That was amazing wasn't it?

I was in Calagary for '88 but this was even more magical. The British media were trying to paint this as the "glitch games" and the Luge accident was really tragic but overall those things were thankfully overshadowed by the positive stories - the athletes, the performances, the drama, the medal results.
In hockey, Team Canada was defintely not the most consistent team and the players they picked for the team couldn't protect a lead to save their life but when they were on they were defintely the best team. What they did to Russia was totally amazing. It lacked any tension but I guess we got that in the semis and finals! Ha ha.
Even the closing ceremony was humorous and really well done.
CANADA ROCKS!!!
Sorry Soichi, but no way in the world you can touch this.
Fred
PS Plus Korean speed skaters getting disqualified and uttering death threats to referees. Who would have ever thought that would happen? Ha ha!

Thank the great cod in the sea that this fiasco is now over. I'm glad to have boring, stodgy, no fun Vancouver back.

We were at that Short Track event where the DQ happened. It was a very entertaining evening, with lots of drama at the end.
The top three finishing girls’ teams were already holding flags of their countries and doing victory laps when it became apparent the ref was reviewing tape of the race. After they announced the DQ there was bedlam on the ice & in the stands. In attendance, there were many Koreans fans that were obviously disappointed, plus lots of American fans surprised to earn a medal (they were waaayyy back in the race).
I’ll never forget how after explaining his decision to the emotional Korean coach, the ref made a fast b-line for the rink’s exit. It was very reminiscent of soccer officials quickly leaving the field of play after a controversial result (presumably skipping the dressing room for an awaiting car).
Also, shortly after that happened, one of the Chinese skaters quickly left the ice for medical attention while holding her chin. A flurry of blue-jacketed volunteers followed her. I wasn’t too sure what had happened to cause the injury; at first I thought I might have missed an altercation (catfight??). Then I remembered that the Chinese team had all jumped as a group onto the padding in order to hug their coach, and their feet & skate-blades were flying everywhere at that point. A skate-blade turned out to be the culprit.
Any ways…are you still in town Fred? Are you gonna show for one eve at Soho before you go?
