Last night we had a BYP which featured some guest players from Calgary. It is always great to see guys come up and fun when some of us go down to Calgary, it heats up the competition a bit!
In the first round there was a couple good battles, Simon and I beat Roger and Darcy - also Travis and Cam against Paul and Chad was a tight one.
In the second round Tobin and Mike put on a really stellar display against Joey and Eric. Eric and Joey have been argueably the most dominant team in Alberta ever since the first tournament I have ever played - and putting up any sort of fight against them is really good. It was more than just a fight though... Eric and Joey won the first game 5-4, then Tobin and Mike won the second game. Tobin was shooting really nice pulls and having some success on the 5, Joey and Eric were switching every ball or two just to keep up. Mike was blocking well too and scoring a few from the back. In the third game Tobin and Mike got up 4-1, but Joey and Eric showed the true class of top notch players and found a way back into the game. I didn't see the final goal - but if was the "secret meat ball goal" that they have been practicing I wouldn't be suprised. Joey and Eric won.
Christian and Ben played against Simon and I, we won the first one, they won the second one, and then Simon and I took the third game. That was about the extent of any success we had playing together, and we completely unraveled from that point on...
Eric and Joey won there way to Kingseat, and Andy and Christoff smacked Simon and I around pretty good. Christoff blocked well and Andy scored nearly 100%.
Roger and Darcy got there revenge on Simon and I, they both played really well and I would never try to take that away from them. We may have been poor losers but in our defense it was a remarkably frustrating game and experience. (combined with the way we lost to Andy/Christoff)
Christian and Ben climbed there way through the B-side and I think Christian shot nearly 100% in the B side final against Christoff. Christian and Ben won the first set of the final, then the second set went to... well, watch the video on the other link and the story will be told for that match.
Our Edmonton scene has come a long way guys... Christian and Ben put up a real fight as did Tobin and Mike against one of the strongest teams in all of Canada. The measuring stick is getting closer but apparently we are not there yet! Congrats so much to Eric and Joey, a well deserved win. Thanks so much for coming and hope to see you guys all again soon! Results: 1 Joey and Eric 2 Ben and Christian 3 Christof and Andy

Just so everyone knows, Christians 1st place points streak was broken by Simon and Myself, we knocked Christian into 3rd place, which lasted for one game, then Christian moved back into first!

Mike and Albert S were actually the winner's of the B-side. We had to play them to win. Thanks Will. (This is for the second draw)

I knew my rein in first place was going to be short lived

Being gracious after defeating the enigma wrapped in a puzzle that is Mike and Tobin:.Just kidding, you guys played great, and coming up against a competitor like Mike, someone who gives a hundred percent every ball,is always fun.Keep foosin',guys!

I'm not sure what Joe's going for with that statement but either way... Great match guys, that could have gone either way.
Tobin, I hope you stick with that pull, you've got a lot of potential with it.

Pull's are for suckers
Use it as a backup in case your true real deal legit snake isn't working.
JK to be honest the pull is somewhat more satisfying to score with. (Unless you do a tap push side back to middle fake pull tap to push and shoot a half pull right down the middle SNAKESHOTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

So there isn't any doubt, mike and tobin you guys rock! There is ample evidence why I call you "The Prodigy",Tobin.

I had a great time last tuesday! Mike you played awesome and really made some key plays that kept us moving along (containing the ball well, clearing the ball, making blocks, and shooting the ball with intensity) , most importantly keeping your cool while giving it everything you had. Going up against Joey & Eric is a battle. They know what it takes to consistently keep the pace of their game and execute when it counts. I need to work on closing out a game, hard to win matches without a strong finish, guess it just takes time. Congrats Eric & Joey on 1st place!
Thanks for the comments guys! "The Prodigy" that sounds good to me Joey but I have a long way to go! I appreciate the input from everyone here on the msg board. I'm going to work on the pull shot and the snake shot and have both options because they really are two completely different mindsets of foosball that can benefit my game. The Pull Shot is a foosball purist shot. It has a calming effect on my game and it is definitely satisfying to score with! The Snake Shot is modern foosball progression, exciting and powerful. There is no way to deny how awesome a roll-over is! I feel that being committed to having a solid 5-bar (offensively and defensively) will produce the possessions on the 3-bar and until that point it doesn't matter which shot I choose to shoot! As long as I hear that sound of the ball pounding the back of the net!
Great BYP this week! Cheers Everybody! Get out there and foos!
