This week we did a No Two Pro DYP, and ended up with a decent turn out again. There was a few surprises, but in the end the teams that played the best foosball were at the top of the chart.
In the first round Chris and Garry played against Simon and Devin. The match went two strait, although it was close in both games. Chris made a few key blocks giving a reverse D that forced Simon to pick a small hole, and Garry was picking up the ball well on his 3 row. Garry also nailed down the rolling pull for that match, which might have been the biggest difference.
Rick Jamerson and Tony came out flying too, beating a strong team featuring Carey and Dan. In the second match for them they played against Darcy and myself, and gave us a pretty good run for it too.
Brian and Christian were making there way through the A side also. Darcy and I played against them in both teams 3rd match, and it wasn't even close. Brian deserves the credit for more than one reason... The first reason is that we had issues scoring, he put up a wall with timely switches in his defense and predicting the shot we wanted to take and not letting us have the hole. The other reason Brian deserves credit is he found a way to get Christian going. I havn't seen Christian play with that drive or determination in a while, and it is scary when he has it. Christian was on fire, only getting blocked a few times on any rod.
Christian and Brian went on to take kingseat from Chad and Ben. Chad and Ben had a tough road to the kingseat game, but they seemed to work well as a team. Chad was very unpredictable with his two bar, and probably had the best clearing percentage of any goalie in the tournament. Ben again was smart with the ball and hit the holes well.
Sam and Scott Blair were another team that made headlines. After losing in the first round they went on a streak through the bracket, beating Rick and Tony along the way.
Simon got things turned around and proved why he is #1, rolling through the B side after a first round loss. Devin was a machine too, banking up a storm from his push set on the 2 row. It was pretty sick sometimes, I think some players thought it wasn't on purpose... but if you watched a match or two you would see the consistency Devin hit that bank with.
In the final Simon and Devin came out really strong, and won the first set, then took game 1 of the second set. It seemed like the game would end, sometimes at a time like this Christian would switch to his pull or get frustrated, but the team chemistry was working out well. The momentum shifted and Christian and Brian won two games in a row to take the championship.
A huge amount of praise is due for Brian and Devin, both making it to the final in this tournament. A lot of times a Pro like Christian or Simon can carry a newer player to the final in a pro/am or a tournament where the other pro's don't have too strong of partners, but in this tournament that wasn't the case at all. Garry had Chris, a regular in the top 10. Ben had Chad, one of the stronger goalies and he has a great two bar. Darcy and I were playing together, both of us capable of winning the tournament with any partner, never mind partnering together. With three teams like that, as well as a VERY deep field littered with strong players, a huge shout out to both of you for hanging in there and showing you belong at the top level. Great work.
Results: 1st Brian and Christian 2nd Devin and Simon 3rd Chad and Ben

Devin played great, very steady and made some amazing blocks. Brian was really solid in the final game. He cleared the ball really well and made a huge save after a beautiful pass from Christians five to my three.
