Last night we did an "Am's Choice Pro Am" where we drew the Amateur players and let them choose whichever partner they wanted.
We had another solid turnout last night with 22 players, and it made for a really interesting tournament with that format.
Zak and Carlie took on Sam and Uzair in an intense first round matchup. Zak was on fire in the back blocking and scoring really well, and Carlie was passing and scoring pretty well too. Carlie really catches people off guard with how hard she can shoot, and to be honest its a little bit unexpected for most people I think. Carlie and Zak won that one and proceeded to play against Christian and Chris - a real powerhouse team. Christian and Chris had their fun but won the match in the end.
In a second round match up we saw Darcy and Daniel playing against Ed and Conrad. Darcy's rollover has been getting better and better over the last year and a bit, and has been very strong for a while. One thing I noticed in Darcy's play lately is that he doesn't shoot at the obvious option, and waits for just the right timing to shoot. He scores the most straits/middles of any roller shooter in Edmonton - that is a sign of a smart player. Darcy and Dan took that match too.
Chris and Christian played against Darrel and I for the kingseat game. Darrel was back this week after winning the tournament partnered with Christian last week. Darrel was scoring really well and blocking great up to that point - but in the first two games Christian was scoring really well. We got a couple lucky bounces and Darrel won us the 2nd game with a shot from his 2 bar, then in the 3rd game Darrel made a bunch of key blocks to get us the win. Darrel has the mental strength for this game for sure, which is probably more important than any skills players might have.
Ben and Garret went on a really nice run, beating teams such as Daniel and Darcy, Ed and Conrad, and Mike and Maria. It was impressive seeing how far Garret's game has come too - it was tough to stop his clearing attempts and his defense was strong, Ben was also playing well and it seemed that they had a good partnership. Garret hit a bank against us from his 2 bar on the near side off the far wall - it was a complete rocket of a bank and we couldn't do anything to block it.
In the final Chris and Christian came back to double dip Darrel and I. Chris was passing great, and scoring quite a few goals too. The frustrating thing was that Chris would show the pass he was going to do, but hit it just at the right time to find its way through. When he didnt pass he found a hole through the zone to the back of the net. Christian and I both played equally, but Chris was a big difference maker in the matches and deserves a lot of credit for the win.
In the 2nd DYP we had another pretty good tournament with 14 players in that one. Brian and Sam had a really good tournament going to the final but were double dipped by Ed and Conrad. Ed and Conrad went to meat ball with Chad and Mike, who had a shot go off both posts, only for Conrad to put it away after being that close to elimination. In the end it was a pretty solid night of foosing for everyone involved. Happy foosin everybody!
Results: 1st Christian and Chris 2nd Will and Darrel 3rd Ben and Garret
2nd Draw: 1st Ed and Conrad 2nd Sam and Brian 3rd Mike and Chad

That does answer my question.
It must get easier to talk a big game from your couch.
