Andy.. can you tell me how you're planning on determining the rankings for this tourney?

As usual, every tourney has issues in regards to who's what rank. (ie) would it be based on who were Pro's at the last COFC or Foozapalooza etc?
or is it USTSA points? or some other method?

Author: Bush Doctor Reply #2 Posted: Apr 13 2009 12:20PM

How many tables will there be?
will there be trophies for top 3 in non pro & pro?
singles & doubles events?

Author: BriL Reply #3 Posted: Apr 13 2009 2:26PM

Any player who would be considered a mid semi or higher under the previous classification are considered pro. Beginners ,rookie and low semi are non pro. Jack H, Paul G, Mike ,Roger,Lance, Chris D, Ben, Rick K, Tim W, Craig W ,David A etc are considered pro. Any questions on players send me an e-mail to calgaryfoos@hotmail.com. I may need to confer with the local clubs to get feedback on a player.

We are not planning to have any trophies for the events. 100% payback with a potential of added money.

Author: BriL Reply #4 Posted: Apr 13 2009 2:36PM

Pro events will be 2/3 both sides. No Pro 2/3 winners, possibly race to 7 on the losers. We want to make sure we run the events on time so the folks from out of town can get home at a reasonable time.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #5 Posted: Apr 13 2009 3:01PM

Is this the tournament that's meant to replace foosapalooza? In other words, most likely the only western canada tournament of the year?

Author: .Garry Reply #6 Posted: Apr 13 2009 3:15PM

I know that Will in Edmonton is talking about having a tourney here-don't know the time frame though.

Foosapalooza is a lost cause.

Author: BriL Reply #7 Posted: Apr 13 2009 3:24PM

This is our first tournament. Will have to access it after it is finished. Could possibly run these a few times a year. As Garry mentioned I know that Will is intersted in running a tourney also.

Author: supergifted1 Reply #8 Posted: Apr 13 2009 3:53PM

ill go if there are trophies, you only need two, one for 1st place open singles and one for 1st place open doubles

Author: PaulG Reply #9 Posted: Apr 13 2009 4:56PM

Hey Brian:

Not sure why (mid to high) Semi-pros are now considered Pro... but thanks for the prompt answer.

Author: tony Reply #10 Posted: Apr 13 2009 6:04PM

brian,

get Ivor to help you with trophies.. or get the bar to pitch in... it's not that expensive.

and are your guys' dates set in stone? would the long weekend be better for travellers?

Author: hardboiled Reply #11 Posted: Apr 13 2009 6:19PM

Tony,

Dates are firm - it's been announced.

Trophies = Less money paid out to players. It's that simple.

We made a choice this time for no hardware.

Let's wait to hear what the feedback is. If there is enough demand for it - plans can always change.

We'll be capturing images and results of this one for calgaryfoos.com....

Author: .Garry Reply #12 Posted: Apr 13 2009 6:40PM

Is there a way that this an be posted on the Regina site? I believe they have a more active scene than Saskatoon.

Author: BriL Reply #13 Posted: Apr 13 2009 6:49PM

Hey Garry, Paul has already posted it in Regina.

Players who are eligible to play in no pro can play in open events also. The price is $15.

Author: Red Pepper Reply #14 Posted: Apr 13 2009 7:21PM

It would be nice to get some rough estimates of the payouts if thats possible. It could help motivate out of towners. I understand that it hards to do when your not guaranteeing anything.

Author: supergifted1 Reply #15 Posted: Apr 13 2009 7:40PM

i like money but , you buy dinner with it and its gone. the trophy lasts forever.

Author: Asian Sensation Reply #16 Posted: Apr 13 2009 8:05PM

Wow, a tournament I can finally have a chance to attend!!! So, what's my ranking Brian/Andy?

Author: Viper Reply #17 Posted: Apr 13 2009 10:30PM

We understand that getting trophies takes away from the total prize pool, but having already looked at flights

315 From Abbotsford
377 From Vancouver
277 From Victoria

You didn't post the hotel cost but I'm assuming 90-100

60 For entry fees

So for us BC players anyways were looking at 400-500$ to come to this event.

I'm going to guess 60 players show up, might be low, but it sounds about right to me.

I'm not including the DYP since I wouldn't be able to make it

30 No-pros 30 Pros

Assuming everyone plays in all the events they can

Is the No-pro Event prize money without having anything kicked in. Same for singles and doubles.

1 250
2 150
3 50

And the pro event

1 650
2 300
3 150
4 100
5/6 50

*of note these are my estimates and do not relate to actual payouts in any way*

Regardless of all the costs associated, last time I checked no one is in foosball for the money.

You would need 18 Engraved items
http://www.cheapsoccertrophies.com/index-exec/section/category/product/7237
I think this would work perfect 18 would cost 82$ and they are engraved with 3 lines.

Thats just over a dollar per player.

Author: S. Edwards Reply #18 Posted: Apr 13 2009 10:40PM

Looks like I can make it for Singles and Doubles but probably not for the DYP.

Author: spinner Reply #19 Posted: Apr 14 2009 3:20AM

Brian.... how many tables are there??? try to make best out of 5 for open and out of 3 for loser side.

Author: mEthOdmAn Reply #20 Posted: Apr 14 2009 12:23PM

i am a rookie?

Author: .Garry Reply #21 Posted: Apr 14 2009 12:34PM

lol Mike

I believe you have been pro for longer than me.

