Topic: Weekly Singles Tourney
|
|
Starting this week I am going to be running a weekly singles tourney.
This week it will be Wednesday August 28/09.
Each week it will hopefully be Wednesdays, but I may have to switch it occasionally to Thursdays(depending on my work schedule). Same particulars to Will's & Chad's weekly dyps etc- Be there by 7 to register-starts at 7:30-costs $5(unsure if Gateway will be throwing in Gateway $'s, but will let everyone know).
I think that this is important for anyone that plans on playing in the October Nationals-which is 6 weeks away. We play alot of doubles but singles is a very different game, and this would be the chance to improve your game!
I look forward to seeing everyone out- but in no way am I trying to take away from the Tuesday foos night- this is meant to enhance everyone's game in addition to doubles. It might seem like alot, but anyone who has played in a tourney can attest to the fact that stamina is an important part of a foos weekend- and this is your chance to improve yours.

Will
Would you be able to bring some extra 8 and 16 draw sheets Tuesday?
I'm having trouble printing them off at work- and I don't have a printer at home... guess I should invest $50 and get one/lol
Thanks

Nice work Gary!! I will most certainly get some charts printed for you on Tuesday.

How do you plan on making this fair for the lower ranked players? Is this going to be handicapped?

"How do you plan on making this fair for the lower ranked players? Is this going to be handicapped? "
No this is going to be straight up. How is a BYP or a straight draw DYP fair for the lower ranked players?... They have to come out(if they choose) and play better players to get better. The singles and doubles round robin in October is not handicapped- should it be??? I believe that handicapping for Vifa leagues is cool but there has not been a demand for it here, it may come, but I am doing this for 5 weeks not long term.
BTW-ask Roger & Shane how they enjoyed last week...lol Giving up a 2 spot to 7 or a 3 spot to 8 and 1st drop in each game is almost insurmountable.
I am not trying to eliminate lower ranked players from coming out, but I believe that the thirst for learning from the foos scene here will hopefully bring a good turnout for everyone to work on there game.
Are you asking for a spot???

We already have one tournament a week that is geared towards beginner players. I believe that if I can focus on trying to keep lower ranked players interested then it is pretty fair to have one night a week that is not handicapped or pro/am.

It's not so bad getting destroyed by you guys on a continuous basis, I've found I get the best pointers after, which if I heed these words make me better. I know if I keep working on the 5 bar sooner or later it's going to click, then who knows I may have some game. Lol
What your guys are talking about is prep for a major tournament, you don't coddle no one, those that see the importance will come out and play, those that don't should come out and watch. You can learn a lot from just watching good play. There are enough pick up games after to satisfy everyone, I know you pro's don't always like just playing us, so it all evens out.
Did I score or what?

Good points Rick-coming from an up and comer on the foos scene.
Your point about the 5 bar is incredibly accurate. I believe that I have stated to just about every rookie that starting with the 5 bar is key-getting the ball more than your opponent is a huge part of winning foosball. Last week as an example I won every 5 bar war except for our matches with Jeff & Chris...and surpisingly Shawn & I won every match...except for our matches with Jeff & Chris.
I don't believe that many of the pros don't like playing newbies-the smart ones see the big picture...if we don't help develop and give pointers for the new foosers to improve their game, we will have nobody to play and challenge us(which a year ago was the scene). Some pros though just like playing other pros because they play so little, they want a challenge when they do play. It's kind of a catch 22.
The one thing I will reiterate though is this new crop of foosers does have a thirst to learn & improve, which the pros that do help with tips etc. enjoy. Our tips don't fall on deaf ears.

Are we going to be putting netfoos points on the line for this? Its your call but I sure hope so.
