This week we did a BYP with a limitation, the top 3 players of Christian, Simon, and Will all had to partner with someone that had less than 1000 points. We ended up with 32 players showing up for a portion of the night, and 26 of them registered in the tournament!
This format produced a LOT of really strong teams. Tier 1 had Simon and Mike, Will and Ritchie, Christian and Cam, Sam and Tobin, Carey and Maria, Conrad and Ray, Chris and Chad, and Darcy partnered with Garry.
Tier 2 was also full of great competition, Carlos and Brian, Carmen and Marko, Taras and Bob, Paul and Scott, and Jen and Mike.
Tier 2 had a bunch of close matches, Carlos and Brian played Scott and Paul for kingseat - Carlos used his chip from the outside 3 bar man and his fast long push shot to put the game away. Bob and Taras (who recently won a Tier 1 event) fought back throught the B side and put up a good battle against Carlos and Brian, but in the end they couldn't get through for the win.
I think its time for a unique nickname for Carlos and Brian... they play together quite a bit and are really devastating, plus they play a funky style of foos, someone suggest something for that!
Congrats guys on winning the tournament!
In Tier 1 we had a few great matches in the first round. Chris Kerr continued the top notch foos that he has been putting together every week, and Chad blocked up a storm against Simon and Mike. Chris played so consistent, not ever deviating from his simplistic but well thought out game plan.. They knocked off the pre-tournament favorite in game 1.
Darcy and Garry played Ritchie and I in the first round also, Darcy lit us both up - I think he was only blocked once by Ritchie, and when I went back I was 0 for 2 on blocks also. He just shot great, Garry also played really well, scoring one from the back and blocking me decently also. Not suprisingly based on that info, they beat us 2 strait.
Tobin and Sam lost to Christian and Cam, but then in the losers side they knocked off Simon and Mike, and then beat Garry and Darcy too. Two big upsets in a row show that months of rust don't really matter to Tobin. Sam was also blocking well and dropping bombs from the back.
With all of those story lines happening, it is incredible that the biggest story of the night hasn't been touched on yet.
Ray and Conrad beat Carey and Maria, then beat Darcy and Garry after that one. This took them to the kingseat match that Christian and Cam were ready for. Conrads 5 bar has become very very good. His 5 bar D is based mostly on baiting and reacting very quickly - and he does it very effectively. Conrad's 3 is picking up a ton of loose balls too. Consistently making steals and picking up anything off a back wall. His 3 bar consists of push kicks, pull kicks, dinks, front pins, and back pins. This sounds like total chaos, and it truly is. It is nearly impossible to block him when his game is on, and on Tuesday his game was VERY on. Ray was solid in the back all night, blocking all shooters well, including Christain and myself throughout the night.
Ray is crushing a push shot from his 2 bar so well, and combined with the occasional bank the 2 row is something to be feared with that team as well. Conrad and Ray beat Christian and Cam, sending them to the losers bracket.
In the losers Myself and Ritchie beat Christian and Cam and then played Conrad and Ray, but they were completely too much to handle and they beat us 2 strait, without much of a fight to be honest. We couldn't keep the possession or get enough shots. Ray got the ball out every time and Conrad scored lights out as well.
Tournament Champions Ray and Conrad, congrats!
