I read that Fred Gower won the DYP. Congrats Fred. I heard from Gary the tables are warped and the new balls are very light and bouncy. If anyone else hears some results, post them here. Thanks |

Managed to watch three matches last night on netfoos. All were Team Canada vs Team USA Dunn vs Adkisson - Adkisson won Mario A. vs Pappas - Pappas won Botros/Mario I. vs Yore/Diaz - Botros/Mario I. won Matt played great and didn't let the lip from Diaz distract him. |

Thanks everyone. it was a really big thrill. My share is $350 plus a trophy. They'll be burying me with that sucker! Team Canada played great. In my opinion, the second best team here. The U.S. team is absolutely amazing to watch in person. I introduced myself to Frederico as "Fred in Shanghai" and he replied. "Oh, so you are Fred Gower, yes?". My head grew bigger than the Grinches heart. Ha ha! The numbers are down but the talent is amazing. I think there were 8 or 9 international teams. 90 something teams for open dubs. The tables feel unlevel and the playing surface feels very different (I heard back to a previous manufacturer). Rods are super light and balls were very slick. Lots of complaints. Next years tables have a silicone strip for a return strip. Seems to work fine and banking is much better. Wish all you guys were here. Thanks for the lessons Tuano. Regards, Fred |

That's funny fred. I get the feeling that numbers are up compared to last year. But that's just my perception. I heard 103 teams in open dubs. And I know there were 11 international teams in attendance. Which was more than last year. But yes. Balls are fast and slippery at times. Some tables are still warped but most are fine now (or is it the other way around). Hard to say when I shoot a rollover. And isn't the grinche's heart really small? |

Yes we beat Mario and Eric in the qualifier. I will tell you all about it when I see you guys in person. To be honest I was really disappointed with the off the table attitudes of some of the Canadian team but will not start a flame war here. I respect all of them as players and always pull for them to win in team competitions. If I had made it on the team I was planning on giving my seat up anyway in the best interest of the team. I didn't really know Ang Karmnis very well before this event but got a chance to speak with him and found him to be a really nice guy. I also got a chance to spend some time with Scott Moreland, Chad Hanson and Dieter Thiele. I had a really nice meal with Eddie Gartman who joined our group and told us all sorts of stories and was just a pleasure to hang out with. I try to copy the 5 bars of Chad Hanson, Jeep Perrie, Dieter Thiele and Tom Spear. I got to meet Chad Hanson and Dieter Thiele while I was here and both of them gave me a hands on clinic to help me out. Scott Moreland helped me a lot with my defensive series. Tony Spredeman answered all the questions that I had about what I was doing on my snake shot and confirmed or corrected some of my assumptions. Regards, Fred |

Wonderful tournament. Got to play against Stars like Fredrico 3 games, with and against Tony Sprederman for like 8 games, Trevor Park 2 games, Kane Gabrielle 6 games, so cool. Awesome guys. Played other good players as well and got to play my guy Tony Tong in tournament match and also made a friend for life in Fred. For the record. Could not have finished 4th in Semi Pro doubles without you Jeff Allen. No doubt about it!! I was playing foward, but all the credit to my outstanding partner. I cannot stress that enough. Jeff, If you had a better parnter than me you probably would have won Semi Doubles. I've never seen you so composed and diciplined before, you elevated my game. Jeff remember that match against those Japanese players when we almost lost it, if it wasn't for you going foward that last game!! Dodged a bullet there baby!! Just to give you all an idea, the whole way he blocked 67-70% scored 1-2 goals from the back every GAME. Passing percentage to my 3 bar 90%. You were for sure the best goalie in that division and if i'm not mistaken there was over 100 teams in semi's. It was SWEEET A.S.S playing with you. Thanks Man. |

I was pretty disapointed with the payouts however. Eg. Semi Pro doubles. 128 teams. Let's say minimum $50 per person entry fee so that gives us around $13000. Total cash payouts for semi doubs were like $4000. We got $500 for 4th place. lol. |

On another note...after looking thru the charts I noticed a familiar occurrence. In preparation for the event, you and your buddies practice & strategize for untold hours. Then you pay too much for your airfare, hotel room and entrance fees. Then once in Vegas you enter an event with 70 other teams from around the world. Then in the first round you get to play...your buddies from back home. Robert G / Nelson defeated David / Allan Cortez, first round Am Doubles – I feel your pain. That always happened back when I went to majors and it sucks for both teams, IMHO. (btw, David you should have mail from me – or send me a PM by clicking my name above, thx) |

