Awe, thanks Fred. I was kinda afraid thinking the "..." was an invitation to fill in the blank. :p You are too sweet.
And John John John, I'm sure you said 50 just so I would show up to SoHo to slap ya around a lil bit. Heheh..on the table of course. ;)
Dave, you know you'll always be my favorite a**hole. Thanks, buddy.

Dave,
More than one way to beat the swear filter
It's about time you responded,Simon.I would have preferred you settle the old fashioned way,the foosball way:money match. One of Edmonton's top player's(Simon) vs. the Am in the proam(The Dubious One).
Haha thats sweet Simon!!
You're still a chump though. Must have felt good!
Did someone say money matches?!! lol
BRB sorry Im polishing my World Championship Trophy, making space for my new table, and practicing wearing my ProAm Championship Jacket...
lol.
But i have to admit that was sweet.
Lesson. I hope you can take the trash talk as much as you do the trash talking.
All in Fun
Dave.
Seriously?!!O.K. I'll play this game.2 worldchampionship titles and 1 2nd place finish(semi-pro singles),2 U.S. semi-pro national championship titles,and a 13th place finish at worlds in open singles--before the age of 19.
Joey listing your credentials isn't going to change anything, you will still be the underdog in this one.
Underdog compared to who?
He doesn't get it...
Wow that's really good of you Joey. Ive seen your game its really strong. And you have good intensity. Out of the 112 players that were in the very recent ProAM, there would only probably be 20-30 guys that have a stronger game than you. But i'd have to say your game would be better than the other 82 players there.
Btw, how was your BIRTHDAY MOYA?!!! lol. I think this thread has been hijacked haha
Bring your money to the edmonton tourney,Ahn.
Pretty much anyone... I was referring to Dave but more just because you are perennially an underdog.
What I say?? Bring my money?
Do you realize how good all these pro's are down in the states? FOr you to be better than half of them says a lot about you and canadian foosball don't you think?
Until Canadian players not only aspire to but actually attain higher objectives(i.e.consistent top 3 finishes in open events at the worlds, than we truly do not have any legitimate claim on being foosballers of any note.
Well, I will be that person to aspire to be that top3 guy consistently, as many others in Canada will I am sure. I believe I am as other Canadians are, on the right track as we speak. Go to the World Cup page, you'll see a few names.
Eric Dunn just beat the worlds best again. Holla!!
That depends on how fly you are... If you are average fly then you probably can't race his pull. However if you are super fly then you probably can.
Also I can think of at least 5 or 6 Canadians that have legitimate chances of finishing in the top 3 in Open events within the next 5 years.
>Also I can think of at least 5 or 6 Canadians that have legitimate chances of finishing in the top 3 in Open events within the next 5 years.
Wow, Will, not to be a total pessimist, but I would like to know if that's a justa gut feeling kinda thing and if not, how did you come to that "legitimate" possiblity? I'm assuming not from any sort of prognostication.
I'm not being a hater at all, but..well..just wondering how you came to that conclusion?
*hugs*
Maybe it has something to do with canadians Placing higher and higher all the time. Just a guess. I'm not a rocket scientist. Are canadians placing higher and higher all the time?
I wouldn't say so. Over the last 20 years, I think the best that Canadians have achieveed in OD or OS was around 5th, maybe 7th (for a major)? In those two events, we have never really seemed to break into the very top/elite category. Although I do think its possible with some of the guys that are on tour right now, but one needs to put in enough tournaments to incrase that chance of having that break-out tournament. No Canadian currently tours enough for that to happen.
yea pepper's right.. the highest i've finished in 5th (playing with Adrian Z), a couple of 7ths with Jeep.
Championship Singles i finished 5th once.
I think that Mario and Kane have finished very high (maybe even 2nd) at some of Mary's major tournaments.
Mario and I finished 2nd at the ITSF World Championships - that's gotta count for something!! B-)
I hope it's possible, as it's one of my goals right now - just need the right opponents (ie no Atha or Tony), and a few key breaks - or the right partners and i'm pretty sure i can get there.
If I just got 1 rag against Todd at worlds i would of taken 7th at least ( i was told i had him 4-1 in the 3rd) - Joe Rhodes was next, i normally 3 strait him - so ya never know.
We have players right now such as Eric, Mario A, and Kane that have placed high in majors.
Mario A last year, and Eric this year, beat Fredrico - arguably the best player in the world. If Eric can beat Rico, and maybe get a nice path to the Kingseat game, that is a guaranteed top 3.
Mario I has been increasingly placing higher and higher every tournament he goes to. He just finished 5th at Texas State, including beating Billy Pappas another multi-time recent World Champion. I figure that within 5 years just between those 4 players we have a solid shot at a top 3 finish in one event.
