If we can make it work out for the number of players, we will do a Draw Your Team tonight, in other words if we have 16 or 20 players we will have 4 or 5 teams. We might make something work with one or two 3 person teams also. If we have a wacky number of players like 14 or 17 we will do a Pro/Am DYP.
I want to test out the format for the league night which is discussed on a different thread.
We will add in the $25 and all entry fee's to pay out one team only! Unfortunately there is no logical way to make this work out for points.

are there any chips involved?

That was a fun night...a LONG night-but fun nonetheless.
Good playing Karli $ Chris. Sorry we couldn't do better but I had a gimp hand-luckily we were able to play Will's team twice(j/k) and you two pulled out both tiebreakers.
I think Roger is developing another player to take over his "Roger's special" game...lol

I agree with Garry, I thought having the team atmoshpere added a little excitement to the event and playing with different people each time made it more interesting. Not to mention your guaranteed more games under this format which is always a good thing.

Your gimped hand is what won your game against Will and Paul !

It's nice for a change to hit a hole I wasn't aiming for...now I know how Roger feels!!!!
Maybe I should injure myself every Tuesday????

Ok lets try this event again soon, we will mix up the format a little bit after some tweaking. Instead of doing double elimination (which keeps people sitting out and makes the night longer) we will do a round robin. The team at the end of the event with the most wins is the champion.
I think I was the person that liked to format the least out of everyone, as I was worried about how long it lasted etc. Everyone else seeemed posetive about it. Anyone have any complaints that need to be addressed? The 3 person team was no good. I will keep scheduling events as usual but if we have 16 or 20 players exactly then I'll run the team event.
This week is a Pro/Am Draw!

Keep the double elim format but make everyone play once instead.
4 man teams, meaning two singles games and one doubles game. You can still pick who plays the doubles game and who plays the singles games, which should still keep things interesting.

Might make it even more interesting if you put matches on a point system, 1 point for each goal scored in each game. Carry your points through the tournament, and if you get to the final you have to play handicapped that many points spread throughout the match? This could be an option so you're only having to beat the team in king seat once, instead of twice.
Just a thought, might not really be practical.

" Anyone have any complaints that need to be addressed?"
No complaints other than the time it will take whether you do a double knockout or round robin. Either way it makes for a long night. That night the team I was on played 3 matches(and were unable to play the finals because of time, and we did not match up well against Simon & hit & hope) If there was 4 teams in a round robin as there was that night, it still would have been the same length of time( with no missed finals).
The problem comes from the time the events are starting. I know it's summer and all, but when the events do not start taking entries till 7:45-8:00, and once matches are eventually called at 8, there is no push to get going. This is why it runs so late, more so than double knockout in the team event.
Will this is not brought up to detract from you or Chad/Ben. I know what you guys have done has been great for our foos scene in Edmonton, and I also know how much of a pain it is.
Just my 2cents

BTW
The coin flip should also determine which team sets their lineup 1st, then the winner of the flip should be able to adjust his team based on their opponents lineup.

I duno, I kind of prefer that we don't know which opponent a team will face, that limits the sand bagging and adds a little to strategy. That's the way table tennis was run at the corporate challenge. It seems to roll through pretty well.

I prefer this as well.

I like the fact that you don't know who you're going to play as well. I really enjoyed the event as you get to practice the singles aspect of your game, and for me I got to play both forward and goalie depending who my partner was. It allowed me to work on more aspects of my game then being stuck as goalie all night in a pro/am and having the pro frustrated at me for letting goals in but not verbalizing it. Basically what I'm saying is that I had the most fun foosing in a long time with this format. Maybe it's cause you have a team cheering for you. Maybe it's the variety. I dig it.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I'll give it a little more time for everyone to discuss and comment on some things a little later. Any more opinions on the "flip a coin for who sets there line up". Also as a thought we could have it that "home team sets line up first" for the actual league.
I am happy that everyone had fun. Keep the comments coming guys it is nice to see all of you posting! We were just talking on our trip how it is too bad that some of you guys don't post more but then we get back and you are on here, sweet!
