This Tuesday we did a two tiered Draw Your Partner.
We had a solid showing of new players, at least 8 players that had never played in our league before. We also had the return of a couple of players from the Rosarios days - Paul and Tony.
The second tier DYP had some strong teams - Brian and Dan had a good showing, winning the first match, then closely losing the second to Carlie and Chris Gallant. Chris is a player that came out to the training seminar at West Edmonton Mall with Christian, and he really hasn't looked back since. Chris was a machine on the 5 row, and his rollover has actually been coming along well too. Carlie was the real story in this match though. She opened game 1 with four goals in a row from the back. Chris put the game away. In the second game Dan and Brian turned it around, they won that one, and got a lead in the third game too. Carlie again scored 3 consecutive goals though, to win the match and move into the A side final.
Ray and Elliot won the bracket in there side, and after losing to Chris and Carlie played the B side final against Brian and Dan, who had an incredible run through the B side including beating Darcy and Toby in a tough match. The final ended up going to a second set, but Carlie and Chris proved too much to handle again. It really was an incredible showing for Chris and Carlie, who gained an impressive 75 points each by winning the tournament!
In the Tier 1 DYP there was some headlines made. Garry and Conrad beat Ben and Justin in the first match. Chris blocked and scored a ton in a losing effort to Tobin and I. Simon and Paul, in Pauls return to foos after a few years off, had a strong team that seemed to work well together. Simon was passing well and shooting great too, while Paul was scoring consistently from his 2 bar and blocking well also.
When Simon and Paul played Christian and Jamie, Christian came out strong and had them down two nothing in the first minute. Paul and Simon stayed calm and tied it up. The game went to 4-4 and Paul and Simon won game one. Game two Christian and Jamie smoked them 5-1 or 5-2. In game three Simon and Paul got it together. Passed well and shot well. Paul blocked Christian well, then Christian had some trouble with his wall pass with the ball going between the man and the wall so he dropped about 5 - 6 passes in the match. Final score was 5-3 for Simon and Paul Simon and Paul played Garry and Conrad for king seat, It went three games. Garry Passed well and shot well from his three but Simon just had more possessions and a little higher scoring percentage.
Ben and Justin started climbing through the B side. The run for them went through Des and Cam, then Will and Tobin, then Christian and Jamie, then Garry and Conrad, then they took the first match off of Simon and Paul, 2 strait. That is an incredible run, great foosing by Ben and Justin, including a bunch of adjusting and some timely switches.
Ben played some of the best foos I have seen. His five was blocking Simon and he passed at a high percentage the whole match. He picked up every loose ball on the table and shot hit rollover at about 90%. They steam rolled the first two games straight in the first match. In the second match they won the first game and had a shot at 4-4 in the second game that hit the post and flew of the table. Paul was hitting some nice push shots from the back and kept them alive in that game. Justin scored a rebound shot into his own net giving up game two. In game three the momentum had changed. Simon passed well on Ben and blocked his five. After going up 4-0 and they mounted a comeback and got the score to 4-2. Simon and Paul ended up winning 5-2 after a really hard fought tournament!

Congrats to Carlie and Chris. I heard Carlie was scoring like mad from her two bar and it was only a matter of time she won a tuesday night event. Chris comes out on his first appearance on a tuesday night and take home the win. Great playing you Carlie and Chris!

yeah Carlie was a tough sharpshooter to beat Brian and I shut her dad down, after figuring a zone to stop Carlie. Ray was killer on the bank shots, and just when we adjusted he starts nailing them downtown.
awesome night of foos.....sorry darcy for the meatball

Yeah, good playing Chris and Carlie, it was fun to see some newer players really get into it and you guys played awesome.
Dan, slop happens man, you guys played well, don't apologize for anything!
I didn't really catch any of the tier 1 stuff, but from what I heard Ben and Simon both played well, good stuff.
Looking forward to next week!

What's up with Christian's Internet? It must be down for maintenance again.

Hey thanks guys, I had a lot fun playing in the league Tuesday and learned a lot. It was great to meet everyone and put some faces to names too.
I had a first-hand view of Carlie's two bar scoring streaks, which were so stunning they overshadowed her solid goaltending. She made some pretty clutch saves throughout the night, and then in the first game of the final match Ray switched to the front, really putting the pressure on her, but she held her ground and stopped him so well he had to switch back. Pretty good D all-around!
