Topic: 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5 at next tournament.

I have discussed with brian the possibility of changing the format for the first several rounds in the open events from 2 out 3 to 3 out 5.I am curious as to the thoughts of other open players on this particular issue. My feeling is that playing merely a 2 out 3 renders a result that does not allow for the most competitive play to come about,i.e.namely a fifth game and meatball scenario.Further, both open events begin on saturday which allows for an entire day to play for those who make it past the first several rounds. The longer the match, the more opportunity one has to draw on all aspects of one's game, like coming back from a 2-0 deficit, from not being able to score on your opponent one way to discovering another way in which to do just that. These things, among others, cannot be done in a 2 out of 3 match.I encourage comments and opinions from those planning to attend.

3 out of 5 is the way to go no doubt about it

My game sucks. I have no patience anymore to dissect my opponent's game. I vote for 1 ball.

it is 3 / 5 for the top 5 places. leave it the way it is. it's better to have more time to play with than less. this is better for the out of town players and keeping the tournament running smoothly. it's not like there's an abundance of tables.

I'm with Joe on this one and prefer 3/5

3 / 5 every match every event

I kinda prefer the 2/3 then 3/5 unless we have plenty of time.

So if time permits you would prefer 3/5.

Yes but I would hope to end the events as early as possible on Sunday too. I like the format as it is.

I agree that every event and every match should be 3/5 but I really think we should move toward a 4/7 format once you get into the money in each event. Finals will also have to be 5/9 to ensure no flukesies.

If I beat you in the first game it's 2/3 if you beat me it will be 5/9

For years we always had 3/5 in the open events no matter what position you were playing for on the winners side. If you were on the loser side then it went to 2/3 until you were playing for 5/6 or better. If the problem is time then cut back on the rookie matches. Make that a race to seven on both sides and make the SP 2/3 on both sides all the way through to the final. Seems like the open events always take one on the chin. We have only two events to play in not counting the DYP. SP have 4 to play in and the rookies have 6. I suggested once to have a pro only catagory (singles or doubles) so the pro player could play in more than two events. You have people driving in and flying in to this event and you want a 2/3 winners side? in open?
