Topic: WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ITALY

Author: uknowit Original Message Posted: Jun 8 2007 11:52PM

Who is going to Italy to represent Canada in singles?

Is there going to be a tournament to decide who goes or is it going to be the person who has the most itsf points.

Who is the doubles team that is going to represent Canada?

What is the deadline for regastration if no one qualifies in the top 16?

Will they have to pay? (single and doubles players)

Thanks

Mario Ariganello

Hey Mario,

Q: Who is going to Italy to represent Canada in singles?
A: The current plan is to have the ultimatefoos.com promotion winner be canada's singles national champion - and that's who gets to go to italy. i'll have to check with the producers again, and see where this is - its getting late.

Q: Is there going to be a tournament to decide who goes or is it going to be the person who has the most itsf points.
A: the ultimatefoos.com promotion is a series of tournaments. But that highest itsf points sounds like an idea to me. If we are picking (by whatever means) our national champions this year, then we have to let the ITSF know by the end of june. If we do decide to run a tournament of some type, then the results of that tournament have to be known a month before italy.

Q: Who is the doubles team that is going to represent Canada?
A: we dont't know yet. and the process in which they are selected in unknown yet. But if they are simply chosen - then they'll have to be known by the end of june.

Q: What is the deadline for regastration if no one qualifies in the top 16?
A: if depends on wheather we decide to choose the national champions (based on some fair criteria for all players), or run a tournament. if we choose - again that'll be known by june 30, if we run a tourney, then the results of that tourney have to be known a month before italy.

Q: Will they have to pay? (single and doubles players)
A: yes they will have to pay - the itsf is not paying for any trips or providing packages to anyone but the top 16. The TSAC would love to help out here, and hopefully will in the future, but we just cant see it at this point - we're still new.

The itsf is not providing packages to any countries.

So i guess from the looks of it Canada is not going to have a male player at the world championships,or should i say just me. Is it because we are not full members to the itsf or did they just cut it out of there program.

Wow that is perty shocking to me. I dont think that is going to be a good decision. I wonder how many people are going to shell out $1000 for a flight and 150 EUROS a night plus traveling in Italy. on top of that if you stay at another hotel you dont get free breakfest, lunch and dinner. thats not cheep.

The only countries that are going to be there are countries that have qualifiers and the top 16 which only 8 countries are being represented in the top 16. of course 1 Italian and some european countries. That doesnt look like a world championship to me especially if CANADA isn't there.

I guess to the ITSF that is all that matters. To me i think they are just working backwards but who knows, farid knows what he is doing.

Im the last one to talk bad about any one trying to do good for foosball and i respect all there efforts but sometimes i think they have there heads stuck to far up there ass. LK OUTSIDE YOUR BUNS.

I wish all the best and hope foosball breaks through this 30 year drought. I just hope the world can see what all foosball enthusiast see.

Q: Is it because we are not full members to the itsf or did they just cut it out of there program.
A: the ITSF just cut it from their program. They feel it is not a program that they could maintain over the long term, because as more and more federations join, the more expensive that becomes.

They are relying on the country federations to raise the funds to send their players, and honestly that's the way it should be - it just doesnt work out well for some countries - like ours - due to the timing of TSAC being new, and not having any funds.

This is the same for the world cup in 2010 - the ITSF is not planning to pay for anything - if they get sponsorship, then they will, but they are relying on the country federations to raise the dough - and only regular member federations can participate, so we'll have to fix that before then too - if we want to send a team.

Eric i have been thinking about the world championships quite a bit lately and i have been thinking that you might pass on a message to the ITSF. not just as a player but as a federation.

I think that the ITSF should be paying for the #1 player of the top 16 countries to be competing at the world championships. Because truthfully that's what this tournament represents world competition of the best player(s) representing there countries.

Just having the top 16 players doesn't signify the top 16 countries participating. Therefor its not a world championship tournament. Do you agree? Its just a master series invitational tournament with the best players.

What you say makes a lot of sense.

and mostly the world championships is like that already. . every country can send their national champions - but the way they have it structured, the top 16 get paid trips - and nothing is going to change for this year.

we'll see how it goes for next year.

I'm trying to start up a plan that might be able to help us pay for our national champions to go this year. Let's see how that goes.

Taha asks in the exec thread...

>Does anyone know if Mario even wants to go this year? Or Moya? I heard that she'd hung up her competitive wraps for a while

Yes and no. Still been going to tournaments, but not feeling very competitive. Since the men changed, I was having a tough time with them and it kinda changed my outlook on foosball over the last year. Wasn't having fun trying to be competitive, so I started to play more for fun. Since they are good again I've been playing better and feeling like playing more competitively, but all that aside...

The only way I can go to Italy is if it was paid for. I haven't played enough qualifying tournaments to get into the top 8, so the only way I would qualify is if I won at worlds, which of course we won't know til the end of sept.

So, I dunno. Seems kinda weird to me to send someone who is just willing to pay for it because then we don't send our best and what will that say about Canada when competing in Italy?? I know that sounds horrible, but that's what it's all about. To put your country on the proverbial foosball map.

What do ya do??

*hugs*

Moya

"Seems kinda weird to me to send someone who is just willing to pay for it...."

EXACTLY.....mind you, even when they funded players trips the ITSF still had no way of ensuring that they got the best players from each country.