Also players like Dom and Julien, Dave Ahn, Matt Botros, Eric Goodman, Christian Dunn, and myself just to name a few. These are all "up and coming" players that place better and better every tournament essentially.
Keep up the touring, and Jeff is right about that, someone or several will need to hit many tournaments. If someone does, kind of like Mario I has been recently, then we will have players breaking into that elite group.
>Wow, Will, not to be a total pessimist, but I would like to know if that's a justa gut feeling kinda thing and if not, how did you come to that "legitimate" possiblity? I'm assuming not from any sort of prognostication.
Too late it's already been done.
Moya won open mixed playing forward. I can't remember if it was at the worlds or the HOFC but it was at a major. So we already have a Canadian that won an open event.
Moya, how could you forget one of your best victories. I remember watching. You were pretty happy!
Yes that is a true accomplishment, and one that I have watched on insidefoos a couple times. Moya you played perfect foosball...
You guys have some problems reading, I put down OS and OD, never mentioned Mixed.
I don't realistically see any of those players mentioned making it to the top 3, but it would be nice to be proved wrong. I think Mario and Eric have the technical skills to do it, but nobody is moving Rob, Ryan, Fred, Billy and Spree from the top anytime soon. You fail to realize that these guys are younger then those mentioned above.
Until you play Mario or Papz in an Open match, and realize how hard they crush the ball in person, you will never understand how far you really have to go.
>You guys have some problems reading, I put down OS and OD, never mentioned Mixed.
Who said we were reponding to you

Happy birthday baby! Btw nice hijacked thread
Ianuzzi is young, and just beat Billy on Tornado in an Open event.
Even so, when you look at Billy Tony Ryan Rico Rob - they really are in a class of their own. I wouldn't even have said Ryan was in that group until about January when he won his first world title.
Mixed was a huge accomplishment of a major goal that I really thought was almost too high.
The teams I had to play were.. some fairly good semi pro (pretty close match) Mike Philbrook and Monica Steagal (we killed them) Nathan Winters and Stayce Fowler (meet ball) Terry Moore and Tommie Bagley (pretty even) Steve Beine and Christina Fuchs (killed them in the 3rd) Fred and Cindy for winners (don't remember how that went) Fred and Cindy in the finals (went second set, 2 games fairly handily)
(Thanks for your compliment Will, but it wasn't perfect foos by me by any stretch. Cindy didn't play well and I scored well. I barely kept up on the five and pretty sure Fred had more shots than I, but Garrett was a freakin super star. He played out of his head great. That was the difference.)
And yes, OM is different than OD or OS.
What was trying to say is that no one has really come all that close in the last, oh saaaay the 20 years that I've been playing. Not saying that it can't or won't be done, but that it's really not that much of a legitimate possibility or at least not as much as maybe you're thinking.
I've played them lots..all of them including Horton and Cartwright and so on. I've had my few wins over each of them at some time or another, but it is soooooo incredibly tough to put all those wins together in one tourney. Consistancy is absolutely critical. One mistake, misspass or shot can and will result in a loss. I remember playing games and made one bad pass and it costing me the whole match.
Anyhow, just knowing the difficulty level, I just don't agree with you. No offense to any one player at all. I just know from first hand experience how difficult putting all those wins together is to get a top 3 placing.
Thanks, Rob. :) Heheh, pretty hard to put a derailed train back on the tracks. :p
And Dave, my b day weekend was freakin AWESOME!!!
Thanks again guys. :)
You would know better than me for sure, having been there already. I have only played 2 games total against all of the previously mentioned "top tier" players - and you know that level of play clearly.
I just want to be positive because when I believe in myself (and other people in themselves) it makes me a better player. I know it wont be easy, and maybe the word "legitimate" was incorrectly used. I should say all those players could with years of practice and effort reach a very high level. I know how far I myself have come and a lot of other players in Canada are currently trying hard to improve their games also. When players push themselves it helps us all as a player base.
To me, when I hear all these assumptions, they just seem so out of left field. Until you spend a lot of time at major tournaments, and know half of what is really going on, then everything just comes across as insanity(to me).
There are so many guys out there with great games that can beat Masters here and there, but none are dominating the field enough that I think its possible to win it all. Play funzy with Ryan Moore or Billy, and you want to quit foosball because you will never be that good, and that's how good you have to be to win it all in Open. You have to make guys quit.
Anyways, I never mentioned mixed because Moya has already achieved the highest one can achieve. Same goes for WS and WD.
>I just want to be positive because when I believe in myself (and other people in themselves) it makes me a better player.
Ooooooh, is that how that works?? I'm jking, but that's not the way it was in my world of foos. Try being a rookie girl fighting her way to get even a little foos time on the table with any of the top players. Louis Cartwright used to be such an a**hole. When they were playing $5 games he'd flick my quarter off the table. Course I was stubborn, but as soon as my turn came up, they'd all walk away and go over to another table. Louis even said he'd retire if he lost to a girl. Funny thing tho..he revoked it just before Brennan (semi pro) and I put him and Fernando to the losers side, (stole Fern's pass on 4-4, passed through and killed a posted dead bar long on Louis. It was awesome!! They were stunned..lol) then they came back and won the tourney.
