In other news...

Once the original tournament was down to the final 3 teams we started another random DYP. I drew Lindsay which was sweet, it was the first time we have played together. Tobin and Blair played together, and Tobin was a freaking machine. Honestly, everyone that saw you play that game would have thought you were a Pro Master. The first 3 posessions he had were perfect passes, then perfect shots. 3-0 in no time.

Lindsay and I played Rick and Chris in the final, and when the game was starting I heard Garry say "hey lindsay maybe you can score from your 3 bar this game."

I don't know if Garry was just trying to fire Lindsay up, but it worked if he was. Lindsay shot 6 for 8 (Race to 7) and I scored one from the back. As a sidenote, Lindsay also hit a push side roller so hard it partially flattened one of the balls. The two games we played against Rick and Chris were both great, 7-6 both times.

Christian is in first again for points.

"Christian is in first again for points. "

More importantly, I am now officially in 4th!

hey Will, one question. Why was there only a $5.00 difference between 1st and 2nd? It was alot of work for the extra $2.50

"As a sidenote, Lindsay also hit a push side roller so hard it partially flattened one of the balls."

That's funny.

One night of foosball we had the ball in play go back up into the drop hole and stay there......twice...in the same night.

It's on now, kids. On.

Will did some incredible shooting from the 2 bar in the first match against Rick and Chris scoring SIX of the seven goals from his 2 bar. I was basically watching the show at that point.

The way we went back and forth in the last match was amazing. At one point we were actually cheering for our opponents we were having so much fun. I was still excited driving to work the next day. It should be like that every time.

"I don't know if Garry was just trying to fire Lindsay up, but it worked if he was."

He was definitely trying something but I wouldn't exactly call it firing up

Just wanted to say that this weeks tournament was a lot of fun! I think that everyone is improving at a great pace and it's starting to make for some interesting games not only to play in, but to be a spectator as well! Thanks for the compliment Will! But I have a long way to go...I might have scored 3 in a row but you guys came away with the win. Cheers Everybody!

"He was definitely trying something but I wouldn't exactly call it firing up"

I was just stating the obvious- in the prior game to seven I don't believe he scored from his three bar- and you guys won!

" Lindsay also hit a push side roller"

Come on...seriously??? lol

He might score 2 goals a game now!

Your exact words were "are you going to score from your three bar this game?".

How is asking a question stating anything?

Author: ALBERTs Reply #9 Posted: Jul 16 2009 8:27PM

Agreed with Tobin, good times, good tourney. Gotta say thanks to Simon for giving me pointers and advice throughout. Thanks Simon.

Tobin, you were definitely playing great. You're reaching the stage in your game that's the toughest... the mental game. It's also the most rewarding once you start to get a handle on it. Or so I have been told

"How is asking a question stating anything?"

It is called a RHETORICAL QUESTION!!!

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply (ex: "Why me, Lord?")[1] Rhetorical questions encourage the listener to reflect on what the implied answer to the question must be. When a speaker states, "How much longer must our people endure this injustice?", no formal answer is expected. Rather, it is a device used by the speaker to assert or deny something.

Next week's lesson... PARAPHRASING!!!

I thought this weeks lesson was cut and paste!

Garry - Everyone knows that you are the Edmoton pro. I doubt that any of the players at our weekly tournament wouldn't credit a ton of what they have learned to you; either directly or indirectly. I for one have learned probably more from your advice than any other person(I should give a shout out to Christian here as well) give Lindsay a break man, he did play great and has been working super hard on improving his game. Just be happy that he played great instead of trying to get under his skin. I know you guys are doing this all out of good fun but at the same time...

I know i am not a mediator in any sense but Lindsay... Garry isn't intentionally trying to pick on you or anything, he does like to take cheap shots at everyone(and its pretty fun sometimes), but you should use it like you did this week to inspire you to shoot a lights out game. The only difference between your 3 bar and your 5 bar is your self confidence. You can shoot perfectly to both sides all the time as long as you know you can, i have seen it too many times to not be true.

Sorry guys i'm not trying to be the tournament director and step in or anything, I just really like both of you and don't like to see things get out of hand.

Author: Will Reply #16 Posted: Jul 17 2009 1:55AM

Simon - Sorry about the $$$ difference between 1st and 2nd. Usually it is a bigger difference. This week I didn't make the decision on the payouts, but that is irrelivant because I agreed with them. As a defence a lot of the 2nd place payout was in Gateway Dollars, which probably aren't as good as cash to most players.

We make a point of writing down what the payouts will be on the chart at the beginning of the tournament. Feel free to challenge the decision before matches have been played, but once the tournament is over it is hard for me to change the payouts that have already been written on the charts.

Chad and Myself are the Co-Tourament Directors, we have decided to accept Garry's advice on many points because we feel he does have a lot of knowledge about things that we might not know about...

I would just like to re-apologize for the fact that you only made $2.50 more than 2nd place contestants. Congratulations on winning, I hope to see you come out more.

All in good fun- and not meant to be insulting-just some ribbing that was never meant to be personal.

Sorry if you took it that way Lindsey.

BTW- I take pot shots at most everyone who "has game" so take that as a back sided compliment.

Author: .Garry Reply #18 Posted: Jul 17 2009 2:11AM

The payouts were done by Me- with Chad observing- the Gateway $ made it closer in "total" then the true cash payouts. It was actually $50/$30+15/$10+10- I guess I should have done $50+10/$30+5/$10+10. Sorry, but it was a weird total "money" that I divided up- my fault!

Hey Will, No worries. I just thought it was kinda funny.

Can you use Gateway Dollars to enter the DYP ?

Can you use Gateway Dollars to enter the DYP ?

Hey Simon, I tried the week before and Will gave me one of those looks. So I think the answer is no ;)

I enjoyed last week everyone. Thanks Christian for being an awesome partner. I think we did well and came back on a few games when we were down to get to the final table. I am learning more and more everytime I come. I appreciate all of the advice from the pros. Thanks again.
