It's great to see our great sport reaching every corner of the globe, even if it is one of the chief sponsors of international terrorism.
Who knows, maybe the taliban will be playing foos in Afghanistan sometime soon too.Of course, women will not be permitted to play unless they are accompanied by a male relative.

Foosball the solution to world peace maybe? The Iranian players have proven themselves to be really good at the World Cup this year with one guy finishing top 8 in Man's Singles. Very discplined and focused. The government there plans to plant foosball in 30+ provinces and 500 cities in the near future. Some cities in China are trying to do the same in terms of gorvernment-hosted/sponsored fast foosball movements and tournaments. To the officials, it is a political intention. It is up to us to ride with them to promote the professional standards of the game.

During the 70's,there was 'ping pong diplomacy',but I do not anticipate a similar breakthrough for foos. Not because of our game, which is superior to all others.
The issues and problems are myriad. This game,on a serious note, which is rare on these boards,is not going to bridge the divide between civilizations. At least not the west and the middle east.I am fully aware of the tournaments that have been held in Dubai and the like. And that's great. But will there be a marked difference in international relations?Probably not.
In sum,FireballGuy,while I applaud your efforts,I think the benefits may be both short lived and ephemeral. The obstacles and enmity between our cultures are simply too much to overcome. The school of Realpolitik says this will never come about. My apologies for being so serious but this is a subject that's very serious. As a side note,I'm sure you're aware of the Usama Bin Laden is Dead Charity Tournament that was recently held in the U.S.
P.S.That would spectacular if foos could be responsible for a detente between the west and the middle east!!

I have no high expectations for bridging the west with and the middle east with foosball. I do see that foos in some Asian countries has taken a great leap forward with government actively involved. Government can be a pain and negtive force if they only want to achieve political aims, as seen in China. But the capital and moblization of the society for such a new game/sport can be quite powerful. We will see.
