (Craig) are to be played later - not sure when. In both events Jeff & Craig are attempting to double-dip from losers side. In both events second gets a trophy, first gets a table - no $$$.

Also Jeff & partner Mike Philbrook are sitting 5/6th on the losers side in Pro/Am Doubles. Craig & his partner Ben Davis (a Beginner?) are sitting 4th on the losers side in the Thursday DYP, out of 29 teams.

Live streaming will start Fri at 9am our time here:

Some time in the afternoon the stream will change to:

Author: van_can_foos Reply #15 Posted: Jan 23 2009 12:37PM

That must've been some other event, Peter. I was out and didn't see it - at least it wasn't the finals.

BRANDON BARTZ vs. Jeff Tung, Beg. Final is streaming NOW!!

Live from Table 1!

Author: van_can_foos Reply #16 Posted: Jan 23 2009 12:51PM

Now called Rookie Singles on the next table - won't see that one I guess.

Jeff won the first match already 2-straight. Too bad no-one there to cheer for him in person.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #17 Posted: Jan 23 2009 2:36PM

He had a huge fan base online. Earl, myself, Eric Dunn, Cortez, Johnny.

Craig won rookie doubles.

Author: Aged Whine & Cheese Reply #18 Posted: Jan 23 2009 3:07PM

Craig won Rookie doubles or singles? Earlier the thread said he was in the final of rookie singles.

Author: van_can_foos Reply #19 Posted: Jan 23 2009 3:10PM

BOTH won!

Craig Rookie singles
Jeff Beginner singles (MEATNUT)

UI for showing the tourney results sucks. So much scrolling. Not tied to window size so expanding your window doesn't help. Damned awful.

Author: Tongue180 Reply #21 Posted: Jan 24 2009 2:08AM

Thanks for all the support. Me and Craig appreciate it... helps to know that people (especially Earl) are supporting us from back home.

Congrats to Moya for winning designated mixed

Lots of news today... Craig continued to kick ass in a bunch of events resulting in him being booted from beginner doubles...

Some drama in Amateur singles... Craig had his match for 4th or better and it went to a 3rd recall. As far as the rules go, this is a forfeit of one game (as far as I know). The person showed up and asked if he was down a game, Craig said lets just play it straight anyways. He insisted that those were the rules and he played down a game and lost 2-1. Later Craig got called back and was told that the 3rd recall wasn't a forfeit and they had to play a 3rd game which Craig lost. Pretty lame...

Anyways moving onto the most important matter... Who thinks pecan pie goes with vanilla ice cream?

Craig and Jeff beat Beine and Stewart in Open Doubles. That's pretty darned good (despite it appearing to be the only match they won).
Congrats to all.

Congrats to all the Canadian players who played in Kentucky this past weekend. From what I can tell from the stats you all played very well.

Good job everyone.

Foosball here locally is pretty poor. The best players keep eating their young. I hope you all keep building on your successes in Kentucky and in France.

Go Canada Go.

Was a good tournament till the last day when in retrospect we should have flown out on Monday since we didn't get back to Vancouver till 4am.

We were going to be playing for king seat in AM Doubles but had to forfeit out to make our flight.

I struggled to hit longs all week, and my arm was almost completely dead by Friday.

Out of curiosity was my rookie singles final not streaming at all, I know me and Jeff started our finals at the same time but my second match started when Jeff's match ended.

I wont be out to Soho for 3 weeks though, I'm heading off to sunny Mexico.

Author: Nelson Reply #27 Posted: Jan 26 2009 10:41PM

That's too bad you had to forfeit Craig, I'm sure you guys would have won. Good work Jeff and Craig

Author: van_can_foos Reply #28 Posted: Jan 27 2009 12:50AM

Wow Craig that forfeit situation sucks. That was a good finish anyways: 3rd in Am Doubles for a 'Beginner'(?) team. But really too bad you couldn't play it out.

Regarding the streaming, they went to your match as soon as you started playing the second set. Right after Jeff's was done they showed a wide shot of table 1 with a bit of you in the foreground. None of us knew the score though, until we saw you shake and flip the coin for second set, WooHoo. BTW neither of your matches had Jim doing PBP. There were no close-ups on 3-bar shots either. I don't think they did either of those things until Fri night's matches.

Since you won't be at Soho for a while I gotta add a couple things while I remember:

Just as you were finishing your first match, Craig (and shaking hands and flipping) the audio was coming from only table 1, even though they were showing video of table 2. Players didn't realize that everyone online could eavesdrop on any conversation around table 1. After Jeff double-dipped Brandon Bartz and the two of them had a friendly exchange, Tony Spredeman came over to console his buddy (Brandon). He had obviously been watching and Tony preceded to breakdown the match, including Jeff's game. Pretty cool, but sorry Jeff I don't remember the details.

During your match Craig I recall you just KILLING the guy (Mike Ryan) with an unrelenting 5-bar attack. In 2 games it seemed like that was half your goals. And a couple of your left hooks were as good as I've ever seen anyone do them. One of the funniest things I remember on the chat was everyone agreeing that Mike wasn't covering the hacks very well and then 'zekendestroy' said: Mike needs to change this D...how about giving the guy a free wall.

Congrats again guys, and Moya too! BTW, what did you do with your tables?

Author: Chipfoos Reply #29 Posted: Jan 27 2009 11:10AM

Congratulations to both of you for playing so well. Craig, I saw your last match and it seemed you shut down your opponent's 3bar shot. He had a few quick shots from his 3 but managed to compete by scoring with his 2bar. 'Zekendestroy' made a comment about your zone, and how he loved "killing it". I remember that your opponent actually made a comeback, mostly using his 2bar. In the last game you used left hooks which probably frustrated your opponent. During that game, you must have scored three or four goals from the 5bar. Smart playing and good win!

rookie?beginner? haha congrats, btw vanilla ice cream will b good with any type of pie ,but warm apple pie is tried tested and true.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #31 Posted: Jan 27 2009 1:53PM

Yea, you guys both played good. You had a large local crew watching and cheering. The 5 bar smash method was getting some cheers, as well as Tung's pull kick.

Author: Tongue180 Reply #32 Posted: Jan 27 2009 2:02PM

Yeah I was really nervous in that final. Brandon and Spredeman met last night playing together in the Pro-Am. I didn't have much of a long pull kick on that table, but it was easy enough to shoot cut-backs. So I just kept doing that and every time-out he would go talk to Spredeman, and I thought for sure he would tell him to start blocking the short pull-kicks. But he never did so I managed to squeak through it.

The highlight of Criag's 5 bar antics was against Beine and Stewart. He pulled a few left hooks out but in the 2nd or 3rd game he decided to catch one instead of letting it go through. It was just as fast and loud but a perfect catch on the 3-bar. Kind of weirded them out, I remember the forward looking up and me trying to figure out if it was intentional.

Craig, do you want to sell your table?

Author: The Next One. Reply #34 Posted: Feb 16 2009 6:16AM

Thinking back on it now, Craig getting removed from beginner is wrong of them. At the Worlds let let pro-master's enter the rookie (lowest) division there.
