I sent in an email to valley, and Dave Courington was supposed to get back to me to 'discuss the details' of our little qualifier. There doesnt seem to be a problem with it - he'd just like to work things out before hand. He should get back to me this week. as for uniforms. I'm thinking we'll go with the U-20 World Cup Canada Gear - that i linked before 1 Jacket and 1 Jersey and I think we can use the world cup pants that we had from before, we all had 2 pair each, so i think we'd have enough to go around for those that made the team. I cant seem to find a full track suit that comes with canada already on it. At sport check its buy 1 get 2nd item at 1/2 price - and here in Victoria (where some of the U-20 world cup was held) the store has so much left over gear its silly. So i was thinking to get the most savings, i could buy all the gear, and bring it with me (i'd just need sizes from everyone) - you'll have to pay me in advance (paypal works) - plus i'm toying with the idea that if someone pays for their gear and doesnt make the team, then I can buy back their gear - or at least the jacket (its the most expensive one), and maybe we can use the jackets at further events - cause this is going to get a bit silly for the players to keep buying new stuff every tournament. so who is seriously thinking of entering the qualifier? I'm in - Mario! are you planning on entering with Kane? I'll need a partner then. Does anyone know how to get incontact with Julie and Audrey? Do they know what is happening? |

Where will be the qualifier? and When? |

We dont know all the details yet, but what we do know is this: The qualifier will be in Las Vegas - at the tornado world championships, some time before the ITSF Team event starts. Either Wednesday night (sept 26), or Thursday morning (Sept 27). I'm talking with the event organizers to figure out what exact time it will be. I'll try to nail down the exact time as soon as possible, because i realize this does have an impact on when people will book their flights / hotel. |

I have put a lot of thought into this tournament. I have finally decided not to enter the world cup team event. I just got off the phone with Kane and he also will not be entering the team event. We are both wanting to do well in Open Doubles and Open Singles. Of course he wants to win Semi Doubles aswell. That is very important to us. We will be representing Canada in the Open events. So whoever is deciding to qualify Good Luck. Represent Canada well. Mario Ariganello |

Mario/Kane, It would be a shame if you gents did not try out for (and subsequently make) the team. You both have better than solid games, but more importantly is the experience factor of both: 1) Previous experience - of the World Cup and other international competitions that you can bring to the team and share with the new members of the team. 2) Current/Future experience - since there will be new members on the team, it would be invaluable for Canadian foos to take the opportunity to create and strengthen relationships that build a solid team. Something that I saw was lacking in Germany for us. We have the window here to do that, and honestly, without the two of you participating, we will lose most of the benefit we could've gained. Now that I've duly expressed the 'Canadian foosball citizen/coach/visionary' interest, I'll add a bit of my personal opinions: I can fully understand how personal interest/choices can sway decisions like these. At Vegas, I made a choice to play in Vifa. While I did well and was very pleased with those results, the effort expended on those events took enough off my game for the rest of the weekend and impacted my results (Kane and I should have been playing in the finals  ), which I am certainly disappointed in. So, I can fully understand if you want to focus on your other events.However, until recently, the odds were in favor that I was not going to Worlds (new kid to the troupe this summer); but the family appears to be settling in, so it now looks like I'll be going. With that said, I would relish another chance to play with you on team Canada (....if..... I make the team), or at the very least support you guys while playing. I also think it would make sense if the team were to balance out the playing time a little so we don't kill everyone before the rest of the tournament commences. Just some of my thoughts... |

So how are we going to set up this qualifier? Is it going to be doubles or singles. Or both When does the team have to be enlisted into the tournament? How many players are going to be attending the World Championships? I hope everyone gets there packages ahead of time cause the rates will go up. You can pay through pay pal on the vifa web site. Not that it means anything to most of you out there but for what its worth I too will be attending the qualifier. I think worlds is a perfect venue. Having said that I do agree with darrel/kane/mario that playing extra events takes its toll on a player. At the HOFC this year I finished in the finals of the VIFA team, doubles, and singles events. All three events occurred at the beginning of the tournament. As a result there was a noticeable mental fatigue that affected both my partners (Darrel and Eric) and myself in the USTSA events as the weekend wore on. |

The qualifer will be as outlined in the proposal. for men , its doubles only - it will be a round robin of some type. Depending on the number of teams that enter. for women, it'll be singles only - round robin again. I have not recieved the call from Dave Couringtin to work out the details as to when we can run this, and when we have to have our roster in. Yes Audrey, everyone has to buy their uniform before they know they've made the team. It does seem a little backwards, true. but its the best we'd be able to do giving the fact that we dont know who will be on the team until the qualifier is over at Worlds - and by then its kinda to late to be ordering shirts, etc. I'm offering to buy back the jackets for the players that don't make the team. The girls will have to wear the same jackets as the men, but the underlying shirt and skirt/pant can and most likely will be very different. They just have to say Canada on them, and match our color scheme - red, white, and black. All the women have to have the same shirt and bottoms. you know come to think of it. If only 3 women show up (as we currently understand it only you, julie, and moya are coming)- all the women are going to be on the team. its just a matter of who's going to be the female spare/alternate. The team consists of 2 women and 6 men, with 1 female and 1 male spare. Its up to the team/captain as to which 2 females will actually play in a given match - the next match, 2 different females can play. So congratulations!! you're on the team. B-) If you could, could you co-ordinate with moya and julie as to what shirt / bottoms you're going to wear - if you leave it up to me, you'll end up wearing a soccer jersey, and moya would throw a fit. |

