This Tuesday we did Open Doubles and No-Pro Doubles. There was a lot of talking points this week....
Sam and Tobin came in 4th, I'm not sure of this but it might be there best result in an open event so far. Both guys have really been stepping up there game in new ways recently. Sam specifically has taken his mental game to a new level - executing perfectly and playing calm under pressure. The amazing amount of blocks he made against Shane in the 3rd place match was great.
Speaking of picking up something quickly, Mike J went from looking scared of blocking my roller in the first match against them to blocking pretty much every shot in the second match. I'm not sure who's advice it was but someone showed him how to block me!
Rick and Lindsey won a few solid games also... one huge one was the win agianst Christian and Des. Although I didn't see it I was told Rick was a machine firing banks into the net from his two bar. I'm also not sure about this... but lindsey must have found a way to shut down Christians 5 bar.
Tom and Simon beat Ben and I in the kinseat match, they actually kind of took it to us in that one. The first game we got up 3-1 and then I couldn't catch a pass after that, even the slow ones that got through. Tom started shooting well and Simon just wouldn't let in any slop or even any of my shots that werent perfect. They came back to beat us 5-3 5-? but it wasn't very close.
Ben and I made it back through to the final by beating Mike and Shane in another pretty tough game - and played Simon and Tom agian, this time we kind of took it to them! Ben went up front and was passing nearly perfectly - actually almost 100% through the 5 games that we ended up playing with him up front. He shot really well too and we won the first two games, including a 5-0 game.
When we got to the last best of 3, the 3rd game, I foolishly opened it up by getting stuffed from my two bar, and Tom hit a pretty sick slingshot to go up 3-2 in that one. I think they won that won 5-3 in what ended up being quite a battle and a great game.
Also a huge congrats to Des and Darcy on taking the No-pro title. I didn't see any games (i was pretty busy right to the end of the night) but maybe someone else can post some details.
