Simon, Christina, Jazzyjeff, and I drove to Bothel, Washington for the Washington State Open. It was probably my favorite tournament that I have gone to, and we had a lot of fun along the way.
This year I have talked to a lot of people and it seems like we have a lot of interest in going again. If you have never been to a tournament out of Alberta before, this is the one I would recommend going to. The people are really friendly, the tournament director is great, the location is nice, Fireball tables (the same as our Edmonton tournament, which gives us a month to practice ahead of everyone else at the tournament) and a lot of other benefits too.
We could either drive down in 1 or 2 vehicles, or we could execute what I'm going to call plan A.
Rent a huge RV from northernlightsvacations.com.
If we rent an RV we can have 7 or 8 of us all in the RV for the drive, which will make for a really fun drive. We won't need to get hotel rooms once we are at the tournament, and we can bbq food too. If we get 7 people, the total cost per person for RV rental and gas would be around $250 each.
The tournament registration is only about $100, regardless of whether you are an Amateur or not. Simon, Christian, and I will only be able to play in: Open Doubles Open Singles DYP Limited Doubles Open Mixed
Everyone else can play in Amateur Singles and Doubles too, but can't play in Limited Doubles.
Last year Christian and Simon played against Jazzyjeff and I in the final of Amatuer Doubles, and Simon won Amatuer singles. Needless to say - we are much too good to be playing in Amateur down in Washington.
I think any of the players in the 20 - 10 range of our points here would be contenders in the Am events at this tournament.
So whether we drive down and take two vehicles or rent an RV I think its a trip worth making. Book off the Friday and Monday, we can leave Thursday night after work, stop in Calgary for the Thursday night DYP, then make it to Washington with a few hours to spare before the tournament starts.