Saying,
"I should say all those players could with years of practice and effort reach a very high level"
is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different than saying...
"I can think of at least 5 or 6 Canadians that have legitimate chances of finishing in the top 3 in Open events within the next 5 years."
Anyhow, I get what you're saying. I'm all for being positive and supporting players from your area or Country or whatever. Comradery is one of the best things about sports. I just thought that your initial statement was a lil naive sounding and I guess I found it a tad condescending when people have been practicing, travelling and investing for many years to reach that goal. It is dramatically more difficult than you could imagine.
Not trying to burst any bubbles, just keepin it real.
Oh and btw..I wasn't talking about myself. My goal was for OD and I mainly wanted to finish higher than my seed, which was way overinflated due to women's points being included in our points. My other one was to finish in the top 10 and think I did that a few times at Majors. My only one after that was to finish in the top 5 in OD and did that twice, but Mary's tourneys.
One of the reasons I say it's so tough is because it's really hard to do it without a seed, which is earned over years. I was fortunate in the past to have a good seed because they counted women's points. I think I was ranked in the top 20 overall, which I certainly wouldn't have placed my actual skill level at.
I don't think anyone from Canada (again no offense) is really close enough to get to a top 3 at a Major in the next 5 years. It's not impossible, but to do it where all the top Pro Masters are all at the same event would be a ridiculous achievement.
Go get it, boyZzzzz!!!! :)
I think it's entirely possible, and not naive at all.
I've played these elite players (billy, tony, ryan, rico, etc) enough now, where the awe factor, or the thought that they're 'on a different level so are untouchable' is gone. As i'm pretty sure Mario and Kane also have the same feeling.
Yes, those elite players can do amazing things, that most of us only dream of doing, but - and this is a big but - they can't make the ball go through your men - so if you are in control of where you place your men (and last time i check our hands our connected to our brains), you have the chance of blocking any shot / pass of theirs. It does not matter how fast they are, or how hard they hit the ball, if you're man is solidly in the way, they can't score / pass.
And even though they're awesome players, they cannot simply see every hole and immediately choose the right one, and then execute 100% - all before you can move your man.. so every player must read - and wait, and then shoot when they think their hole is open - so if you're not obvious, or repetitive with your movements, you can block anyone.
I used to think the best players can rip a hole as soon as it opened up without having to read it opening up first. I was talking with Tony S one day about how our rollovers where hitting the cross bar on the push side, and i told tony that if i reacted to movement and shot, it didn't hit the cross bar, so i gave tony a D - just sitting on the push, and told him to shoot the push as soon as i moved off of it (varying my timing of course), and we did this about 20 times, and almost every time, it took him almost a second to shoot that push side after i moved off of it - where before that i assumed he'd be able to rip it the instant i moved off of it. Rico is another example of this.
In order for one to be able to break that top 3 i'd think the following things need to be in place: 1. shots and passes cannot be race-able, and cannot have tells or timing habits. 2. must be able to execute under pressure - the entire match - cannot have any mental lapses - (this is where I currently fail). 3. must be in control of where you place your men on defense at all times. cannot fall for fakes, or hitches, or attempt to race. 4. must be able to read the opponents tells / timing habits or have enough experience from previous times they've played that opponent. 5. must believe in themselves enough to think they can beat anyone if they execute on the above 4 points.
It also depends on what we define as a major. If its any event over $30,000 then Mario and Kane have already broken the top 3 both in doubles, and Kane in Singles.
If we're talking about just the HOFC and World's then yes, no one has broken the top 3 in OS or OD YET. I think as Canadian's we play a smarter game than the average player, and that's a huge advantage if you're able to use that advantage and obtain the 5 points above.
So don't believe those naysayers - even if they've been there and you haven't, maybe they've just run into a plateau with their own game and they can't see a way out - and i'd guess it would be a failing on one of those 5 points above.
Feel free to bring my money too.
That's not how Tony reads a hole, so he would never really be able to shoot that way that well, same with Rico, their shots are not geared that way at all. I would never give that D to pappas cause he would kill it every time.
As for point number 5, that comes only, imo, from winning a lot of events on tour. Every guy in the top, has won a substantial amount of events that they walk into every tournament with enough established confidence, that they know they will reach the top 3 or 5, if not win it all. Until a Canadian starts going to a lot of tour events, they will never reach that status. Moya did in the past, as did Mario and Kane for a while as well, and it paid off in spades.

"That's not how Tony reads a hole"
Why are you calling Eric an "a hole"

sorry, I'm just really board at work today
