This tournament is officially announced now. The payout is $15,000, including $5000 which is added to the payouts. This means that on average foosball players will leave the event with more money than they spent to play in it.
The event will be run in a different format than the standard double elimination tournaments that players are used to. I think this will be a great improvement and allow for more games played total over the weekend.
For more information see the flier on http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/
Get excited Canada, Foosball is growing here and it will benefit out entire country from east to west.

FOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSBBBBALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time to start practicing!

So at first glance I thought it was going to be all the pro masters in the same group and pros same group and so on.
but its going to be like the world cup? then 1 or 2 pro masters per group a couple pros a couple semi pros and a couple rookies?
So how big is each group going to be?, how many groups? how will who goes into each group be decided?(I'd expect this to be a lottery system anything else would be unfair to this system)
I do plan on going, but would like these questions answered before I finalize anything.

Thanks for asking these questions. You are correct in that it will be several players from each rank in each group.
The size of the groups will be determined by the amount of entrants. If we have 40-60 people we will have groups of 6, so you play 5 games and then see which bracket you qualified for. If there is 80+ then probably just 4 people per group, so you would play 3 then see what bracket you qualified for. We will make sure to maximize our table time, so that all tables are being used as much as possible throughout the weekend, giving everyone the most table time possible.
As for the mix of players per group.. I'll give an example.
If there are 60 people in Open Sinles, each of the 10 groups would have 6 players. To make this easy lets say there are 10 pro masters, 20 pro, 20 semi pro, 10 rookies. I know that makes little sense for a turnout but it makes this easier for the example.
all 10 pro masters would be randomly drawn into groups, 1 PM per group. All 20 pro's would be draw randomly into groups, 2 Pros in each group, semi-pro's would randomly be drawn into each gropup and would have 2 per group, rookies would have the same process and have 1 per group. After each of the 6 players in each group had played all the other players in the group, the 3 with the most wins(best of 3) would move on. If there is a tie, the tiebreak would be least losses, if that is not enough it will be goals against.
Again, thank you for asking this question! If you need any other information just post.

On average or the majority? This too may impact my decision to come.

"On average or the majority?"
?????
Nathan...On average the majority of foosers will be above average...lol
Hope this helps

BTW Will
I would give up trying to justify yourself on the American foos board, alot of them are set in their ways and do not like change- and alot of them do like going to a tourney(Mary's) and playing 5 or 6 different events and placing low in the money in 2 of them...lol
The only Americans that may show are the top ranked PM's that are used to playing in 3 events per week and doing well in all of them.
Dave does have some good points coming from a PM though. The rooks and semis down there will probably not travel all this way a couple weeks after worlds(if there is one).
One question-or maybe two... If a semi pro pays for singles, and qualifies in the top bracket with the pm's and pros- and he is the only semi pro to qualify(unlikely, but hypothetically)does he automatically get 1st place(or better) semi money???

Garry, I agree that it's probably useless to argue with them, but the more time it spends on the board the better. Maybe we can get a few more people to attend out of it.

Ya i figured that the topic would be very controversial. I used a title that would get a lot of views and a topic that would get people to respond. Also I think that i have strong grounds to defend myself, as I really think that the tournament structure is good, and I don't think that any other events come even close for how good the payouts to entry fees are. Really I think it would be great to get a few Pro Masters out. It would help to improve Canadian foosball so much. Who doesn't want to play against a pro master?
Garry - if a semi pro qualifies for the top bracket, and is the only one, he will win the 1st place semi pro. If he wins more money in the open than in semi pro then he takes that money but loses the semipro payout. If he finishes, say 9th in open, and wins less than semi pro 1st. He keeps the 1st place semi pro money, and the money he would have won in open is added to the semipro payouts.

NearSide - the majority won't win money. I hope one day I can run tournaments that everyone gets paid to play, however that is a few sponsors down the road.
There are some VERY big sponsors interested in sponsoring tournaments right now. They are watching this event. If we get a big turnout and lots of publicity they will be on board for bigger tournaments next year. Support this one by coming, and hopefully win some cash while doing that.
