Topic: One Day Tournaments

Author: Will Original Message Posted: Nov 24 2010 6:42PM

New For 2011 - Edmonton will be hosting several "One Day Tournaments". These will take place on Saturday nights at 6:00. It will be Open Doubles, and Open Singles. The tournaments should run from about 6:00 to 11:00.

These will count for points but at a lesser amount than Majors.

The plan is to have one Saturday per month, potentially rotated back and forth between Calgary and Edmonton. If not then we will run all of them in Edmonton. We'll do it so that people can drive back and forth in one day. We will be doing a $10 per event entry fee.

Will that is a good start for "One Day" tournies.

Maybe a little earlier start could be done, about 3:00 pm.
Also any chance to getting 1 or 2 more tables in place to allow for general play for anyone.

Could there be a chance for a Fireball table to be on display?
Might be another added attraction for the out of towners to make the trip?

Players can show up earlier if they want but events will start at 6:00.

I wont be bringing in more tables for these events, we should get through them in one night no problem.

I should note that we do plan to put more tables in gateway eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later. Right now we can't do it though.

Thanks Will for the response. Could well be more time is required to determine a best decision on any expansion efforts.

I know that a number of Calgary players would be disinclined to play in these tournaments because of their late start, which would almost certainly require an overnight stay, which they do not feel is worth it.

Ya I know what you are saying, it would be ideal to run the tournament at 2:00. I work on Saturdays until 5, so I will run the tournament at 6:00.

Maybe we could run singles at 3 and doubles at 6 - probably wrap up by 9 or so.

Chad would run the event when I am at work.

This hopefully will have a positive reaction from a interested group from afar.
