Topic: Change in how we go forward.

Author: foosghost Original Message Posted: May 6 2008 1:51AM

I've decided to change my manangement style, and see if we get more things done.

I'm going to be asking exec members to come up with 'straw-men proposals' or outlines of some of the things we need to get done this year.

These straw-men proposals are just that: proposals, or a starting point for the rest of the exec to work with - and discuss.

I think the following things need to be done this year:

1. We need to figure out how we're going to raise the money to pay for ITSF membership dues.

2. We need to figure out how we're going to name our national champions this year - this could be as simple as naming the highest placing canadians at some well known tournament in the future, or arranging a Canada wide series of qualifying tournaments - followed by a National Championship.

3. We need to improve our website - i've taken this one.

4. We need to come up with a ranking system.

5. We need to register TSAC as a non-profit org - ITSF requirement.

6. We need to start discussions with the Canadian Olympic Committee - or sport canada, and figure our what we'll need to do to get table-soccer recognized as an official sport in Canada - ITSF requirement.

So exec members, i'm going to give you a chance for one week to volunteer to take on one of the above tasks. If after a week, we have no volunteers, i'm going to assign it to someone.

On points 1, 2, and 4 - we just need something put down on paper, so that we can stand it up in front of the exec, and the exec (and players) can discuss it and make changes, and go forward - its just a starting point - something to work with.

Points 5 and 6 - are just things that need to get done.

If anyone (exec member or not) wants to volunteer to put something down on paper for one of the points above, please say so, we'd love the help.

I wouldnt imagine it would take more than a few hours a week to come up with a proposal - and i'd like to get them in by the end of the month.

if i've missed an important task we should do this year, please let me know.

I'll take on 5 after I get back from vacation.

So far this year, through TSAC fees, we've raised 350$ for the ITSF fee. We're only halfway there. We desperately need #1.

Michael has offered to take #2.

and Julien has offered to take an additional task:

#6 Wow we're going to assemble our 2010 World Cup team, and possibly raise funds to send the team as well.

ok, as i promised (or threatened), i've assigned the following tasks to an executive member (or noted what task an exec member volunteered for) Deadline for each of these is JUNE 6 (3 weeks).
We just need to have something down on paper - an idea - a starting point - something, or a report on your progress (for #5 and #6).

1. [Brian] We need to figure out how we're going to raise the money to pay for ITSF membership dues.

2. [Michael] We need to figure out how we're going to name our national champions this year - this could be as simple as naming the highest placing canadians at some well known tournament in the future, or arranging a Canada wide series of qualifying tournaments - followed by a National Championship.

3. [Eric] We need to improve our website - i've taken this one.

4. [Jose] We need to come up with a ranking system.

5. [Taha] We need to register TSAC as a non-profit org - ITSF requirement.

6. [Sean] We need to start discussions with the Canadian Olympic Committee - or sport canada, and figure our what we'll need to do to get table-soccer recognized as an official sport in Canada - ITSF requirement.

7. [Julien] How we're going to assemble of 2010 World Cup team, and possibly how we're going to raise funds to send the team as well.

i've sent the following email to the rest of the exec:

I’ve posted who got assigned / volunteered for what tasks.
They are posted here: http://www.tablesoccer.ca/view_topic.asp?ParentID=42957&x=4&domain=EXRO&searchterm=

Due date for a straw-man or status report is June 6. If you will not be able to produce anything by that time, please let me know asap, so we can assign it to someone else, and discuss you’re continued involvement in the exec B-)

If you have any questions please ask – if you need to bounce ideas around, I’d be happy to discuss things as well.

slight change.

Brian wants to take on #5 - as Taha is out of the o*bleep*ry for a while.

Since Brian has moved over to #5, that leaves #1 (how we're going to raise funds) left vacant.

And given the fact that i got a call from the ITSF at 7am saturday morning - asking for the ITSF membershipo fees (they said their financial fiscal year ends in August - and they need to have the money before then). I told them we'd have it to them in a month (it was 7am - sorry)

We have to pay $500 euro, which is about $780 CDN - we already have raised $350 CDN from the Quebec tournament and ottawa tournaments from last year.

Given the timeline we have to work in (1 month) we cant wait for a proposal to be put forward and then discussed, so i'm going ahead with an idea to just ask for donations at this point.
