This week we did a Pro/Am Draw. I didn't attend but I made some phone calls to help out with my writeup, keep in mind any info I have here is 2nd or 3rd hand and may or may not be true. Some tough first round match ups included Paul and Chad against Mike and Tobin. Mike was coming fresh off a big victory last week but couldn't keep it rolling this week, Chad and Paul pulled off a big win and then lost to Christian and Devon. Conrad and Garrett stormed through the top half of the chart, beating SOLID teams like Chris and Karli then Ben and Darrel. The run continued when they took out pre-event favorites Christian and Devon. Des and Ray had a losers side match up against Paul and Chad, but found themselves down 4-1 in the third. One thing that Des doesn't get enough credit for is composure when he is down in a match, and this time it paid off. Ray and Des clawed there way back in the match, with a few clutch saves and 5 bar blocks keeping the ball out for the last goal. Des and Ray actually had a pretty good run of wins too, but ended up getting stopped by Ben and Darrel and finishing a respectable 4th. In the final, Christian started to find the back of the net a little more often than in the kingseat game, and Devon was really safe with the ball clearing and banking the ball out of the zone as well as coming up with crucial blocks. Nice work Conrad - both on the result and the points that you gained! You are only one or two solid weeks away from being a top 10 player now... Congrats to Garrett on pushing into the top 20, anyone who can keep Christian from scoring for a match like the kingseat game deserves to be in the top 20 in my opinion! |
