Pro Am draw.
Great playing last night everyone. Rick looked great shooting from the back, I am always impressed at how hard he hits the ball.
Garry, you must have some amazing teaching strategy, it seems like whoever plays with you is one of the best players at the tournament.
Next week is a BYP with an exception. You can't play with anyone that you have played with before. Everyone find a new partner some time between now and then. Feel free to use this as a partner thread too.

Hey Lindsey I don't think we've ever teamed up, you down?
"Garry, you must have some amazing teaching strategy, it seems like whoever plays with you is one of the best players at the tournament."
Thanks for the props- I do enjoy teaching new players-however with Rick it was defensive setup and motivational more than anything- It worried me a little right before we were to play Roger the 1st time- when I ask him how he normally does against him- the response I got was not optimum...lol but with a couple pointers and keeping it simple- HE ROCKED- and was the reason we pulled out the King Seat match.
GREAT JOB RICK
If I were to vote for yesterday's mvps it would be Rick-Blair- and Darnel- all players with limited or no tourney experience-great job to Will and Roger for coaching them to success!!!
Taking the newer players aside-like what i did with Darnel in the pickup games earlier-and giving them basic technique/strategy- is important- and something most of the pros do. If you do not do this they will either get frustrated and never come back, or take it upon themselves to learn(which for a recreational "sport" most newbies will not do).

"Hey Lindsey I don't think we've ever teamed up, you down?"
Too many jokes can be posted in response to this- so I will just leave it at that

I need a partner for Tuesday.

"Next week is a BYP with an exception. You can't play with anyone that you have played with before. Everyone find a new partner some time between now and then. Feel free to use this as a partner thread too."
Will- this is only referring to people u have played in BYP's together-not dyps-correct?
Hell yes I'm down. It's about time I play with someone in the top 10 :)
FWIW: I've never played with Christan, DYP or otherwise. The highest ranked player I've played with is 9th (Matt).
Desmond also played great. He scored and blocked as well as I could have hoped.
Me on the other hand... not so good. Turns out you can't master the euro in a month. Who knew?
lol- so u r saying Matt is high ranked player...lol
Who knew???
...not as much fun taking pot shots at him when he's in saskabush.
I'm betting on Lindsey & Christian next week.
I am looking for a partner to play in this weeks BYP. Not counting on being in the money, but I will definitely play hard. I can't seem to ever place in the weekly tournaments.

Sorry for the triple post, I just realized that on my browser (safari), that every time I hit the back button, it "resends the form" which means that it just reposts it when I hit the back button. I hate computers sometimes. I apologize once again.

Des
You should team up with Darnel. He's a good defenceman and with your improving 5 bar would make a good team.
Just my 2 cents
BTW
" Not counting on being in the money, but I will definitely play hard. I can't seem to ever place in the weekly tournaments."
Too funny- your honesty is refreshing!!!!