Matt and I haven't finished our conversation on whether it's a good idea for him to try out for the ITSF or not. I just got over convincing him the idea had merit, and I realized I hadn't taken into account he has amateur to play in (re-read all posts regarding burn-out if you don't get it). We will chat some more with this in mind to decide whether we are playing together. (Eric - What the above means is - I might tell him to focus on the other events in which case I could pit for you ......... or vice versa  ) |

It might be late wednesday night. how to determine male spare, proposal states: "The top 3 teams will earn spots on the team. One person from the 4th place team can be used as a reserve." not exactly clear who or how that choice is made - I think the players already on the team should vote who on the 4th place team is the spare. oh wait. that's not fair. no voting - no picking. bad Eric. let them play for it. |

Eric, there's a decent chance that only one of myself and Olavo may make it, in which case I'm sure either one of us would be more than happy to play with you (assuming you still need a partner). I think we'll know by this Tuesday... re: flights, I think Toronto flights make it tough to get in to Vegas before 11pm on the Wednesday night, so Thursday would work better. |

I've just noticed the U-20 world cup gear has been moved off the front racks to the back of the store here in Victoria - so the gear might not be around for long. I did find that umbro has just released some pretty good Canada gear - and i can get a bunch of it here in town. Its not from a national chain - its at a place called sport traders. It would end up being cheaper to get a jacket and soccer jersey - but i'd have to order it - and everyone give me their sizes and send me their money - or pay me onsite. what do people think? have you checked locally, can you get the U-20 gear from sport check in your area. someone let me know k. |

I went to a store called si-vu-play they have regular t-shirt that are on sale for $9.99 they have canada on the front with a soccer ball. On the back of them they say soccer equiped addidas on them. Just thought i would run this by everyone. There no jersey but they do the trick. |

I personally dont like t-shirts for playing foos in.. For me its gotta me something breathable. But if i'm in the minority here then that's cool, cause yea, t-shirts are cheaper - even the under 20 gear there were some t-shirts for way less than the jerseys. and then maybe we could get two of em. cause it is a multi-day event. what does everyone else (who is seriously considering entering the qualifier) think? and ladies. how's the outfits going? any progress to report? I think we still need to all have jackets that match though (both the boys and girls) |

The ITSF wants us to have track suits and shirts - that's a track suit jacket - a track suit pant - and multiple shirts - its a multi-day event i'm hoping to get away with just 1 shirt and a jacket, and we'll re-use the pants from the world cup. I dont think its stupid, i think it gives some class to the sport. |

I've been putting many calls into valley/dynamo - the only number i have is an international sales person (Cheryl Sartin), she's been helpful, and has been trying to get dave to contact me, but so far he has not. She has told me there is some problem with our proposal, but is not clear on what. I left a message with her on friday to please get back to me with more details, especially if we cant do the qualifier at worlds for some reason - but i cant imagine why - unless they have to have our roster thursday morning - that would suck - cause i know many people - especially from out east dont arrive till late wednesday night. I know of 3 teams for sure that are in the qualifier - not including my team - as darrel has told me he cant make it - so i'm still As for uniforms, i bought one of the jerseys i posted before, and tried it out, and it didnt breath as nicely as i had hoped - i'm looking at other options right now - but if we cant find anything, that stuff will do. As a last ditch resort, i could end up buying a bunch of stuff, and then just letting those that make the team buy it off me if they want. |

That might not be a problem - as there is only the 3 of you, and there's probably not much chance for conflicts. unless. any of you ladies are planning on playing in any of these events: VIFA Doubles, Pro Singles, Masters Singles, or Semi-Pro doubles. ok, i just talked with Dave C. and as long as we get our roster in by 4pm Thursday, we can do whatever we need to form our team. So i'll make this the official announcement: Door's open at 10:00am. MEN's qualifer will start at 10:30am, Thursday, Sept 27th - signup's end at 10:30 am sharp - if you show up after 10:30 with a uniform on, i dont care - you will not be allowed into the qualifer - but you'll look good i'm sure. B-) Those that know me, they already know that I can be rather strict of with type of stuff, so get there before 10:30. We must be done by 4pm, so anyone that wants to can enter semi-dubs without a problem. (it starts at 4pm) I'm hoping to finish by 2pm, so our players can play in Pro Singles and Master's Singles. |

