This Tuesday we will do the Kings Court event!
Every player in attendance will be given a rating between 1 and 5. The two players on each team add up their rating to get a total number, which is the amount of goals those two must score to win the game. I.E. a 2 and 1 partner up vs a 5 and 4 One team needs 3 goals to win and the other team needs 9 goals to win.
Players are allowed to partner up with whoever they want to, and challenge on either table. The winning team of each game stays on the table and plays vs the next challengers. Once a team has won 3 times in a row, they are off the table and can not partner up with each other any more.
Players can show up late and leave early with no effect on the overall outcome. Whoever wins the most single games at the end of the allotted time is the winner!
We will start at 8:00 sharp and run until 11:00.

Last time we did this Chris K came away with the win, with 3 players tied for second - all one point behind him!

I'll be there! Are we getting numbered based on points?

I dunno, we'll probably just number it based on how I'm feeling that night. Whoever buys me a drink gets their number lowered by 1 (per drink - maximum of 3 points possible drop)

Will - 6 Roger - 5 Conrad - 4 Ray - 3 Ed - 2 Maria - 1
Everyone else can probably figure out where they belong based on those examples

Seems pretty straightforward although I'm a little confused since I'm pretty sure that I'm above a 2 but not quite yet at the 3 level do you round up or down?
|
|
.5 or over you round up! just take into consideration how many drinks you buy. if you round up to a 3 and buy 3 you dont have to score any goals to win. that being said, i will still beat you

Christian and I will be partners at some point... playing to 12. Who wants a piece of us!
|
|
5. Only me C and S would be 6

Last night was fun! I think everyone liked the format... some good points about how it worked: -No one gets knocked out of the tournament and has to stop playing -People can show up late or leave early without causing a problem -Everyone can play with whichever partners they want throughout a night -it seemed that everyone had an equal chance to win any given match
We had 22 players out.
Congrats to Maria on winning! I took 2nd place and Taras was 3rd. Great job to everyone.

The highlight of the night for me was when Christian and I won 3 in a row, playing to 12 in each game. It is really fun to get a chance to play with Christian - we very rarely get time on a table together unless we are playing against each other in a pro/am or something.

Yeah that was super fun and also a good challenge, especially when the other team only needs 4 goals. It's one thing having to score 3:1 in a best of 5 but in one game everything is magnified. I really enjoyed the format and look forward to trying it out again. It solves three problems in one, the first of which being what Will alluded to where you can come and go as you please without disruption, the second being that you have the opportunity to partner with multiple people and learn how to adapt to different styles quickly or if choose you could build chemistry with the same partner until you are able to reach the 3 in a row mark. And the biggest thing for me was that it created a competitive environment for every team...Often when dealing with handicapped scenarios either the handicap doesn't make a difference or it makes too much of a difference. Granted there is an argument that the better team should win and a handicap should just give a team a slightly better shot to pull off a win i.e. IFP tour handicap events but last night it seemed that the point differentials were spot on and each team had a 50/50 legit shot at victory and it was gonna come down to more of a mental game of not making mistakes and putting away key balls instead of just being able to freewheel. I remember a lot of games coming right down to the last ball where it seemed that whichever team wanted it more or was able to elevate their game on the key points was going to win the game regardless of their rank or skill level. Sounds like a win-win to me

|
How many games did the top 3 or 4 players end up getting in on the night? Would there be any advancement in a player's rating from this type of event?.
|
|
Pretty sure handicapped events don't ever count for points.

Actually, everyone that attended gets 6000 bonus points regardless of winning or losing.
Maria had 8 game wins, good enough for first place!
Some people didn't get any wins throughout the night, but instead of going 2 and out like in a normal tournament they got to play more...
We might make Maria a 2 next time instead of a 1... That is about the only change we would do to an event like this. If someone wins a lot or loses a lot we could move them up or down a number. I think most of the rankings were fair though. Even people that didn't win any games were just one goal away from winning in probably 3 or 4 different games. If they had got a bounce or two they could have been in the top 3.

I agree I played in about 8 or 9 games and did not win a game but it came to meat ball almost every game. Maria and Myself played a game against Will and Christian. We needed 4 and they needed 12. Both Maria and Myself thought we were going to win this one at one point. The score was 3 to 5 so we only needed 1 to there 7 but Christian and Will pulled it off and got the win 12 to 3. It was fun to play against two of the top players and have a chance to win. I liked the format and had a great time. Will you should try the same format with the 1 to 6 ranking but a BYP tournament.

Sounds good Steve! We'll do that for sure.
Christian and I got lucky to keep a couple of close ones out that could have ended it for us. Then at 11-3 you made about 4 blocks on Christian to keep your team in it too. That was a really fun game!

I enjoyed this format as well because everyone gets as much or as little playing time as they want. I'm often out of the tournament in 2 or 3 matches but I like sticking around for playing time. I usually have to wait until late before a table opens up during regular tournament play. This format is great because it's challenging and it helps everyone try a little bit harder. As for points, I've never really cared about points so it doesn't bother me that these events don't count for points. I just want playing time as that's how you get better.