Garry,
Interestiing, I never even though of playing forward. I just always banked on playing back every week until I "earn" playing forward. I'll have to check with Darnell, he has played more foosball than I have. Usually Tuesday night is his biking night with his work friends. Maybe I can convince him to play foosball instead.
BTW
Great to see you giving all the newer guys advice. That's one of the reasons I keep coming back - all the pros don't have the "I'm too good for you attitude" instead they try to teach from what experience they have. Thanks pros!
In days gone by- alot of the pros had that bad attitude. A semi intelligent pro would realize that if they do not help/assist the new player base they will soon have nobody to play, and thus would not be able to feed their ego...lol... by having no one to play and "dominate" each week. As the newer player base learns and improves-which the Edmonton scene has done in a short time- a newer group of players will hopefully arrive and the whole process will start over.
What is interesting is each time this happens a person from the newbie base will arrive on the scene and develop quickly up to(and sometimes past) the existing pro scene. A few years ago it was Christian, most recently Will( who is the only person I have lost a singles match to in the 2 times we have had open singles night-barring Christian's movie night-lol)...who is going to be next??????
Whenever I am playing a match, or even watching one I am not involved in- I will usually take them aside after the match and give some pointers, whether it be offence/defence etc. One thing I will say is we have a group of foosers that is very willing to learn. I am not the only pro doing this- I see everyone doing it which is great.
I just wanted to bring it up so hopefully everyone knows that you can come to any of us-don't go to Roger though- too many bad habits-lol-and ask for advice on anything involved with the game.
Lastly all newbies need to learn 1 thing---------
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO PRACTICE IS YOUR 5 BAR!!!!
If you don't get the ball, it doesn't matter how awesome your rollover is- shooting 3/3 in a game does work out to 100%- but realistically will not win you many games at higher level.
"THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO PRACTICE IS YOUR 5 BAR!!!!"
wuz a 5 bar????......
Why didn't you tell me this 5 years ago???? GAH !!!
The most important thing is to make the most of your practice. If you're just knocking the ball around without your head in it you might as well just watch everybody loves Raymond because you're wasting your time.
Then try to take your practice game to the tournaments. That's where I have my problems
Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.
Because you never needed to know. 2/2 on rollers + 3 slop is enough per game. hehe
I got to move to Edmonton soon. Sounds like good fun.
"2/2 on rollers + 3 slop is enough per game. hehe"
Nathan- don't you mean 0/2 on rollers + 5 slop is enough per game?????
"The most important thing is to make the most of your practice. If you're just knocking the ball around without your head in it you might as well just watch everybody loves Raymond because you're wasting your time"
Lindsey- I completely agree with this point- even at my level(which is not that high-lol) I still show up early and practice my 5. Starting with 1)ball control 2) downhills 3) uphills 4) lanes 5) wall passes... it may only take 2 or 3 of each to get the feel and figure out what is "on" at that point.
Pretty basic- but a good starting point for most.

Hello this is Chris from the Edmonton foosball league. I am one of the young rookie whipersnappers who is seeking a partner for the upcoming BYP night. I have very limited skills but will give er my best. Will play D or forward or hold your beer for you. lol Whatever you need.
Garry, thanks for your suggestion. Darnell has agreed to be my partner for this weeks tournament. Looking forward to it!
So I guess I need a teammate who I have never played with before eh...... anyone or suggestions on who is still available.
From this post the only people teamed up that I know of are
Team Double D- Des and Darnel Team Going Down- Lindsey and Christian
it looks like everyone else is available- Roger will be available till 1 minute before registration closes- A really desperate person will HAVE to choose him then...lol
Hey Rog,
What say you and me ?
Hey everybody! Im in need of a foosball partner for this tuesdays BYP. I have played foos with Mike, Roger, Sam, Lindsey, Garry, Will, and Ben in our tuesday league nights. Chris, you interested? It's always good to put together two rookie whippersnappers together...maybe we could steal a game or two?

Simon I've already played with Desmond, Chris & Blair. My plan was to wait for the first to ask.
Hey Tobin, Count me in bro.
So Roger, I am you first?
If I just show up, what are the chances of finding a partner at Gateway? Back in the day I played in the Stryker league that Shane put on. So anyone need a (rookie) partner?
Even if you don't have a partner beforehand show up- I would probably say half the regular players already have partners- the other half will pair up at the registration.
Simon, We will beat the competition, crush the infidels, mop the floor with any fool who wishes to step-up to the table,We can be the team to take it all.
The only way you will win is if I forfeit again. <3
Any good movies that night??? lol
Hey Alberts. Come out for sure, we will find you a partner. Its more like a "partner up when you get there" than it is a BYP. The term just means you get to choose who you play with instead of having it randomly selected for you.
"Any good movies that night??? lol"
Sorry Garry, Transformers 3 isn't out yet.
I just read that earlier jab from Garry... yuck yuck yuck!
Hows the scene been going out west? I miss those tuesday nights dammnit!
Plus, it seems Im slowly sliding down the rankings... might have to make a visit one of these days if i get some off time from work.
