This week we did a DYP, and I think this was the best tournament that I have seen in quite some time.
Several really tight first round matchups included Tobin and Cam against Roger and Jamie. Jamie is coming off a really hot week where he won the tournament last week and had a results list posted putting him in the top players in Alberta for winning percentage over the last year. Cam and I had been practicing since about noon on Tuesday, so Cam was also feeling good coming into this big first match. It turned out that everyone played well, but Tobin really put on a show, scoring really well throughout the night but especially in the first two matches. After knocking off Rog and Jamie which is a bit of an upset, Tobin and Cam proceeded to beat Christian and Chad, a truly impressive victory gaining them 23 points each.
Also in the first round was Paul and MJ (Mike “Big Dog” Johnston) playing against Des and Ritchie. I didn’t see the game at all but Paul and Mike won and I’m guessing it was a close one, more details to follow if Mike or Paul can let us know how that one went.
Sam and Garry had a good night also – I will go on record saying this right now… I have never seen anyone have as high of a save percentage throughout an entire night as Sam had on Tuesday. It was REALLY impressive. Sam and Garry played Tobin and Cam, and Garry played keepaway from Tobin’s 5 rod pretty well. I think the game was won by Garry getting most of the loose ball grabs, and Sam making a lot of blocks.
Tobin and Cam finished a very respectable 4th place and astronomically shot up the points chart with crucial victories.
Sam and Garry went on to finish 3rd, but not without Sam really bricking Ben well, and then forcing Christian to play back for entire games. This might also have in part to do with Garry shooting well on Chad, but Chad and Christian utilized switching really well throughout the night.
The final was an intense one, Ben and Will (a powerhouse team in the last year or two in Alberta) happened to be drawn as partners for this event. Christian and Chad had come from the losers bracket and ended up with the double dip victory, which I think was 5-4 in the 3rd both times. Maybe not the first time but for sure the last goal of the game came down to Chad making a crucial block then Christian putting it away.
In the second DYP Chris and Garret fought off a tough field of teams to win, in the second match in the final. They played the first DYP together too and must have gelled a little bit to find the form it took to win, great playing guys!
Results: 1st Chad and Christian $50 2nd Will and Ben $ 30 3rd Sam and Garry $20 4th Tobin and Cam (totally deserve money but just missed out)
2nd DYP 1st Chris and Garret $25

Cool stat for Simon!
Only one person in our league has a winning record against Simon - actually only one person (no one else is this close to perfect). Do you think you can guess who it is? Christian? 13-12 for Simon.... Will? 19-15 for Simon. No... Christof? HELLL YEAH! 3-2 for Christof haha. I hope Christof can hold onto this one, but if not then Simon has some serious bragging rights - a winning record against everyone.
