Author: foosghost Original Message Posted: Oct 13 2009 11:23PM

The following players have until Nov 15th to let TSAC know if they will claim their spot on the World Cup team, and be able to pay their own way to France and represent Canada in the ITSF World Cup of Table Soccer, in Nantes, France, Jan 6-10

Eric D
Kane G
Mario A
Larry
Mario I
Joey R
Eric G
Brian L
Dave A
Andy U
Nhu T

If you are on this list, and know for sure that you will not be able to attend, then let us know that as well, as that greatly effects who has first choice.

Feel free to respond here, or email dunneri@shaw.ca

Even if you are not on this list, you can submit your name as well, and on the day after Nov 15 we'll apply the ranking system as determined by the results from the Tornado World Championships, AQBB Provincial Championships, and the Canadian National Championships, as outlined at: http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/forum/topics/tsac-exec-vote-how-should-will

There are 7 spots available

as players respond, i'll keep posting an updated ranking list

Sorry when I said there are 7 spots available that was slightly in error. We can send 9 players. But only 7 can play each round. We need a minimum of 5 to form a team

Author: The Next One. Reply #4 Posted: Oct 15 2009 4:52AM

Eric, what is the prize money here, do you have a payout list?

Author: moyatielens Reply #5 Posted: Oct 15 2009 10:45AM

Hahah..Oh Dave, Dave, Dave...

Haven't you been paying attention?? All this was just to pay money to be able to compete for your country. There is no money involved. You pay for a glorified foos trip.

That's what pisses me off about all this dress code business. It's for nothing. Foosers spend all this money competing for something that is virtually worthless. (Now, now, don't you foosers get yer knickers in a knot, I say this in the monetary sense.) It's pretty ridiculous if you actually really think about it.

Anyway, whaddo I care? I couldn't go even if I wanted to. Another, super stupid thing. (noooooo, I'm not bitter at all. Damn, I'm starting to sound Dudraesque.) :p

Bitterness is the voice of life.

Author: foosghost Reply #7 Posted: Oct 15 2009 12:01PM

While at Tornado Worlds I spoke with Farid at length about the possibility of adding some type of payouts to the ITSF World Cup / World Championships so that at least players might stand a chance at recooping some travel costs - and his basic reasoning is that they already given out so much money in packages for those men and women that qualify (24 ITSF points, and 25 top finishers from the major ITSF sanctioned events) - it adds up to around 30,000 Euro and i can partially agree with his reasoning.

They've already paid out to those players that are most likely to win - and that its not about the money that can be won, but about representing your country, and competing on the highest stage that table soccer has to offer at this time.

He did relent a bit and was going to investigate the possibility of awarding more tables to the top 2-3 teams - something that obviously comes at no cost to the ITSF, but to the table manufacturers - which is smart.

So Dave to answer your question, no there's no prize money to be won - but there's also no entry fee - you just have to get yourself to the event, and pay for your stay. you've earned a spot on the team, and its yours if you want it. If you do come i can guarntee you will be amazed at the show/production that the ITSF puts on - and will be worth more in memories/pride than any amount of money will bring - let alone how amazing it is to play in that environment - it's almost impossible to describe - and nothing like what you've currently experienced.

There's also a very good chance you'd end up on TV - B-)

ok ok...*keeps repeating to self* "I will not be bitter, I will not be bitter." :p

It's actually a really really awesome experience, as anyone who's gone can attest. You meet some really amazing people as well.

You might drive yourself insane (or the very least...to drink) trying to play on the other tables tho.

Pretty cool thing overall. If you can afford it, you should really go.

*goes back to being bitter* Wuz short lived. :p

Thank you Moya.

Don't think i can afford it this year Eric, unless something comes up where i can spare 2g's.

and fyi my next major, i will place at least top 20 in open singles mark em.

Author: The Next One. Reply #11 Posted: Oct 15 2009 4:47PM

just my response to the ning site, and how the discussion put me at the bottom of the list with goodman, to be on the team. Can't wait for next hofc results.

Author: The Devil Reply #12 Posted: Oct 15 2009 6:51PM

Top 20 in singles doesn't mean shit. I know because I have gotten top 20 in Open singles. I also got at a top 10 at Colorado in OS. You are going to have to get Top 3 or 5 to get any respect...

Plus, Goodman is a better player than you.

Peace yo.

You still suck.

Author: foosghost Reply #16 Posted: Oct 20 2009 1:36AM

I'm not sure what's going to happen here yet, but i was just reading the ITSF website,

http://www.itsfworldtour.com/index.php?id=228

and we're supposed to have the names of our world cup players, and national champions in by Oct 31 (which is a full 2 weeks before the previous date i posted of Nov 15th).

