Topic: anyone interested in going to the World Cup?
By Sept 30, we need to tell the ITSF if Canada is going to be sending a team for the 2010 World Cup.
Is anyone interested in paying their own way to France and representing Canada?
We have our selection process all worked out, but barring that if none of those players can go, do we have enough other players who would maybe fill the remaining spots?
Just post that you would be interested. This is not a commitment, but just trying to get a feeling if there's any interest at all.

I know this doesn't help for this year, but how about having a qualifying tournament next year, wherein instead of having the top spots paid out, they get all or a portion of their way paid towards worlds next year?
Hmmmm...unless the $$$ were really huge, there would have to be several regional qualifiers so players wouldn't have to shell out airfare + expenses in order to qualify. Otherwise the 'funding' that you'd won would be offset by the $$ you just spent to qualify.
Is that the 2010 World Championships in Nantes in January? Otherwise, I don't see a 2010 World Cup in ITSF tournament listings.
We have talked about doing that before, I still think the only way to make that work is with large sponsors. It's not too far out of reach.
For what it's worth, I went to the world cup in France last January. It was the best expeience ever and I highly recomend going if you can, it only cost about $1400 for the trip also.
Speaking of qualified players.... I noticed that we get an extra wild card spot in the world championships if we have 500 members. We are only 140 away, maybe we can hit 500 this weekend if Ed sign up every player including the "beginner" tournament. It's worth trying anyway.
If I win $1400+, I'm comfortable committing to attending Nantes :)
I am interested in going again also - depending on how much flights are etc. I'll know better nearer to the deadline
We should hold a tournament, to pay for the top 3 to qualify no? somehow, i think we can pull it off no?
Dave - this tournament pretty much does, if you finish in the top 3 for open singles and doubles you will get enough of a payout to cover the expenses of a trip to france.
k seeing that there was at least some interest, i've let the ITSF know that we're going to be sending a men's team to the World Cup.
Hey Eric,
Do you know if there's no women's team, can they play on the men's?
That's a good question. I'm not sure. i'll have to look into it and get back to you.
Considering going to France?
Doubt it, just more curious than anything.
yea, i read through that doc as well, and didnt find anything conclusive. so i've sent an email to the ITSF - will let you know when i get a response.
The answer from the ITSF was: No, women cannot play on the mens world cup
Sooo freaking stupid. Not that I didn't expect that, but not like there's a lot of women in general to pull from. The least they could do would be to have a rule to keep the women that do play, playing.
Ah well, doesn't really matter to me. Just generally speaking.
Oh and thanks for looking into that as well, guys.
