Is there any live streaming video from worlds this year?
|
|
Cool, thanks Earl ... do you know if Dave beat Mares in forward shootout?
|
|
I'm not sure ... but it looks like Dave came back from the B side to win Amateur Singles ... WOW.
Way to go Dave
|
|
Close, John.
It appears that Dave is in the finals, coming from the losers, but yet to play. That match (Dave vs Ryan Knapton) is showing in the current list of "pending matches". They may even play tomorrow at this point, who knows.
Apparently most of the online brackets are a mess - but that event seems to be accurate.
GO DAVE - KICK ASS!!

Yeah, i just noticed that. Hope they are saving it for a Pit Table so that it will be on the DVD.

I'm pretty sure all the final matches will be in the pits. But if it's played on a table other than #1 it won't have Jim's PBP. They may record the other pit tables with a single static camera. I think that's how it works now.

Wish more of you came down for this. It was great.
1. Played Open doubs with Moya, thanks Moya, you are the Queen of Foos in our books no doubt. The crowd we had when we played Kathy Adkinson and Liz Taylor was crazy. Largest crowd for a non pit table match by far. Tommy and Fredrico were standing there watching us, it was super intense. These women play like men, no joke. They'll cream most of us, I mean totally work us.
2. Playing for team Canada was special. Got to play a singles match race to 7 win by 2 against Tony on center stage, held my own for a while, till he did his sweet ass quick arsenal. Thanks for giving me the opportunity Eric. Our strategy was to protect Kane and Mario from Tony and I might have a chance against him in a race to 7, I could have slopped him out or something. Everyone who was a part of the qualifier equally deserved to be a part of the team. I barely qualified. It was Will Fred Quan and I for the last spot, Will let in 32 total goals, Fred and I let in 29. I beat Fred in the head to head, so that is why I was selected. The majority voted Goodman on as the sub. Moya and Audrey's doubles was the only match Canada won against the US.
3. Ryan Knapton is a real solid am player, but he is no Dave Ahn i'll tell ya, but in the end he was the worlds number 1 am, ahead of me. I lost the match because I was listening to too many peoples advice on how to beat him, didn't play my game. For me, I should have just ignored all of them. Keys to the match...He hacked 2 goals every game. 1,2,and 3. you'd think i'd learn by the 3rd game but no... Eric and Moya showed me what i have to do with that for next time. Thank you.
The road to the finals, well I got put in the loser side by Zack Zeigler(sp)? He was the number 2 seated Am player. Really had to settle down again and play one match at a time, didn't think to far ahead, last time I did that Zack took me out. Good news was it was still 2/3 on the loser's side. Played Zack again for the loser's bracket and won. They wanted to play my finals that night but I requested them to post pone till the next day and they did. It's better that way especially if your in 4 or 5 events that day. Play fresh.
I played my the big Saturday with maybe an hour of sleep that is why i did so poorly in all the other events. Yes this is an excuse.
5. The Tables The tables again had issues. Players were shooting their shots and the balls were coming off the table and hitting the rods and going wide and high. Some tables the men were too high off the surface. Fredrico saw this and proved it with a penny test. The good tables well i forgot how this works but some had 2 pennies from the end of the man to the surface and some had room for 3 pennies. Tons of players including tony and fred, jeff and myself kept hitting corners and rods. I don't think im explaining this correctly but i think yall kinda get it.
6. The winners of am doubs were a boy and a girl that were 17 years old. I took them out in am singles but I tell ya we all better step up our games or they'll surpass us.
7. I'm starting to make some noise in the scene now, I had 5 strong semi's ask me to play forward for them in Open. 2 pro's ask me to play with them in Pro Am, and the reason is I come out to these events. Everyone should try and make as many of these events as you can. It's the only way to grow and get your names out there.
Dave.

Wonderful synopsis Dave - thanks for sharing it with us.

Jeff was partying every single night, I know that is why you didn't do as well as you did last year bud. Everytime I seen Jeff, he had a beverage in his hand.
|
|
True, I like to party.
That being said, the one event I was focusing on with my partner was Open Dubs. We had a hearbreaking loss, and it really stayed with me until I was basically out of every other event. One loss practically destroyed my weekend. I felt good playing in the Pro-Am, which was my last event, but had another tough loss there against a beatable opponent, and that basically summed up my weekend.
I think I was 1-5 in all of my matches that went meat ball. Definately didn't close to well.
As far as the roller hitting the top of the goal, I didn't really have that problem too often. This mostly affected jerk roller/pin shooters (tony for eg.). Guys who used a smooth rock generally didn't have this problem.
Tables overall played good, little problems such as different balls then HoF, some tables had the old 2 bars, some had dead walls, black sides seemed to play better then the yellow side, and the ball coming up and hitting the top of the box or the rod for some players.
I learned a ton of new shit, that was my only real positive for the tournament as a whole.

After Mario beat Fred, Fred went and talked to his wife right after and discussed what had all happened. Then he wrote on a paper swearing that he'd come all the way back and win the tournament. Then he signed it and put it on the live stream at the end of the evening.
He alsomst did it.... crazy

Dave,
In case you didn't know, you got a little bit of screen time during one of the free internet broadcasts - and the clip is archived here...
http://www.netfoos.tv/on_demand_free
During the Thursday 8pm report they showed most of 1 game of you're match against Mares in FSO. They were doing foosball trivia at the time so there isn't mutch talk about the match - but it's still cool to see. They didn't even update on who won later - that's why Jonny, Gerry & I were talking about that specific match earlier in this thread.
The total clip is 1 hour long, so just click about 1 inch in front of the mid-way point of the playback bar to save time (you're part starts about 20-25 minutes in).