Dave you played great as well, and always played your own game (which was slower then everybodys in the room lol). I really had no complaints at all and would play with you again gladly. (Dave was able to pass and score through all the semi's - cept the japanese and tommy bagley! - maybe its the girls). The payouts do suck, I really don't understand the increased entry fees and lower payouts, it feels like a scam in some ways. The tables played fine after getting used them, the first day they felt a bit bouncy and uneven, but as always, you need to adjust. I didn't have too many problems cept for the occasional dropped pass. Balls were a bit slick, but I am used to that playing in Vancouver (ice balls baby). The tournaments would be better if not for the easily avoidable problems that make the event look unprofessional (playing pro dubs world championship final on the floor (not in the pits)). It was nice to see everyone down there - my body held up for the tournament eating only one meal a day - but by sunday my brain was fried. And yea - i hate playing other canadians - always a mental block that makes you not really want to play against them (a family member type respect maybe??) - could just be me tho. It is the worst to go down there and play them, especially those from your local. |

Jeff took Terry Moore to 5 games. Way to Go Jeff. That was so much fun watching you play him! Dave's play when on was super. I think that Dave will be tremendous when he has a chance to work on some of the things that he learned about his game while he was there. I think both Tony and Rico complemented him on his 5 and 3 bars. Next year he will be back there with a pro level 2 bar or 2 to 5 series as well and pick up some hardware for sure. Nelson and Robert played really well in the games that I saw and they are always fun to hang with. It was really great that they made it down. It was too bad that there were so many European pro masters in the Rookie events. I realize that it benefitted our players as well but still there was nothing Rookie about the Rookie events this year. Eric Dunn's 2 to 5 passing is phenomenal. I am totally jealous. The rest of your game is rock solid too but the 2 to 5 series is a difference maker. Kane and Mario are super powerful. I didn't know how good the other guys from Ontario were as well. The Alberta guys are always powerful. Nice to meet Paul from Regina as well. I hope that you are all well and really miss playing there in B.C. I hope to see you all sometime, somewhere. Hey Congrats to David Ahn for your success in Vegas. Also I thought that Kane, Mario, and Eric Dunn all played solid. Good job boys. Oh and I almost forgot Mario I, Nu, and Kelly (nice roller!) also played well. Sorry Fred I didn’t see how you were playing. Vegas this year was a lot of fun for me. One highlight for Mario and I was definitely ripping Tom Yore and Bob Diaz in the team event. Diaz was rattled enough that he had to try and trash talk to try and slow us down (thanks for the text Simon I didn’t realize they had audio). Didn’t work though and we closed them out. I think it was the only win for team Canada against the US. Mind you Mario and I didn’t have to play against any of the “big three” (Tommy, Tony, and Billy) but they are respected PM’s none the less. Other highlights included taking Ryan Moore to sweat game he beat me 5-3 but I had a chance to make it 4-4. That’s how it goes sometimes. Playing Terry Rue was a fun and classy experience; you need to play pretty fast to keep up with that guy defensively. Beating Meqdad Sewatti and Shitinhoffer (UAE and German PM’s) in open singles was really fun because they both get pretty excited when they are losing. In fact I find a lot of PM’s get pouty when losing. The biggest high for me this weekend was playing with Darrel Popowich in pro-doubles (finished 4th! Should have been top 3 ). The fact that Darrel was humble enough to let a semi play forward for him was amazing and we ripped the field up pretty bad. The best match we had was against Herrington and Hagerman to play for 9th or better. They owned us in the first game and beat us something like 5-2. They were winning in the second 3-1 and I decided to get my head out of my A$$ and shot lights out and played great 5-bar def. Getting the final goal, however, turned out to be a battle and neither forward was getting it done. That’s when Darrel, the cyborg, Popowich decided to crush the biggest, best timed, pull two bar shot I have ever seen. I think I lost my mind for a second and I must have leapt 3 feet off the ground when it happened! After that I told myself that I had to man up and give my goalie a break. By this point there was at least 20-30 people watching the match. Hagerman and I traded goal for goal. We were both hitting some ridiculous three bar shots. Ask me to hit some of them again and I would call you crazy. It came down to 4-4 my drop. Passed and shot the deepest push roller of my life to win. Thanks again Darrel! |

Mario and Kane got the match announcers to announce their team name as "Too Hot" or was it "Too Hot and Too sexy"? Anyways it was flickn hilarious. "Smith and Reid" vs "Too Hot" table number 6..... Nice touch fellas. |

fred: thanks for the props on my 2 to 5. I've only been seriuosly doing it for a month now but so far I like it. I'm not as good at lose ball grabs in singles as other pro masters and my wrist/hand gets real sore pounding shots out of the back so I'm liking the fact that I can stay competitive by doing 2-5 and I've setup the series so I never have to move my 5 Matt: congratz on a solid weekend your showing some great consistency of late keep it up Darrel: stay out of my bracket dammit. Way to play the strong silent type of a coach Dave: I honestly don't know if we'll ever be friends again but I don't like how we left things but nor do I expect anything to change |