So - we might to have to bump up the cut off date - but there's a chance we might not have to as to the ITSF was supposed to let all the countries know if they are able to enter a team into the World Cup on Oct 15th (5 days ago) so they might extend that deadline.

I'll keep everyone posted - but if you can please post if you are able to make it or not, so we can get some further clarity here.

Also, Canada gets to send an additional doubles team in the ITSF World Championships event - this is in addition to our doubles National Champions - seeing as we did not define a method (sigh) for how this wild card spot was going to be filled, I'm going to suggest that this be selected by the ITSF Committee.

The spots are most likely going to be given to players that are on the world cup team already (since they are already there), and we're likely not going to be able to send more than 7 players. So possibly this might give some extra incentive to players considering taking a spot on the world cup team, if they also can play in doubles in the world championships.

Author: foosghost Reply #17 Posted: Oct 22 2009 11:52AM

Canada has been accepted as one of the 32 teams that can enter the Men's World Cup.

I've talked with the ITSF, and they'll allow us to enter our names by Nov 15th - at the latest. So everything has to be bumped up a week - So by Nov 8th, please let us know, then on Nov 15th, we'll announce who the team members are.

But please let us know as soon as possible if you'll be attending.

Also given that Mario A and Dave A has both opted out - there will be spots open likely on a first come first serve basis after Nov 8th. So if you'd like to come please let us know!!

This might help with attendance for me and others

Author: The Next One. Reply #20 Posted: Oct 26 2009 5:37AM

cause if the guys on the origional list can allgo, the team seems like it would be the best team canada has put together so far...

Author: foosghost Reply #21 Posted: Oct 26 2009 12:39PM

So Dave, then are you wanting back on this list? Based on your previous post, you said you could not make it. So this might effect who gets first choice next - in your case, it just opens up the spot - so not as critical, but if someone comes along, and commits to going, you could lose your spot.

And yes, that's a very good idea about watching for good flight deals. I've setup a Kayak daily email to let me know of flight prices from various departues (seattle, vancouver, victoria) to various arrival destinations on that end (paris, nantes, london). as often its best to fly into lets say paris, and then take the train to nantes. Last year i flew into London, took the bullet (highspeed) train to paris, then another train to nantes, it was quite a journey.

Joey R cannot go - so

Players in ( ) are those that could still earn a spot if those above them do not claim it

Author: foosghost Reply #23 Posted: Oct 28 2009 3:13AM

oh by the way if anyone was born in 1958 or before, then you could qualify to play in Senior events at the ITSF World Championships (doubles and singles) and you could play on the World Cup team as well.

and a partial update as to the status of the World Cup team.

Larry P has claimed his spot.
Mario I, Nhu T, Brian L, Kane G, Andy U have all gotten back to me and are seriously considering claiming their spot. Plus one more player has told me they would go, if any spots were available.

I'm pretty much going -the only way i can see me not going is if we are not able to put together a world cup team.. not sure i'd want to go all that way just to play doubles.

Author: foosghost Reply #24 Posted: Nov 4 2009 10:25PM

another update:

Brian L and Andy U have both let me know that they cannot make it.. so that means the list is now as follows:

Players in ( ) are those that could still earn a spot if those above them do not claim it

2 From Open Doubles at Tornado Worlds
Eric D
Kane G
(Jeff A, Tony T, Fred Q)

1 From Open Singles at AQBB Provincials
Larry P claimed

2 From Open Singles at Tornado Worlds
(none) - these spots are now open for application - but Dave might want to be put back on the list

2 From Open Doubles at Canadian Nationals
tie between Matt B, Darrel P, Jack H, and Nathan S

2 From Open Singles at Canadian Nationals
Mario I
Nhu T
(Garry B, Tuan P, Nelson S, Paul G, Matt B, ...)

There's pretty much only 3 days left, so everyone please let me know if they will be claiming their spots or not.

E,

Count me out in case you're wondering. Too busy. Good luck to those committed though.

Author: The Next One. Reply #26 Posted: Nov 5 2009 6:50AM

There should be a certain amount of funds put aside from profits to send some of us to these types of events from all the money put into playing games over the course of a year. I ain't attacking anyone at all, just saying, an event with no payouts, but having a rare opportunity to represent your country and missing out because of financial reasons is sad to say the least. There are at least 10 players from vancouver alone thats skill level is there to represent Canada, and none of them can go becuase the trip would set them back financially to a point where they would be eating mac and cheese for weeks. I think it's time to change the way some things are run. If promoters in each district say just sponsored or put aside $500 for a deserving player, we would definately have a full roster to send to these magnificent events. Promoters of foosball generally do love the game of foosball and want it to expand.

