Never posted anything on a personal level but here I go.
I'm putting laminate flooring in the games room thanks to Sammy. My friend says he can do everything except the edges. He doesn't know how to do that properly.
Is it that hard to do the edges? (measure and voila?)
does anyone know how to do this?, anyone know someone who can do this for me?
Gerry, I have a feeling you might know.

it is not really hard to do. start by lining up the laminate in the center of the room and work towards the edges. there you just leave a bit of a gap (approx. 5 mm, or depending on the product just as much so you can still put the last piece in). The gap then gets covered up by a molding strip.
good luck :)

Why don't you get Mats Sundin to help you install the flooring Dave? It's not like he is bust doing anything else of value these days...
He has kind of reminded me a little of Vladimir Krutov. Just swap the like of hot dogs for poker!
I just installed my new Tornado table. Why don't you come down to try it out Dave? Maybe Mats and Vladimir can come by as well so we can play doubles...
Ha ha.
Freddy PS Good luck with the flooring.

Let me fix my typo before Tim does.

Dave, I've never done this type of job, but here's a youtube tutorial, FWIW. (and some Q&A from the comments that might help)

(BTW, if you can't get Sundin, pehaps some of your Detroit players will chip in to help you. They look to be having their yearly rest period right now, saving energy for the playoff run)

Gruntol5: Lowes told me to leave a 0.5 inch gap round the edges. I did that. But that's too much. Bad advice. The 0.5 inch quarter round barely covers the edge - of course. Do they really imagine that the laminate will increase in dimensions by 1 inch due to temperature/humidity?
DominickDiy: Hi, yes laminate floor can and will shrink and expand to some degree. However I do understand what your saying, I like to leave a 1/4 inch cap on each end installed a 1/2 quarter round or 5/8 base trim will cover up nicely. In your case where the floor has been installed already just use 3/4 quarter round. That should do the trick..
Regards... Dominick
Gruntol5: Thanks. I managed to get away with 1/2 inch quarter round - in some cases by the skin of my teeth. Fortuneately, my gaps were slightly less that 1/2 inch and I tested a piece of quarter round at each end piece to ensure coverage. But it was no thanks to Lowes! I think 3/4 round would be clumsy looking. I won't make that mistake again.

gatoradeboy1234: I have a question,do you have to take off the side moldings on the bottom of the walls, before installing the laminate flooring?
DominickDiy: You can remove the base trim and then reinstall or much better would be to leave the old trim in place and add 3/4 - 1/4 round to cover up your floor edges. Tip- paint or stain before installing.

Just throw the sheets of laminate on the floor and hope they magically fit together. This works fine for 1 in 1,936,786,000,000,000,000 installations. I'm sure you'll be the lucky one Dave.

may i suggest gold color shag rug instead? chick dig it
|

Interesting use of the singular form of chick there Shinhacker. I'm sure there is one chick who digs gold colour shag rug - of course, she's probably 65 and lost in the 1960s.

|
Tip: There's no need to trim the shag at the walls. Instead, simply bend and staple it right up the walls.
