There are four foosers in this picture that someone should know all four (at least I do). Post your guess.
Doug McCarthy is playing Joey Ramjag ,watched on by I think Sanji Sinj ? Others not quite sure. Looks like Mike Johnston with cup in hand but I doubt it.
Looks like a Pro Soccer table
I can only surmise that this must be a doctored photo, one which is meant to deliberately mislead people into thinking that I was losing this match!!!Moreover, this reminds me of a prosoccer tournament that Douglas and I played in,as partners,in Seattle,Washington, where we played Larry Chesboro(sp?)and his partner in the final, where,if memory serves,Douglas and I prevailed. On a related note, and quite surprisingly, during that same Seattle tourney I had managed to ,how shall I put it,get under the skin of the majority of the competitors. At one point it was said that a donnybrook may be the result of my legendary charm. To which Douglas had responded to the Americans,"you fight Joey, then you fight me too."That is Douglas-A good friend,a fierce competitor, and a great fooser.
Carey, you got it. Pretty good. Mike said this tournament was in Calgary. 4 to 1
The real question is whom was it that took the picture and where in Calgary was it at and who are the two dudes standing beside Mike?
I think they were two out of towners Mike knew.
Actually that's like three questions.
I find the vertical lines cutting through the picture (about 1/5th of the way in from the left and half way) reminiscent of the Zapruder film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zapruder_film). Therefore, I am dubious of its accuracy as, no doubt, it has been doctored as part of the CIA, mafia, Castro co-conspiracy. This seems to be backed up by Joey's assertion that it must be doctored since he could not have been losing.
Seriously, with such obvious flaws, do the conspirators really believe we will buy any of this?
>>The real question is whom was it that took the picture?
Officially, there was only one photographer and it was taken from the school book depository.
Forgot it ? you posted the picture
It was posted in refrence to Tim's post. Sorry If I confused you
Yep...
So where did you get that picture? Foos Almanac?

Further to the astute observation by the most recently crowned Canadian World champion,I was not in Dallas on November 22,1963.In addition, the conscientious observer will notice in the 'photo',just above Douglas' head,is an individual.Back and to the left.Back and to the left.It is my submission that this individual is none other than--wait for it--Jack Ruby, the assassin of the often maligned but unquestionably innocent patsy,Lee Harvey Oswald.I categorically deny involvement in any of the events alluded to or any of the individuals involved.Instead, let me posit that since this photo can be traced directly back to Mike--I thought we were bro's!?--we can now assume we know not only the authorship of the photo but who the true assassin really is.Mike, find yourself a good lawyer.

The individual in the checkered shirt appears to be Simon, standing on Mike's right side. Also by using the principles of detection and my heretofore unfailing powers of discernment,I declare with the utmost confidence, that the suspect individual on Mike's left is none other than Tony Mentis,a good player in his own right.Furthermore, the chap in the background, situated between Mike and Simon,is Carpet and Flooring magnate Vern Verkly(sp?).As to the individual over and behind jean-jacket-wearing Tony Mentis, the apparently male figure sporting a white crop-top,which seems to me to suggest a certain ambivalence with respect to his choice of bunk mate, shall forever be shrouded in mystery. To be sure, the provenance of this dubious chap must be Calgary or Sanfrancisco--not that there is anything wrong with that.
Checkered guy is not Simon, nor is the other dude Tony Mentis.
Mike should remember these guys.
Nice try Sherlock but Carey is right, I don't recall ever wearing a checkered shirt. This guy looks like someone I played against in high school but I doubt it. The dude in the jean jacket isn't Tony either.
The guy it the very top left corner (above Doug's head)looks like Tony Mentis
In the jean jacket I think it is Dave Guistini. In the checkered shirt I think it is me.
Brian you must be joking ... It sure was not you or Dave Guistini.
Tony is in the top left above Doug's head right next to him is Brian whereing a white collar shirt, behind Mike and his two buddies is Vern playing a game of singles against Mitch. That makes seven
Tom is standing in between Doug and Joey on the near side of the table. He is the one holding a camera. That's 8.
Yeah, Tom is correct about Vern playing Mitch.
Tom did you take the picture?
Nice work boys! yes the tourney was in Calgary ../ I can recall walking in and there was a glass display of assorted 'foos' gloves and T shirts for purchase. It appears my good friend Joey purchased a shirt as did i and he is wearing his in the pic. :) I know I played Chopper ( C.S. ) for sure. I had a pretty good push- kick , Euro and bank series at the time. many a night of foos at Zak's Arcade run By Ang K. (One of the best ever!)
Years later I moved to Edmonton with my company and located Ang again who introduced me to the infamous Tornado.. 'wrapped handles and Rollers'! still enjoying the game years later. The guys running things here and the players are all terrific!
I think it's Bill Kwan behind McCarthy's head.
looks like the Cue & Cushion, but the pic looks a few years too early for that
possible locations:
Champs Cue & Cushion Zack's Sandman Downtown
looks like the Cue to me
Sandman downtown is correct.
Yes to Bill Kwan as well- nice to remember foosers that shot backpins as we are like to dinosaur now- not alot of us left...lol
At this tournament,Pete(who now lives in Vancouver i believe) and I teamed up to play on a money table. After the matches had concluded for the day, everyone decided they still wanted to play.Consequently,we disassembled a table and brought it up to one of the rooms. With Pete playing back,He and I did not lose a match from around midnight to the point that no one wanted to play anymore because we all needed sleep for the following day.We had a blast and just could not lose.A great night for foos!!!

Wasn't this the tourament with the garbage can incident?
Sounds like a good story Simon, care to share?
You guys are all so lucky.
I deny any and all knowledge related to the aforementioned 'garbage incident',that is if I had any knowledge to deny. Moreover,I did not break, intentionally or otherwise,Garry's passenger side window on his Chevette(sp?)Any further questions on this issue will be handled by my lawyer er...Sol Steinberg.Thank you and goodnight.
