This week we had TWO tournaments, and it was VERY successful. I am more excited now about our scene than I have been for a long time! At Time Out we did a singles tournament, there were a lot of really close matches and hard fought battles. Conrad and Ritchie played on the A side and in the B side, Conrad winning the first and Ritchie winning the second, both matches involved a lot of quick transition game and loose ball grabs on the 3 bars. It was the shooting/blocking that was the difference in both matches. In the first match, Conrad had an unstoppable 3 bar, picking all holes and timing his shot perfectly. In the second match Ritchie seemed to pick up on something and find a way to make a couple of early blocks, then Conrad couldn't find his rhythm again and Ritchie started to bury his shots. Ray also had a good showing on the night beating Garrett and Chris on his way to 4th place - in the money. In the final Ritchie and I played, it was a tough match that went to the 3rd game 5-3. Last night we had a DYP at Dukes... I can't figure out why more people aren't coming out, we had 12 which was about right, but if you aren't coming to this tournament you are missing out. The tables are playing really well now, the lighting is good, it is a super comfortable atmosphere and the servers are cute... what more could you ask for! The tournament was a good one too, Roger and Ray played Simon and Chad in the winners side, and after Simon came out firing on all cylinders in game 1, Ray started living up to the nickname Bank Machine in game 2. They scrapped out game 2, but in Game 3 was where the fireworks happened. Roger was a machine on the 5 row, swatting Chads shots/passes back up to his 3 bar several times. It is amazing how fast the one timer pass was going... Everyone in Edmonton knows about Rogers 3 bar also, he was shooting quick and just drilling longs off the post and in, or setting up the pull kick, or timing the strait. The match went right down to the wire but Roger and Ray came away with the win. Chris Gallant, back out after a short break through the summer, was a rock in the pits for me all night. He was incredibly calm with the ball, making smart decisions and passing really well too. In particular the Kingseat game against Roger and Ray, which went to the third game, I don't think we could have won the match if it wasn't for the extra shots I got from my 3 bar because of Chris passing so well. Simon and Chad came back through the B side and got to the final, where they won the first set in three games against Chris Gallant and myself. In the second set we got things settled down and won the tournament. Great playing everyone, and looking forward to another couple of great events next week. We'll probably just play it by ear at Time Out for what event to do, but we will do a tournament and it will be incredible. A couple people have asked lately how the point system works: In singles, two players are playing against eachother, one has 1300 points the other has 900 points. If the 1300 points player wins, he will gain 1-2 points, and the 900 point player will lost about 1-2 points. They would become 1302 and 898 point players after the match. If the 900 point player wins, he will gain about 30 points, and the 1300 point player will lose about 30 points. They would become 930 and 1270 point players after the match. If two equal players play, say both have 900, whoever wins will win 16 points, and the loser will lose 16 points. This would make one player a 916 points player, while the loser would have 884 points. The MAX you can win or lose is 32 points in a match. As an example, in Singles, I won 4 matches, but gained only 3 points because I was beating players ranked much lower than me. In the DYP Chris and I won only 3 matches, but because we played Chad and Simon, a team ranked only slightly lower than us, we won about 16 points in that match. The other two matches, against Maria and Darcy and then Roger and Ray, we won about 8 points in each match.
