U R correct!!!

There IS nobody in the game today who compares to Gretzky!!!

lol

Author: The Next One. Reply #6 Posted: Apr 24 2009 3:27AM

Yzerman won a mvp voted by the players and has won the Selke.

*Just one thing for the big guy he has Gretzky didn't have*

.......To make a long story short Yzerman is the best all around hockey player. Yeup, he sure is.

Author: .Garry Reply #7 Posted: Apr 24 2009 9:35AM

David, David, David.

You aren't seriously saying that Yzerman, although a great player is/was better than Gretzky, are you???

All around play does imply defence and offence, and although a great talent like Gretzky was never sent out to "shut down" another player, putting him on the ice made the other team switch from their offensive players to a checking line(which didn't work anyways) which is a good way to shut down the other teams.

NHL RECORDS

NOTE ::::: Wayne Gretzky Holds & Shares (61) Records ::::::
If you want to consider all around, during his time Trottier was widely considered the best and won more cups than Gretzky or Yzerman. Messier was an all time leader and WAS also a shut down center. Listening to "the experts" the only player here -Gretzky-Yzerman-Trottier-Messier- ever mentioned in the "top 10 all time" discussion is Gretzky, although they are all fantastic players in there own ways.

You mean the best player ever wasn't Vladimir Krutov? When he was a Canuck he led the league in hot dogs eaten per goal! I think that he even won the Oscar Meyer trophy for it.

Honestly, if you get a chance and you love hockey try to see the game the oilers beat the islanders for the cup the first time back in 84. I got it from the public library in edmonton. The islanders were a tuff team that had already won the cup 4 times and the oil well, that game is start to finish a high-lite reel.

Sorry as much as i love Mr. 99 OV is the most prolific player to hit the ice in a long while.

I have noticed Messier is loved in Alberta, but I think he's over rated.

Author: The Next One. Reply #13 Posted: Apr 28 2009 9:21AM

IT would be perfect if the Oilers of today got Wayne to be their coach. That would definately bring back some luster to their organization. Now that's an idea! OR if the Oilers really want to shoot themselves in the foot, they would hired Messier.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #14 Posted: Apr 28 2009 12:21PM

Messier is one of my all time favourite players!

The moose baby.

Author: The Next One. Reply #15 Posted: Apr 28 2009 12:44PM

I'm just saying,

FOr someone who was titled by Wayne as the greatest leader of all time...He couldn't take the canucks and then the rangers again to the playoffs. If He was all that i think he would at least take his team to the playoffs no?

Author: Red Pepper Reply #16 Posted: Apr 28 2009 1:02PM

Messier won the cup with the Rangers. The Canucks media destroyed him, never gave him a chance. They are doing the same now to Sundin.

Author: The Next One. Reply #17 Posted: Apr 28 2009 1:35PM

lol, ok

Author: Red Pepper Reply #18 Posted: Apr 28 2009 1:36PM

1994 Stanley Cup, Rangers and Messier. I watched the whole run.

Author: Superfly Reply #19 Posted: Apr 28 2009 1:51PM

So you will remember when they counted his goal even though a fan (in ny) threw a puck onto the ice in the same area as he scored from.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #20 Posted: Apr 28 2009 1:55PM

I remember, but not all the details. Didn't both pucks go in? Many years ago...

Author: Chaos_Plus_Three Reply #21 Posted: Apr 28 2009 2:26PM

I've seen Messier win a game all by himself, and in such a fashion, plus the only person to win the cup as captain on two different teams. That guy is one of the all time best players to ever have played the game, but of course you need a number of talented people on your team if your going to win the cup.

Author: ziggypop Reply #22 Posted: Apr 28 2009 10:58PM

Ol' Wayne dose not have the best record as a coach. Not sure if that would be the best for the Oilers. To many expectations and the media and fans alike would kill him.
