Last night we did Singles and a DYP. Singles started around 730 and the DYP started after there was 6 people eliminated.

In Singles there was some tough opening round games. Darcy played really well against me. He scored really high percentage, but I think in the end I just had too many possesions for him to win.

Later on I saw most of Chad and Paul playing each other. Chad took the first game but Paul really battled back.

Garry played Roger in the b side, and after Rog was up 4-3 in the second game trying to close out Garry stepped it up with what he later called "just hacking away until it lands on my 3 bar". Garry won the game and closed out the third game.

Next up was Ben and Garry, although I only caught a few parts I know it was going back and forth. I would like to know who won the 5 bar in that one? Ben had shots to win in the third game but Garry again wouldn't let in that final goal.

Christian and I played for King Seat, and after Christian took a 4-3 lead in the second game he tried a hack that virtually ended up costing him the tournament. I came back to win largely relying in 2 bar banks and pickups on my 3.

Christian beat Garry and then we played the final which went similar to the kingseat game and I ended up taking the title.

In the DYP there was some tight matches including Uzair and Chris winning the first match in the final. Darcy and Christofff won the final game and won the $25 gateway bucks.

Results:
1st Will
2nd Christian
3rd Garry

DYP
1st Darcy and Christoff

Good writeup will... lets see a points update!

Author: Will Reply #2 Posted: Jul 1 2010 1:17PM

I'll do that as soon as I get home. I can look at the points from my phone but can't paste them into this site. I'm only 25 points back from Christian now! Hopefully he finally had his head turned over his shoulder!

Congrats Will

Roger actually had me down a game and 4-1, the next ball was a Roger special-then I called a time out(I'm pretty sure I stand a better chance playing my game than his)Coming back after 4 classic goals like that was hard but Roger posted out on a couple hit and hopes-and I stopped about 6 or 7 3 bar shots.

With Ben the games were awesome-high 5 bar execution on his part and mine(probably equal though...neither stopped the opponents passes) and a very high shooting percentage...until he was up 4-3 in the third game, then I made some big stops, and he misexecuted a couple shots and I got a couple lucky pickups. Ben's 5 bar is very patient(reminds me of playing the Calgary crew) nothing flashy but well done.

Would have liked to see Will vs Christian 1 or 2, but was either playing or had to leave. I have a hard time competing against Christian-seems like I always play him and it comes down to 1 key ball, and he always gets the possession or the break to win. My game against him is very vanilla, and I guess it takes some neopolatin!

That last list is a little off for a few people, mostly Darcy but also for everyone in the DYP. I had Darcy entered into that DYP as "extra" instead of his real user ID so his points didn't calculate correctly.

Here is the actual points:

Thanks Garry. Good job on moving back into the top 5 in points also.

Author: Will Reply #7 Posted: Jul 1 2010 10:26PM

That actually has me thinking of something... who is going to be the next person to move into the top 5 (if anyone) outside of this group...
Dunn, Christian 1364
Stranks, Will 1339
Edwards, Simon 1263
Lawrence, Shane 1228
Burgardt, Garry 1182
Penner, Roger 1172
McDonald, Tom 1158

Obviously with those guys whoever plays consistently and plays well could be in the top 5 at any given time, however no one else has been in the top 5 from about the 1 month point of the league.

Wilkins, Ben 1074
Luft, Carey 1006
Myszczyszyn, Tobin 962
Scaife, Darcy 953
Rupertus, Lindsey 918
Simeon, Jamie 915
Johnston, Mike 898
Djakovic, Christoff 878

There is your list of closest people that currently play and live in edmonton...

I agree with Will. By playing a lot and consistently the top five could see some new names. With ELO the more you play the more points you have a potential to earn. The race between Will and Christian is a good one as Will has only played in 4 events more than Christian and the points are tight. However Christians winning percentage is 73% vs Wills 62%.

Author: Will Reply #9 Posted: Jul 2 2010 3:37AM

Playing more does help, but playing well recently helps more... My last 8 tournament finishes are 1st 1st 2nd 1st 2nd 2nd 2nd 1st. It is pretty clear that my winning percentage in the last two months is really high, especially considering that 3 of the 2nd places I won the first match of the final but lost the second...

One tournament in the last two months we did a handicapped event which didn't count for points and I finished 5th, with Christain as my partner.

Although Christian won all the time for the first 6 months to a year of the tournaments I have been doing better recently which is why I am closer to catching him now.

The other advantage to playing a lot of foosball is that you are in tune with your game more. When Christain takes a month or two off then comes back it is easier for me to beat him than when he is on fire. When he is playing his best I think everyone in Edmonton knows he is virtually unbeatable. Hopefully the rest of western canada sees that soon!

Sometimes I can't help it Simon! lol. When I read my post again now I realized how good i really am

Author: S. Edwards Reply #13 Posted: Jul 3 2010 12:01AM

Well, you and Ben stll haven't beat me and Christian in an event yet! Maybe one day.

when are the four of us gonna play? We should pick a night next week.

Author: Will Reply #14 Posted: Jul 3 2010 2:55AM

Not that I want to argue over it, because you two do have really impressive results together, but we did take the kingseat match off you guys last tournament. You ended up winning but you can't say we have never beaten you!

Let's play this week. I can play most nights so it will depend on Bens work schedule. The 4 of us need to get together for some serious games to help us all take our games up another notch or two. At the next major one of our Edmonton teams needs to win.

Author: .Garry Reply #15 Posted: Jul 3 2010 10:42AM

If you end up needing a fourth I'm available.

Playing once in the last 4-5 weeks has hurt my game and could use the time on the table.

Let me know
