This week we did a ProAm Draw - and it was one of the most fun tournaments I have been a part of. There is something fun about having players that haven't played in many tournaments before, and we had a lot of those players this week! The first round had several good matchups, including a a strong team featuring Cam and Uzair taking on Chad and Garret. Cam was playing up front mostly and he was passing and scoring well, Uzair blocked Chad several times and they took the match 2 strait games. Darcy and Carlos played against Patrick and myself. Carlos was ripping some nice long push and pulls from the 2 bar and Darcy hung in on the 5 as well. I think this was one of the best 5 bar displays I have seen Darcy put forth, and he was catching every loose ball too on his 3 bar. He made the most of his shots too, and in the 3rd game they knocked us into the B side. The biggest storyline of the night was Darrel and Christian. Darrel was up from Red Deer and had his family out too, and it was Darrels birthday. He played amazing throughout the night, shooting really well from his 2 bar and with some help along the way he became quite a solid defender too. Christian and Darrel won every game they played right through the A side and made it to the final. Mike and Carlie had to face Cam and Uzair after they were coming off a big win. Mike was picking his holes really well and finding a zone through the defense, Carlie was blocking and scoring too, I saw one game she scored 3 goals, mostly on push shots. Des and Brian were also a talking point this week as they won 3 consecutive "losers side" matches and ended up taking 4th after losing to Patrick and I on what must be considered a painful goal. We were lucky to escape with a win in that match. After that we took on Darcy and Carlos again and with Patrick contributing 2-3 goals from the 2 bar, and having improved his overall game really quickly from the first match, we won two strait this time. In the final it was a pretty epic showdown. Christian and Darrel against Patrick and I. Patrick is Darrel's son so he obviously had something to play for in this one, but we couldn't get the job done. Darrel was blocking really well and clearing the ball past my zone D virtually every time, and Christian was shooting/passing at nearly 100%.