With that said, who would like to sponsor me to go to France lol

Author: moyatielens Reply #27 Posted: Nov 5 2009 10:37AM

>If promoters in each district say just sponsored or put aside $500 for a deserving player, we would definately have a full roster to send to these magnificent events.

Ummm, not to feel attacked, Dave, but I'm just wondering which area of our budget would you like us to take that $500 from? Our kids hockey budget, their soccer budget, food, clothing?? I'm just sayin, people seem to think that the very little profits there is, (don't forget the money is split with the location) is just a bonus and somehow free money that isn't spoken for. I hope one day you all have a business that is run for nothing more than philanthropy.

Good luck with your sponsor.

Author: domi nate Reply #28 Posted: Nov 5 2009 11:23AM

I'll sponsor you. Does anyone have change for a button?

Author: Aged Whine & Cheese Reply #29 Posted: Nov 6 2009 2:55AM

Well, if you took it out of the kids' hockey budget, then you would have additional savings in the dental bills category of your budget.

Oh wait, I'm thinking back to the good old days when you could spot the hockey players at school by the big toothless grin.

Author: foosghost Reply #30 Posted: Nov 9 2009 9:49PM

Ok the 8th has come and gone.

So Larry and Eric D have claimed their spots (but I'm only going if we have a world cup team)
Mario I is likely going
Nhu T is in same boat as me
and Barry Willick has told me he would go if there's spots open.
Barry please confirm your participation

so now it's open season. On a first come first serve basis. If you want to come the spot is yours. We have room for at least 4 more. Even if you've told me you couldn't come before and something has changed you can join now but we only have 5 days left and then I have to enter the names for our team

Kane is still a possibility as well

Author: Barry Reply #31 Posted: Nov 10 2009 12:31AM

Eric, I'm in.... as long as I won't be going alone.

Author: foosghost Reply #32 Posted: Nov 10 2009 1:01AM

excellent!

Author: foosghost Reply #33 Posted: Nov 12 2009 4:35AM

Sorry to say i'm going to have to take my name off the list. I'm not going to be able to go.

Kane gave me final word, and he's not going either.

Next in line to be able to play in doubles for the World Championships (of those that said they were interested in going) are Barry W, Nhu T and Mario I.

There were others that finished higher in doubles at the Canadian Nationals, and i'll list them here just incase it gives them incentive to attend as we said the highest placing canadians in doubles that were able to go to France, would be Canada's National Champions

5 Matt B / Darrel P
5 Jack H / Nathan S
7 Paul G / Jeff X
7 Tuan P / Nelson S
9 Christian D / Garry B
9 Mario I / Nhu T
9 Sean L / Hugo T
9 Barry W / Ted A

There's no longer an order for getting on the World Cup team, it's first come first serve, but there's still an order for who gets to play in the World Championships representing Canada as our National Champions and wild card team.

Please everyone let me know by Nov 14th if you're wanting to go. I have to enter the names of all our players going to France by Nov 15th.

Author: foosghost Reply #34 Posted: Nov 12 2009 12:40PM

Mario I. has also posted on the TSAC board that he won't be able to attend either.

It's looking pretty bleak for Canada to have any representation at this years World Cup / World Championships

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #35 Posted: Nov 24 2009 8:09PM

It looks like I will be going this year.

Hoping to cheer Team Canada on whoever that turns out to be. Let me know if anyone who is going wants to stay a couple of extra days and see Paris or London or both.

Author: foosghost Reply #36 Posted: Nov 25 2009 12:25AM

I've informed the ITSF that no one from Canada will be able to attend the world cup / world championships this year

it'll just be you Fred sorry to say

Author: ButHeDoesntLookAsian Reply #37 Posted: Nov 25 2009 12:48AM

No probs. There to show the new Fireball table anyway and invite others to visit China to play.

Maybe it will be possible in two years when I am a senior (born 1960).

It will be interesting to see if Canada can get a team there regularly given the dollars involved. I know that I am trying to convince the Chinese players to go to Tornado worlds instead so they get more games in more events.

And with the U.S., if they win it again this year, then nothing left to prove to the world.

Make or break for ITSF in the next few years. I hope it survives because it has made things fun internationally.

OK, Seasons Greetings all. Happy Bah Humbug Tim. Ha ha...