Author: Bush Doctor Reply #22 Posted: Apr 14 2009 12:59PM

Come on! you got to have trophies, money just goes down the drain, like some said earlier, I play for the trophy! just one glance at the trophy brings back good foosin memories.I had some made for myself, Ang, Darrel & Greg after Foosapalooza last year. Their alot happier they have something to show for their hard work!
I could probably get all the trophies for $280.
thats 18 trophies.maybe the bar can chip in something.
Or charge everyone $2 extra per event.(dyp excluded) that pays for 40% of the trophies.
3 weeks is just the right amonut of time to get the trophies made. I'm going to phone them to see if they
have enough foosball men left first before we all get too excited.

Author: .Garry Reply #23 Posted: Apr 14 2009 1:32PM

I agree with having trophies- 1st/2nd/3rd-singles/doubles-no dyp

I understand that timing might be an issue now though.

Author: .Garry Reply #24 Posted: Apr 14 2009 1:37PM

BTW

Is Ivan Demelchuk an alias for Ivor Demello-sp????

Author: BriL Reply #25 Posted: Apr 14 2009 2:31PM

Thanks for all the feedback.

Looks like we will have 6 tables at a minimum for the event. As mentioned previously running the events on time is a priority. At present still looking at doing 2/3 both sides of open. Depending on turnout and how the events are going we could look at changing this.

Prize breakdown is totally dependant on how many entries there are. When we have a idea on the numbers of players attending we could give an approximate breakdown. As mentioned if there were trophies prizes would be reduced.

Author: .Garry Reply #26 Posted: Apr 14 2009 2:56PM

For trophies...

Have a $5 registration fee for the entire weekend-dyp excluded-This is easier than a per event fee and would be more realistic for a semi/beginner if they are entering both doubles and singles events, when a pro only enters 1 singles and 1 doubles.

just my 2 cents

Author: RezaREX Reply #27 Posted: Apr 14 2009 3:24PM

I really hope trophies are made. I know I don't speak for everyone but I would gladly take a prize cut to have trophies. As mentioned, no one here is playing foos for a living and it's nice to have something symbolizing your finish. Plus my 1st place Open Singles/Doubles trophy case is conspicuously empty at the moment.

Author: .Garry Reply #28 Posted: Apr 14 2009 3:32PM

Christian

At least you have a chance for the doubles...lol

Author: tony Reply #29 Posted: Apr 14 2009 5:33PM

there must be something in the snow in edmonton..either that or Christian's been playing too much bad poker..

Author: .Garry Reply #30 Posted: Apr 14 2009 5:40PM

We did get snow today- just haven't tasted it yet...lol

And I don't think Christian plays poker anymore. I play bad poker though, just not bad foosball.

Author: PaulG Reply #31 Posted: Apr 17 2009 11:31PM

What kind of deal did you guys figure out for the hotel? There are about 5-6 guys from Regina that may need some rooms.

Author: Aged Whine & Cheese Reply #32 Posted: Apr 18 2009 1:18AM

"We did get snow today- just haven't tasted it yet...lol"

Do you guys have a name for this tournament or is it just the Calgary Foosball Tournament?. I think it should have a name!

Author: what the Reply #37 Posted: Apr 22 2009 12:10PM

Simon will hug it and squeeze it and call it 'George'

Author: The Next One. Reply #38 Posted: Apr 24 2009 4:35AM

Just call it 'Foosapalooza "Calgary" 2009' just so if it gets held in another city in 2010 like Vancouver, you can call it 'Foosapalooza "Vancouver" 2010. The trophy i got just said 'Foosapalooza 2005'. just my 2cents

Author: The Next One. Reply #39 Posted: Apr 24 2009 4:52AM

I won't be attending Calgary for work reasons unfortunately but Good Luck to the tournament directors and players. May you have a successful tournament. Western Canada needs at least one prestigeous tournament to go to where the most talented players get together and compete. It is crucial for Canadian foosball for the future.I believe Tuan Phan is going from BC, hopefully Eric Dunn, western Canada's only male pro master will be attending as well. Hopefully this will spawn western Canada's tournaments attracting players from the east and from the States.

Author: Chaos_Plus_Three Reply #40 Posted: Apr 25 2009 12:12AM

The Alberta Open is the best name I think because at least the people who win it and so on will be able to fondly reefer to the event in a meaningful way.

Author: The Next One. Reply #41 Posted: Apr 25 2009 7:06AM

Do I know you?

Hey there, I've been busy with work and forgot that I can't log in thru Calgary or Ed, so I am on Saskfoos, amyways my question.. If there is 6 tables and a plethera of players (30+) for this mini tourney, are there only 2 categories of players PRO or NOT.? And what really is the difference between the 2? to quote:
" Any player who would be considered a mid semi or higher under the previous classification are considered pro. Beginners ,rookie and low semi are non pro. Jack H, Paul G, Mike ,Roger,Lance, Chris D, Ben, Rick K, Tim W, Craig W ,David A etc are considered pro. Any questions on players send me an e-mail to calgaryfoos@hotmail.com. I may need to confer with the local clubs to get feedback on a player."

Sorry for the long post as usual ther is a rank issue I just want those who travel ie: Van(however unlikely)Regina Saskatoon. have the proper info. Does a rookie that is capable of shooting a rollover as every rook learns considered a pro? I have an interest in this, not for me but a relative, and would not want them to be at their first ever tourney and because they learned a shot and basic 5 that they would be a pro and be humiliated in their games. **Sorry again, I can't e-mail from here as I am at work and probably would not be able to receive one back.**
