This week we did a Pro/Am DYP, and had a typical 20 players show up for the event.
Greg Ustina was in town for this one too, we always love having Greg show up and add his skill and experience into our player base. I think every time he comes out people learn some new stuff from him.
Some tough teams included Will and Scott, Greg and Carlos, Conrad and Steve.. as well as a lot of other good teams.
In the winners side we had a big upset in the first round with Mike Johnston and Bob Croft taking out Scott and myself. They played really well and found a way to get key blocks on both rods at important times. I thought it might slinshot them deep into the tournament, but they ran into Cam and Chad right away. Cam and Chad were playing great all night. It was pretty cool to see Chad, the pro on his team, play back for the whole night essentially.
Des and Kieran came throught the other side, knocking off Greg U and Carlos along the way. In the kingseat match Cam and Chad turned it up a little more too. Des was pretty much in control of the 5 for the match, but Cam was shooting lights out... and Chad was a brick wall.
Obviously Chad has one of the best 2 rows in the city, probably only behind Simon's for consistently scoring from the back at this point. It came through at a couple of key points in the kingseat match, and again in the final too. Even when he didn't score, he got the ball out every time.
Kieran was also playing great, containing the ball and putting solid shots on net. The most important battle in the match was Des shooting on Chad. Des had a ton of shots, a testament to his 5 row.. but Chad had his pull and roller on lock down.
Chad and Cam took the kingseat match and then beat Des and Kieran again in the final.
Results: 1st Chad and Cam 2nd Des and Kieran 3rd Greg and Carlos

I just want to thank every one for showing me a really good time. I always enjoy myself up in Edmonton. I love the way the events are set up favoring the new players and providing a very challenging situation for everyone in it. It's like the team that wins, Chad and Cam might not be the best players there, but they certainly were playing the best for their skill level that night, that's what it's really all about, the most satisfying thing, and the format let it show, where as a different thing like OD or challenge table it wouldn't have been as clear or satisfying for them. Well done!
And you guys are always getting better, good to see !!!
Revenge on Mike Johnston, oh that was sweet, it was so long ago that I decided I had to get that I can't even remember why, but it was good.