No i would say the bottoms do not have to have canada written on them. just the tops. and the tops can have a flag or something instead - it doesnt have to say "Canada". Infact, i've seen nice little canadian flags at Mountain Equipment Co-op, that could be used to sew onto a shirt - and that would be good. We havent decided on what jacket we are going to use yet. Once we will, i'll let everyone know. you'll be able to either buy it locally, or send me the money (paypal), give me your sizes, and i can buy them for you. |

The shirts are not bad, but are still $25 for a shirt, where if we go with a soccer type jersey, then it's only a little more money. like $5-$10 depending. ITSF says that the team has to have track suits - but i'm not going that far. We are only going to have the following: Canada Jacket Canada shirt matching black pants / skirt - does NOT have to have logo on it - but be the same as those of the same gender. So girls must have matching bottoms, men must have matching bottoms: There is no fee for ITSF Team event. Worlds Package deal can be paid online through paypal - see http://www.vifa.com/USTSAregistration.asp Moya: correct, right now only you are audrey are attempting to qualify, so you are both in and can show up at 7pm. Moya: Yes, the World cup stuff you wore would be fine. Maybe audrey can borrow julie's clothes? hoping they would be the same size might be wishful thinking though - let me know as soon as possible if that is going to work, cause then i can stop looking for girl gear. Mario - i'm thinking we'll just re-use our world cup gear pants - they had zipper on bottom, does that give you enough room? I have 4 pair (2 medium and 2 X large) - anyone else still have theirs? olavo should have 2, mario should have 2 as well - that would be enough. Or am i dreaming? I'm going to price some stuff out, and probably do this taking orders, its just cheaper if we get it all at once. Then to enter the qualifier, it'll just cost $10 + cost of gear. The $10 was something that Taha specified, i'll have to look up what its for again, but i think its for TSAC membership. |

the event does run 2-3 days (if we keep winning), so the number of shirts you want to get is up to you. The men just have one shirt - seeing as it would hard to ask people to buy 2-3 shirts even though they might not make the team. Remember as well, that we'll only play after 7pm on each of those days, so its not like its going to be full days. Plus there is this cool thing called a washing machine - do they have those out east?? B-) oh by the way, for all those people that needed me to pick up gear for them, its all purchased, and i'll have it with me in vegas. You must pay me back before you are allowed to enter. no money - no entry! |

Everything is ready, but we only have one shirt and one pants... pants = 26$ shirt = 12$ (there's a little problem with the shirts, that's why they are that cheap.. but you'll see, it's a really small problem, I tried them and they are ok!!!) I didn't want to pay too expensive for an uniform, that's why I got cheap ones! I hope it will be ok for you! Can'T wait, only one week left before Vegas!!!!! |

It's a collared shirt, red with a Canadien Flag on it.. It's a girl shirt, of course! Pants are black, long, in cotton and they are tight, but It will be ok for the tournament. But They aren't as tight as the world cup pants hehe Do you really need a picture? I can take one if you really want to see. |

ok, you're right i dont need to see pictures. the shirt sounds great. hopefully the pants look athletic in some way. I only say this cause the ITSF has pictures up of what's acceptable and what's not: http://www.table-soccer.org/rules/dresscode.php5 remember to bring some running or athletic shoes (something not dressy or high heeled). i'm probably being overly careful here, but there's been so much discussion about dress code at this thing, i just wouldnt want us to get distracted by that while we're down there. anyone got a big Canada Flag they can bring to worlds with them in time for the open ceremonies (6pm thursday)? The organizers want every country to bring their own flag, and an mp3 of their national anthem. I can find the mp3, but i thought if someone already had a nice big flag, that would be great if we could use that. |

Finally, the last pants had 10% spandex in it, so I returned them to the store only to be sure that it will be ok at worlds. I choose another black pants, now with cotton/polyester, 34$ including taxes. I took them at Foot Locker, we'll be sure it will be ok |

I bought a big Canada flag at the Bay today, so no worries there. Just an fyi, i have a suprise/prize for the guys that qualify for the team if (and when) we make it to the 2nd or 3rd days. |

Just a reminder! Door's open at 10:00am. MEN's qualifer will start at 10:30am, Thursday, Sept 27th - signup's end at 10:30 am sharp - if you show up after 10:30 with a uniform on, i dont care - you will not be allowed into the qualifer - but you'll look good i'm sure. B-) Those that know me, they already know that I can be rather strict of with type of stuff, so get there before 10:30. We must be done by 4pm, so anyone that wants to can enter semi-dubs without a problem. (it starts at 4pm) I'm hoping to finish by 2pm, so our players can play in Pro Singles and Master's Singles. |

Do we really have to ware our shirts for the qualifier. Your going to have a lot of scouts around us bringing a lot of attention on to us not like that matters to me. but seriously. Cant we just wear them when we have to. I dont want to be sweating with them right of the bat. I cant wait Open Singles and Doubles Champ in 6 days. |

Good point. I actually didnt mean for people to have to be wearing the gear in the qualifier - but they have to show me that they have it. Remember its shirt and JACKET. and for everyone that has some, bring your world cup pants - we're going to be wearing those as part of our 'uniform'. |
