Topic: Canadian Nationals $15,000

Author: Will Original Message Posted: Aug 26 2009 5:27PM

The Canadian Nationals is being held in Edmonton AB on Oct 2-4th. The format is different from what is normally used in tournaments. Instead of the standard double elimination for open, pro, semi, rookie in both singles and doubles we are only having two events. Open and Beginner. You can pick which one you play in but realistically anyone who travels will be in the open event - also all the payouts are in the Open event.

In Open Doubles and Open Singles there is a group stage followed by double eliminaiton. Read the flier for more info but I'll post a little info about it now.
Example:
If there are 42 teams in Open Doubles, there will be 7 groups - 6 teams in each group.
Each group would consist of something like:
1 PM team
1 Pro team
2 Semi Pro teams
2 Rookie teams
Each team will play each other team in there group, at the end of the group stage the top 3 teams move into one double elimination bracket, and the 3 bottom teams move into another doulbe elimination bracket. There is NO CROSSOVER if you are in the lower bracket(however you would have had to lose at least 3 times to be knocked out by this stage).
The first place team from group A plays the 2nd place team from Group B, the two 2nd place teams play eachother - so on and so forth. Double elimination bracket from this point on just like a normal tournament. The same thing with 4th and 6th playing eachother and 5th.

The Payouts for this event are WICKED. We have $5000 added from sponsors, and this as far as I can tell is one of the biggest added amounts into a payout. In open doubles we pay out to 5/6, and on top of that there are payouts to the top 3 pro, semi pro, and rookie teams. If a team from any of those ranks finishes in the money in open and wins highest whatever rank they only get to keep one payout, whichever is bigger. The other payout they win is pushed to another player of there rank. This means no sandbaging rookies or semi's. If you win semi and come in 3rd in open then you get to keep the open money and essentially it is a given that your not a true semipro if you can place that high.

This give us a lot of benefits at the event. No conflicts, no sandbaggers, huge payouts all in one event, lots of games played for everyone, no two and outs, we have a schedule that is handed out upon registration so you know when your games will be for the next two days, etc this list goes on and on.

Seriously consider coming to this tournament if you can - it is going to be a great tournament. Please ask me any questions if you have any! See the flier at www.foosball.com/schedule or tablesoccerca.ning.com or email me at will_stranks@hotmail.com and I will send it to you.

I know I had a similar post earlier but I wanted to bump it to the top and it was over 1 month old so I had to start a new thread.

Oohhhhh fancy. I wonder if the choice to go with Table Soccer over Foosball was a tough one...
