Since this thread is ready to be plucked by a pirate... So here is the latest fad in Chinese knockoffs. Media boxes. It is a small computer box with just enough circuitry to play videos through a simple interface. Plus an HDMI out, a regular audio and digital audio out and a power cable. Plus, an infrared transmitter and a separate remote control. On the front is a hinged panel that opens up to allow a standard sized hard drive. I have a 1.5 TB and a 2TB standing by, one full and the other about to get full soon. You purchase (I guess "buy the fenced goods” is a more accurate term). You pay about C$.15 per 10 GB. You get to choose from hundreds of titles on line then you just give the online list to your supplier and come back in a day. You pay your money and get back your now loaded drive. They are HD movies some 720p some 1080p with digital sound. So one HD movie is about 45 cents to maybe a buck. Recopy them, re-watch, them delete, them whatever you want. Where you drop off your empty drive they keep things low key and out of sight. The actual place is probably some apartment with 10 guys making 2 or 3 bucks an hour (decent pay here) to copy from some big clusters of hard drives to your hard drive. It will probably take 3 or 4 hours per hard drive. Then they probably change the location of the apartment every few weeks and have everything backed up anyway in case they get raided. With kickbacks involved, that doesn’t happen often - usually when Obama or someone like that comes to town. Then back up and running the next week. Then I pick up my hard drive the next day, pay my money bring it back, plug it in and it’s popcorn time. Sure I feel guilty. For about 10 seconds… A good media box is a couple of hundred bucks plus you need to get a hard drive or two for it as well. I think it all pays for itself pretty quickly though. You can also buy knockoff Blu Ray movies for about C$7-8 each. But I am too cheap for that. I did have to pay Western rates for my projector, but my 110 inch remote electric screen was only about C$100. Plus $10 to have a guy come and spend a couple of hours to install it.
